Luke Johnston not only comes from a Pontiac family, he comes from the Summit Racing family too-because his dad Paul, is our Customer Service Supervisor. Turns out, that’s a good combination, because the duo has transformed a classic 1962 Pontiac Catalina into a tire-shredding dragster, with a rip snortin’ Pontiac 428 engine under its hood. And they did it all themselves.
We caught up with the Johnston father/son team during Summit Racing’s annual employee track day at Summit Motorsports Park. They gave us a ton good info on the car but, perhaps more importantly, they told us about the learning and bonding experiences they’ve had during the build process.
Whether you like fire-breathing Pontiacs or a good father-son bonding story, you’ll want to check out this video-it’s just another example of how Summit Racing is Powered By Enthusiasts.

I absolutely love this!!! I bought a 1962 Catalina 2 years ago as a Father son Project. And we also bought a 428 to drop in it. And yes, we are from Ohio too!!! Get goosebumps watching this! Love this!!! Love the Poncho!

I only see one thing that is missing , the Ford dump truck hood scoop that had a Pontiac part number .

Dad's right. The trades are dying. Good to see some of the youths still have ambition. Congrats.

Thats a nice ‘62 Poncho. Like the idea of the 428 as well since 421’s gotta be hard to scrounge up. Those ‘61’s are real nice as well.
