His best years he spent with a QB who was mostly a running threat. Most of the time there were 8 men in the box and 9-man boxes were not uncommon and he still ran it. YPC whatever, watch the tape, he was dominant.
@@BabyDoIIx uhhh what? he tallied almost 14,000 yards rushing, 7th all time rushing leader and only a mere 22 yards from 6th place. Statistically he is one of the best. I'd be curious for you to explain your top 20 over him?
@@garrettyoung8988 That just shows that he could handle all those carries. Endurance and stamina in a game are big reasons why hes one of the greatest ever
I loved this guy when he was at Notre Dame, I loved him with the Rams, but the day I heard he was traded to Pittsburgh!!!…… I was magic, it was meant to be, and yes, he’s my favorite too. For all the reasons you listed! He was so much fun too watch! Smash mouth football….Pittsburgh style!
I remember the first time that I saw him... It was on daytime TV. Can't remember if it was Rolanda, or Tempest or Jenny or...? but it was one of those, and it was just after he was drafted and he was modeling men's swimwear!
Good to see a story of a successful athlete who had a healthy family growing up. So many stories of dysfunctional or absent fathers in a man's life is heartbreaking.
Anyone else tear up watching this? The Bus will always be my favorite player being able to run over ppl and have asthma to prove how hard he worked and this story of how it ended it like a fairytale
The end brought a tear to my eye and I don't care who knows it. That season was awesome. We needed to win out our last 3 regular season games, then 3 playoff games on the road, which had never been done before, to get The Bus home to Detroit.
Weird Boy if you're asking me am I happy then yes I'm very happy especially with a hot wife and 30 kids. And in my strong manly voice I can say this story really touched my heart.😃
I actually cried too. I guess it was Bettis' warmth as a person and player that got to me. And to see how close his family was to him was _really_ touching. A superb documentary.
It's amazing how the Bus didn't get flagged for roughing the tacklers. I remember watching his quest for the SB trophy and I was very happy for him when he finally got it. He deserved it. He is such a great human being and an inspiration to so many.
Jerome Bettis is a Pittsburgh Steeler through and through. It was a pleasure to watch this man play and his unselfishness and leadership meant so much to the Steelers franchise. The Rams drafted him but to a generation of Steelernation he belongs to us and the memories he made in the Steelers Black and Gold. God bless Jerome and the whole Bettis family ❤️
That's one of the few times a move really paid off, almost EXACTLY the way you'd expect. When I heard he was going to the Steelers, I had a feeling this was a match made in heaven. They had had some good success with Barry Foster, and Bam Morris...but it's hard to beat Jerome. Great at the point of attack, but, hey, once he got into the secondary, NOBODY back there wanted to deal with him....corners, safeties, even some linebackers weren't in his size and strength category...As the game went on, people were less and less enthusiastic about getting in that big man's way!!!
The bus is always going to be a champion forever remembered in the Hall of Fame. The bus is the reason why I became a Steeler fan in 1995 also Joey Porter from Bakersfield California the exact place I grew up at even the same High School.
I watched him his entire career and I miss him, even though he's on the sideline as our linebackers coach. He doesnt look right in street clothes. He needs to rip off those street clothes and run out there as 55 again. Dont know why, but somehow, I keep expecting him to do it.
Wow! Gotta love him and his awesome family!! We'd all be better off if we loved and supported our family like Mr. Bettis did his! What a beautiful wife and children! Mr. Bettis won more than a Superbowl, he won at life! What a great example of a man and an American! BE SAFE,GOD BLESS!🇺🇸🙏❤
Me too. Football wasn't truly prevalent to me until that point. I just remember my aunt and uncle coming over and my cousin came up to my room asked " hey the big game is gonna start. The Steelers are in the superbowl. You coming to watch?"
This made me that much more proud to be from Detroit! And have always been a Bettis fan. Only thing that sucks is that the closest the lions will ever get to a super bowl! Bitter sweet, but great story.
For over a solid decade I watched this guy steamroll my Bengals. Along with everyone else I will add. The thing is I could feel the pain when he was doing it. MONSTER
Watching this just makes me respect the Steelers even more. I love being a Raven fan, and alot of that comes from being able to witness / be apart of this rivalry from a fans prospective. Easily the most respect out of any rivalry that I have seen from the organization to the fans of both cities. Thanks for uploading this.
Hampsho as a veteran, it’s their right to do as they please. The NFL never even used to have the players out on the field for the national anthem before 2009 when the DoD did their deal with the NFL. They aren’t kneeling to protest the flag.
Pay no attention to the other comments Josh, or the troll who started it. Its a great rivalry. And though its not there right now, with the Ravens down, the past and the future titanic match-ups between us will endure. Forever.
Cant say Bettis is the best or even my favorite player, BUT this football story is the best one I've experienced. I mean, from start to finish it's just football excellence exemplified . Thanks to all involved.
