He's the reason the nfl won't draft running backs that can't catch. He started it. I mean, teams were running screen plays to back but that's it. They either ran the ball or stayed in and blocked, but never ran routes. And still to this day there isn't a running back that could run the full route tree the way did

People know the name. They know Marshall Faulk was a great player. They know he's a Hall of Famer. They just, for the most part, don't understand HOW GREAT of a football player this man was. Unless you came up watching the game during his era - you just don't know. There were some GREAT backs in his era. But if I had to build a team in that era, starting with the RB position - gimme Marshall Faulk over everybody playing RB at the time.

Did you even watch the game. He averaged 5 yards per carry. He simply wasn't the go to for some reason..... His OC threw them out game. New England made it ab ugly game and if the Rams would have embraced that and ran the ball more would have been a different outcome. Simply put they threw the ball too much due to what had been working in the past. Pats kept eveeyrhing in front of them nothing deep, and the rams refused ro Adjust period! They lost that game because they were OUT COACHED. THEY DID NOT STOP FAULK!!!

To my mind and eye, as a runner, he was a 50/50 combination of Tony Dorsett and Barry Saunders. And a hint of Fred Astaire. He exhibited perfect balance. Looks like he ran on the balls of his feet, not the toes. One of my absolute favorite RBs ever. Maybe the most complete back since Walter (run, block, throw, catch in equanimity and with clinical execution). So great at it all, that I just never think about him until I see it again. Thanks A Football Life for reminding me.

Instead of paying $7mill to Faulk, they could pay $2mill to James instead and free up salary. James lit it up when he entered the league(Faulk like numbers) and Faulk got a SB. "A FOOTBALL LIFE" is such an awesome program, and "A Football Life - Marshall Faulk" is bar far one of my favorites. For a kid that grew up in such poor and difficult situation and then become not only such a world class football player and champion but become such an incredibly classy individual and great man... It would truly be an honor to be his friend... Truly humbling and inspiring! Kudos to his mom as he was obviously very well parented by her.

A #28 authentic player jersey has hung on my living room wall for 20 years. It commemorates an era and an athlete and hometown pride, sure, but the man Marshall Faulk is off the field is the real inspiration and total life goals.

Eric Dickerson was 6'3" 225-230 he ran through more players then he ran around them, I give you effortless but not smooth with Dickerson. Faulk does not remind me of Eric Dickerson, that is like saying Floyd Mayweather reminds me of Mike Tyson...

Jesus Cavazos I love Zeke. Emmitt is one of the most overrated. Barry, Bo, Walter, Jim, Gayle, Marshall, LT, Marshawn, Adrian. Would have better numbers with that Dallas team.

Awesome story. Awesome player and it sounds like an even better person. I grew up a Niners fan (until Owens then Mariucci left) and I remember Dickerson being a problem. I remember Bettis being a problem. I remember the '89 Rams when Flipper Anderson caught the TD pass against the Giants in OT (and ran straight to the locker room) thinking they'd be a problem. That Rams team with Warner, Faulk, Bruce, Holt though? There was just nothing anyone could do with that. I remember seeing highlights of Warner throwing 20 TDs to 12th string TEs on Fox score updates. Shout outs the the New England film & production team for being the unsung heroes of Super Bowl 36. Yes that was a Brady fumble against the Raiders though. Yes that was a catch by Bert Emanuel though.
