What is the difference between a substance abuse therapist and a substance abuse counselor? I’m in my first year of getting my BA in psychology with minor in substance abuse.. I plan on getting my masters afterwards

It depends on the state. In Illinois sometimes the term therapist is used for clinicians who have their Masters & counselors are for individuals who can practice with their bachelors. Oftentimes it’s used interchangeably

Do you feel like you’re making a difference ?? I myself had issues with alcohol and I want to help others o already have a BA in psychology but I don’t really use it but I see that sometimes jobs feel like just jobs and not like real help ?

Sometimes it's hard to feel like I'm making a difference but my patients tend to tell me otherwise. Even if they do relapse I know we both are doing the best we can so I give myself grace.