What a class act. Thank you Jerome for all the great years of football. What an amazing story and what an amazing family. God Bless you and your family Jerome.
Jerome Bettis and I went to the same high school, played for coach Dozier , he was one of many reasons why I joined the football team..it was a pleasure to meet him as a young man. Mackenzie Stags developed quite a few other NFL studs, Pepper Johnson and Gilbert Brown to name a couple
Been a Cincinnati Bengal fan since 1989. This is probably the best episode of A Football life. Funny emotional inspiration. Almost cried with Hines Ward and his daughter.
From a Chicago Bears Fan , This was special , much respect to the Jerome Bettis his career, family and the Pittsburgh Steelers Staff and Fan base after watching this salute to all you guys.
@@danieljones1939 %100 bro..doesn't matter who bought the house..being responsible and doing the right things don't change..parents trying to save him from those women trying to leech off his success and have kids running around without a father in the home..Jerome's "crazy" parents together helped make him into what he was and the father and husband he became..
Omg I haven't cried like this in a while. Dame this was a great one. Woww heart felt 💯💯💯💯💪 love the buss he was unstoppable. Got alot of money winning on the video game .
Never rooted for the Steelers (many bad memories, as a Dallas fan) but Super Bowl 40 my late wife loved the Steelers, btw, said "Well I guess for Seattle." I said "No. I'm rooting for the Steelers. I want Bettis to go out, on top!" (Baby was shocked btw). But I knew he was going to be great, when he played for ND. Well done Jerome! Big props to you & your family. I loved this video, thanks for sharing this. My grandson will get to see this.
An amazing story from my already favorite player! Just strengthened my argument for the bus being the g.o.a.t. Not only as a player, but as a human being! Love you Jerome! Never a man more deserving of that diamond incrusted ring or h.o.f. jacket
This made me cry because I'm a die hard STEELERS fan but im a DIE HARD Jerome Bettis fan and I hope someday I can meet him and shake his hand and say THANK YOU.
As a Cowboys fan there are three of these episodes that really moved me inside....Staubach, Samurai Mike Singletary and Jerome "the bus" Bettis. Amazing, inspiring stories. Steelers have such a great history all you can do is tip your hat to what they have accomplished over the years.
38:07 “I don’t care how many yards you get, just hold onto the ball” that’s a coach and player understanding the assignment. I love it. I miss playing so much 🥺
He made you feel like you knew him on a personal level, because what you saw was what he truly was. It takes more than being a good athlete to do that Thank You for being what you are. ..........and some Good Football
Whoever chose the music that started at 30:40 is a genius. Him running, unstoppable with the snow coming down, it was like a hero coming out of Valhalla to save us all, or save the season. With all the good years, and the tragic losses, he was invincible at the end. We will never forget Jerome Bettis.
Dragon Ballets Yeah memory blurs with time. This episode of a Football Life sharpened those memories. I had watched him from when he came to the Steelers in 93. I had forgotten the many things about him. Kind of bittersweet though. He's been gone for almost 13 years now, and all we have are memories. Just like with Troy 3 years gone, and the Steelers of the seventies.
I'm not crying... What a great person. Definitely deserved to go out on top at home the way he did. And it's the best Super Bowl storyline of all time. Period, end of story.
This is what true Detroiter's do of our era, 60's/70's babies! We lead and inspire others. This mantra taught to us by our parents... "DETROIT STRONG" baby..
Bettis and Lewis. Both went out with a Super Bowl win. Both deserved it. The Ravens/Steelers rivalry has allowed me to watch some of the best football ever played. I've seen Bettis, Polamalu, Roethlisberger, Ward, Lewis, Suggs, Reed, Ogden, and many other players entertain and inspire their cities. What a great time to have been a fan. Congrats JB on an incredible career.
Rich Brooks, shut up. You were phasing him out, you didn't help him succeed. No one even remembers you as a coach and you were fired the next year. Maybe you'd still have a career if you didn't cut him
Loved Jerome his whole career, when I'd play RB and got to truck over someone I felt like The Bus, that was on a schoolyard at recess, I can only imagine how that'd feel at the highest level. But stories like his, even Hollywood can't write a story this good. Much respect Jerome
This is my favorite football life. I learned so much from this man, and gosh I wish I could meet him and thank him and his family for teaching me things I never knew.
The guy who recovered the fumble at 33:04 from the Colts #25 Nick Harper was my childhood best friend. I always tell he should have hit the sideline instead of cutting back. But he did win a ring the next year.
Watched this and couldn't keep my 👀 dry. Not even gonna cap, that year and many years before I was and still am a Seahawks fan...but after seeing this I'm thankful Jerome got him that Super Bowl. Not many deserved it more then this warrior of the gridiron. 💯
