💯 My Gen Z daughter is so envious I saw so many great bands from 1984- present. Saw The Frames and Damien Rice in 2003, 8 mos pregnant with the kiddo! No wonder she loves my music. 😍 #musicismytimemachine
I lived the best of both worlds, splitting my growing-up years evenly between the 1970 and 1980s. The best music, best movies, and best TV. I feel so sorry for today's kids, with poor substitutes for all that, i.e. cell phones constantly in their hands and (anti)social media.
I was 15 in 1981 I can't tell you how amazing it was no mobiles no Internet peace and happiness..and amazing music and respect for each other o wish I was back there the world is so crap now
As a 19 year old kid, I'm jealous of all of you adults who grew up in the 80s 😭😭 Yes, we have phones and social medias but what's the point when all I do is searching for 80s stuff??
You should have been in my classes where every history or geography lesson included at least one musical interlude featuring some great "old" music! And if things became too stressed, we sat back and relaxed with music....
@@kristenfairman5483 Well I will still think that the 80s the best I know we got better things but I just wanna live the time when vinyl records was the norm, record tv programs to a VHS tape was the norm 😭
@@tes-uu9sf You never give your heart to a stranger. Or tell your secrets to a friend. You'll put your heart in mortal danger. They all desert you in the end. The more you live, the more you love. Or so they say: The more you love, the more you go away. They say that nothing last forever. And even true love turns to pain. Don't ever trust your heart to a stranger. Don't wanna do this again. The more you live, the more you love. Or so they say: The more you love, the more you go away... The more you live, the more you love. Or so they say: The more you love, the more you go away.
I was 20 when this song came out and lived my best years in the 80,s with all the best of new wave. I was so blessed with great times ,great friends, and great music.
I can totally relate to what you are saying...same here I was 19yr old..and yes blessed with great times, friends and great music and still am...love from Ireland Chris!!!
@@Argentx1965 my places were fitzgeralds at white oak and studewood and rockefellers at washington and heights blvd ,saw a lot of good shows in them places.
As a Kiwi born in 1967 we were so far away from the other side of the World all we ever got on Radio or TV was mainstream hits music. RU-vid opened up an entire realm of music and Bands we never saw or heard about. Flock of Seagulls is a great example because '' I Ran'' was all we heard on radio play.
Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, London and Newcastle, Glasgow.... Somethings in the water in those places. Because no other places on this Earth can produce this.
My teenage years were interesting , there was some great times , but then not so great but this music and groups that first started up '81-'83 the sound and lyrics were so awesome and has stayed with us I always go back and listen when feeling nostalgic ! I was 19 in 1982 and the music carried right through my 20's and it's magical.
Charlotte Priest if only I could go back in time to my teen years in the 80's. the world was full of hope. the only thing I look forward to now is retirement from the society enforced slavery that is work 😑
I agree. And yet the only synths in this track are the drums and a lead behind the guitar solo. I always think of them as a synth band but they go really light on them here.
My dad died 1984 so sad he was young but i love this song. Cried many times.Have thar secret smile , and ne a mystery.Stay safe everyone life is so presious.
I love the subtle and simplistic elegance of the guitar work. I didn't really appreciate this stuff in the 80s. Glad it turned out to be worth rediscovering.
@@Cherokeelion It's a shame Paul Reynolds couldn't expand on his guitar ability and his ear for music. I read he was pretty chewed up by the industry. He was pretty young in the 80s.

More proof that 80s music is still as wonderful today as it was 40 years ago. I don't see anyone boppin' to anything being made today. Can you see your kids singing along to W.A.P. in 40 years? Just sayin'.
My 14 yr old self met my 30 yr old self when I visited Giant’s Causeway in ‘99. I had my walkman on with the Best of Flock of Seagulls while walking around the incredibly beautiful area! 😍 Music is my time machine.
Paul Reynolds and the Edge have a similar sound with all the echo, reverb and delay. Such a modern and haunting sound. I love and miss this so much. I need to start learning some of this type of stuff myself. I was a total Metal Head when these guys were popular and still loved them. I guess their music spoke to me.
80s are an endless treasure trove of hidden gems. 💎 just as you think you’ve covered all the cool songs? You’ll learn about another great 80s song. Have you heard of Shrieckback? Another Brit band. “Faded Flowers” is my favorite of theirs. Hope you find more and more great songs? Peace friend
What a fantastic old song. I'm not sure I fully appreciated living in the 80's as I was living through them, but the memories get sweeter and sweeter. Great video.
This is an amazing song, stands the test of time, a very under rated band at the time, lucky enough to have seen them 3 times recently and they were awesome live
I started working with my dad not long ago. During our car rides he listens so some 80’s music. I’m starting to appreciate them more every day. I guess this type of music will never die if we pass it on to the next generation.
You're right, Yes, it's the essence of the great 80's. The sound of this era was warm and cold at the same time, perfect for pop music. They don't make music like that anymore.
This sound ... is the really essence for the eighties? even close, man. I like A flock of Seagulls since "Modern love is authomatic", got the 45", but is really far from main 80's influence, only is one of the hundred streams.
MAN THAT GUITAR GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS!! OMG I WISH THE EIGHTES NEVER ENDED!!! IT SUCKS KNOWING IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!! I WAS BORN IN 1980 SO IM PROUD OF THAT! GOD BLESS THE 80'S THANKYOU!!
100% up there with anything else in the 1980s, I Ran, Space Age Love Song and Wishing are arguably among the best songs of the decade. I'm lucky enough to have seen these 3 times in London in the last 3 years amazing live and, and I got to meet Mike after the New Cross Inn gig last year. Superb band
I listen it for the very first time during a night of 1984. So cool song! Well, all music in 1984 was perfect. I was 17, and I still feel the same, I'm 17 forever.
That nostalgic, melancholic sound of the synthesizers, the sound of guitars that move away and expand like crystalline echoes, the voices floating like the wind, the gray and metallic colors of the videos. In short, the productions of the eighties and that feeling of a time without age, a time without time, a time from another dimension, the eighties, were insurmountable. I totally lived through them and there will never be another era like this, but they have stayed in my heart and mind forever... (Comment originally written in Spanish by Douglas Palacios. Thank you, Douglas. This is beautiful and accurate in any language).
It's very nice when you drive your car (in my case a truck) around the downtown of your city with this kind of music at full volume and people look at you with a smile, realizing that you're only 32, but like good music. Not like other guys driving "tunned" cars with reggaetton at full volume.
Oh wow. This melody and the imagery from the music video has been stuck in my head for 39 years and I never figured out what song this was until right now.
