Hello @languagelady I´m an English Teacher in a Spanish speaking country. I want to thank you for this great recommendation which makes the usage of the English language more accesible and easier to understand (use) by applying as a teacher these apps for my students.
This is absolutely a great and very informative resource! Thank you so much. Do you have references that support the recommended accommodations, especially the second accomodation, having the test read aloud? Is there research and/or references that you know of on accommodating beginner ELLs, specifically around reading test directions and passages in exams out loud to beginner ELLs? Thank you!
Hello and thank you so much for this video. This will be my first year as a newly graduated TESOL teacher. I will be working in a middle school. As of yet, I have no information on what classes I will be teaching. As I listen to your video, I am not even sure how I will get to engage with my students. This experience is so new and so intimidating.
Although I don't plan to become an ESL teacher, I'm training to become a school psychologist. I really appreciate videos like this that give me a whole new appreciation for the many educators I'll be working with in the school. I hope all is well!
I want to teach via internet. How do I prevent cheating? The fourth week of every month I want to give an exam both with questions and answers as well as an essay. How do I prevent them from copying and pasting or having a friend do it for them or searching for the answers during the test?
Very good video. I also taught in such a school for two years and initially actually found it quite stimulating but then of course in time you are exposed to high levels of chaotic dysfunction which is not always possible to deal with with any amount of equanimity. So I switched to teaching GED at Job Corps which was a good deal easier with the older students.
HI, where on the ACCESS website can I find the grade level clusters by ELP standard and Language Domain? you showed examples towards the end of the video around minute 7.50. I would appreciate this help.
Thank you some much❤ I have been studying English as my second language for over a decade. Recently,I started to tutor in ESL . And I was terrified by how inexperienced I as a teacher. I am from Georgia and I am preparing to take my English Teacher License. Please wish me luck 😁😁

I teach inner city high school. It is hard! I grew up inner city myself, but never allowed myself to get sucked in by the negativity, the fear, and the violence. My home was always safe and bounty was plentiful. It has been a journey for me to understand why my students don’t think the same way. I had to learn to understand that many don’t have 2 parents. Many don’t have someone at home who taught them spelling or basic math. Many don’t even have a parent who is mentally well! Some are homeless. It’s insane to expect the same out of them that you would a child from a good environment. Yet we must. Kids will always rise to the occasion because they don’t know what is proper. So keep your standards high. Keep your discipline high. And watch those kids go farther in life because you taught them the right way.
Hi Dr. Sandra Quinones, My name is Maria De Andrade, thank you for your tips and very explicit video! Hope to be able to learn a lot more from you videos.
Hello I am from EL Salvador..and I am trying to start adequating planning in my school, in your experience what should a LP should incluye en general, for an English Language learner, I see you talk about content though my teaching focuses only on the language adquisition...am i behind New trends?
Hello! It's great to connect with someone from El Salvador who is passionate about English language teaching. When planning lessons for English Language Learners (ELLs), it's crucial to focus on language acquisition. While content is important, language skills are at the core of effective communication. In your lesson plans, consider incorporating activities that emphasize the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Tailor your lessons to provide ample opportunities for language practice and interaction. Also, integrate cultural elements to make the language learning experience more engaging. Stay current with new trends by exploring teaching methodologies that prioritize language acquisition. Strategies like communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and immersive language experiences can be beneficial for ELLs. Remember, every learner is unique, so adapt your lesson plans based on the specific needs and proficiency levels of your students. Feel free to explore technology tools and resources that support language acquisition as well. If you have any specific questions or need more guidance on adapting your lesson plans, I'm here to help! Best of luck with your teaching journey in promoting English language acquisition
I definitely will. I apologize for not uploading. I have been very busy with work. Keep posted on more videos soon. Thank you for watching and for your ideas. Much appreciated!
Hello Dr. Hemp Hill! I'm so glad to find you because I'm a regular teacher from PR (39 years teaching in H.S.) and actually I'm new as an ELL tutor for PK, K, 1, & 2 graders at Oklahoma. My concern is with the pre-K students. What should be my first objective with them ? Colors, numbers, animals, body parts, environment, etc...?
If you have a curriculum map, go by what it states there as the first topic you must cover. If you do not have that, I would recommend starting with letters first. I hope this helps. 😀
I like your TiK Tok idea but I teach ESL to individual teen students online. Do you have any suggestions for writing exercises for a teenager at B1 level?
