We have finished building our home, now we are working on some other projects around our homestead: trimming and removing mesquite trees, mowing, gray water leach field, planting trees, installing a weather station and pull-up bar.

I think a digging bar would be a good tool to use on the stumps. Yard cleans up nice. Multiple items checked off TO-DO list. Thanks for sharing

Another way to remove you not wanted trees is to hook a sliding hook chain around the base of the tree, then pull it out with your truck, cut the stubborn roots with your sawzall

Re: TREE PLANTING- I've heard that it's best to fill the holes back in with native soil, and not special soil. because as the roots grow to the edge of that zone they, like all life forms, want to conserve energy, so instead of pushing into the more compacted, less nutritious surrounding soil they may circle back into the top soil which in the long run creates a weaker root system. Using the wood chips as mulch is great as it creates a good environment all the way around the tree. And if the tree isn't doing well you can just fertilize it. On a related note I've heard it's good to dig a square hole with nice tight corners instead of a circle hole with sloped edges, once again to discourage roots from circling near the base.

Comfortable temps at night. Be blessed the soil was not rock! The sycamore is nice but pull apart the rootball's for a quicker recovery and growth. Thanks for sharing!❤

I grew up in a similar climate in South Africa. The house we moved into when i turned 12 had no garden. My mom took it as a challenge, since their first house was the same, and we left it with a lush garden 11 years later (neighouing city with milder climate and better soil than the new place). Everything we planted in the first year died within a season! The aid soil combined with termites was a killer, only the mesquite type tes survived) Neighbors had figured out the formula: dig a 2-3 ft cubic square hole, fill with water and mix in10 year ant poison, let it soak in. Mix fertilizer and compost with original sand, but first place a vertical 2.5" pipe to bottom of hole, protruding 6-8". Back-fill adding the shrub/tree at the top. Water in the pipe every alternate day, then less frequently, following the season. When we sold the property 6 years later we almost had a jungle! Also, was the buffest nerd in school fom all the digging and building😂

Thanks for sharing, very interesting! We have found that leaf cutter ants are our worst enemy. They will strip a tree in a couple of days, so we have to keep an eye out for them. We also have to watch out for groundhogs, they ate all of the roots on our plum tree. We stuck it in sand, and amazingly the roots grew back! Now we plant everything in chicken wire cages. Hopefully that helps! Lots of challenges in the desert, but we are pretty determined too! 🌞🏜️

Ooo, love the clothes line. You could even build a small counter height platform around the loading post if that would help load and unload.

We'll see how it does. It will probably take some time for the ground to get saturated enough for the tree to get any water from it. The soil here drains pretty fast, so we are watering the tree for now. Thanks for watching!

You can easily grow mimosa from seeds you find on the ground. But the best ones are from dried shells still hanging on the trees. You'll need to snip their buts and soak them immediately after picking.

You might try getting a good brush killer. Just spray it on the live root and let it dry. Then just cover it up. I have noticed when doing this. It doesn’t even kill the grass around the tree. But the tree never come back. Later

What I have done with trees that like to come back is to drill a hole down the middle of the stump and fill it with round up, gasoline or diesel. It's such a small amount that it won't hurt anything but it will do the stump in.

We do, we recently discovered that a gopher ate all of the roots on our 2 year old plum tree. I hear they especially like fruit trees, so we plan to put chicken wire underground around them. I hope these trees grow big and fast! That's a lot of snow! Looks like more storms are coming, stay warm and safe! Thanks, you too!

It's best to plant in fall or winter. They go into shock but recover in spring.
@RedandAprilOff-Grid
@RedandAprilOff-Grid Год назад
Yes, I think it works pretty well in our climate, but there is still some danger of hard freezes causing some damage to newly planted trees.

Welcome back to your channel. It’s good seeing you you back in action. Red, considering all of your yard work I cannot see you needing the shed gym. I was nice seeing your interaction with your grand dog and granddaughter. Trusting that you and your kids are doing well. Looking forward to seeing the sycamore and other tree prospering in your yard. Wishing you and April a blessed spring season filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Greetings from NE Ohio. Peace

You might not need that work out station if you keep digging up mesquites. I was watching a Geoff Lawton video recently where he suggested persistent chopping and dropping as a solution for dealing with persistent trees.
