You have such fun with your projects, and it was a hoot to see the look on your face when you had the idea to use your blue art yarn in your yellow weaving project! I love the look of twisted fringe on scarves, and the tool is great, but there is a reason why i have only worn one of my woven scarves for nearly a decade.... the twisting just takes a long time!! I love Ivana from The Republic of Me. She doesn’t talk much in depth about her weaving but does show the lovely finished products. She is also a very accomplished painter! I know a loom is “looming” in my future (lol) but at this point I’ve got more questions than projects I want to use it for so I’ve got some more research to do. I just loved the blue art yarn with the yellow “normal” yarn. Playing around may not end up being a prized possession but I think it’s the best way to open the door to creative paths you never would have thought of. ❤

LisaR : Happy Mother's day Lisa! I loved this all :) I learned to spin& weave in 1990 & like I did when young I always wanted the deep dive right from the start . That meant my first loom was a 54 " floor loom - first project was hand dyed & spun warp /weft plaid purples the full width of that loom .. Young mind , young body - challenges attracted my interest & then the interest would go onto a new skill . Knitting, spinning sewing the exception. Once our family started to grow , weaving on that loom wasn't practical or even safe . Each of my 3 sons were attracted to it like magnets- The tie ups & brake , foot treadles , even string heddles &back heavy beams all potential dangers .It was dismantled and stored with TLC until recently . I discovered the rigid heddle loom a about 6 years ago and My huge 8 shaft is sitting still waiting to be rebuilt . I LOVE direct warping in 30 minutes on 24 inch rigid heddle ( on stand agree!) The thought of spending what I recall more time warping than weaving on my floor loom isn't appealing. So many options with rigid heddles ,especially if you set up with double heddle it's like adding more shafts to a floor loom (as well as allowing for double weave . )The treadling I miss , but there's spinning ;) Think Im going to let go of it so it gets used . I have a baby wolf floor loom that frame is "x" so folds and takes little space - if the urge hits . Your marigolds are beautiful . You have a whole lot of easy gorgeous , safe deep Golden yellow to pale yellow (or greens if you add iron - not as safe & needs care in disposal ). I used 8 marigold heads in an old crock pot , ( mordant is cream of tartar, & alum, some baking soda at end will brighten color ) I was able to get 200gms from the 8 heads . you can freeze the heads fresh and use through the year :) In case you need another very fun rabbit hole to delve into ! The loom outside is an inspired idea ❤

If you ever decide you want to go to a floor loom I would recommend Jane Stafford's on-line classes. She is an excellent teacher!! I am watching this in Oct 2023 as I have been using my rigid heddle loom lately..I enjoyed seeing your shawl and experiments with your art yarn-at the same time I also looked at some of my own handspun skeins for weaving. It was helpful!

Very happy to have come across your videos again. I used to watch, but for some reason lost touch. Good to see that you're retired & enjoying it. I began weaving Jan, 2023 with a 16" Ashford Sampleit loom and a few months ago, bought their 32" one. I keep my looms on a stand & do use hybrid warping following instrux from Amy d. McNight. It's just like direct weaving but with multiple pegs. If you have any interest in making clothing, I suggest you check out Sarah Howard. She's a lovely British woman who weaves rather narrow pieces of fabric generally using her own handspun yarns. Even tho I may never make a piece of clothing, I love watching (& listening) to her.

So glad to hear you've got the weaving bug!! I totally agree about the widths, I find the 20in Ashford Knitters loom so easy to set up and weave on.

That art yarn reminded me of the one I had bought years ago (we are talking 1980´s here) during my first trip ever behind the Iron Curtain (where I grew up) to France. It had sort of lilac, pink and beige bits in it together with the shiny white. I knitted a sort of very loose sleeveless vest to wear over a tight white T-shirt and light blue jeans. I had been much admired among my friends :o)

Hi there. I am also a "baby weaver". I just spent way too long warping my loom for the second time today. I really appreciate everything you shared. The other channels you mentioned are helpful. Curly-n-Yarny was one I already checking out and have enjoyed her channel. Your explanations of the books you shared that you have were very helpful. I have added them to my list of books I would like to get. I think Weaving Made Easy may be the first one I order. Double weave sounds really cool but I'm a bit intimidated to try it after messing up a few times just warping the full length of my loom. Your art yarn is really cool. I've avoided spinning art yarn because I didn't have a use for it. Now, spinning art yarn may be something I willing to try.

Find reading & understanding weaving drafts intimidating so I haven’t pursued weaving. This video has me considering buying a small loom like yours to give the weaving enchantress a chance to catch me :)

I remember seeing Evie (@jillianeve) saying that some of the textured yarns look great as an accent in a knitted piece like, say, the brim of a hat… I love the Violet Unicorns’ videos - she is a great teacher. The two books you review in the video are great books and you reminded me to get mine out again! Also I have Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom (Discover the Full Potential of the Rigid-Heddle Loom) by Syne Mitchell - it is an inspiring and useful book (you may have seen it). Meanwhile, I am still trying to spin a boucle yarn😂🙄

Hi Lisa, enjoy! Jane Patrick’s book is amazing. I did a long sampler about 10 years ago, using my own at the time new Flip Loom, and her book. Learned a lot, had a wonderful time….SO many things you can explore without shafts. I was in awe! Thanks for sharing your fiber journey! And yes, Saori weaving is one of my favorites as well….and of course, don’t need a Saori loom to do it! Total serendipity! I hope, if I can figure out how to use iMovie, I can join the ranks of your gorgeous videos! Love every one of them! Happy crafting!

Lovely video, thank you for sharing! I've just started to learn to weave and my first project on my rigid heddle was a handspun scarf, the rec of The Violet Unicorn is a very good one :D The warping instruction on that channel was absolutely instrumental in getting me started.

I love the 2 yarns added to your weaving. I’ve been weaving a lot with my hand spun and love it. Also I think adding art yarn in shawls and some sweaters as an accent is beautiful. If you want another easy option for short rows look up Japanese short rows. They are super easy and you can use then instead of other short rows.

What a beautiful art yarn that is! In case you face that problem again that your shuttle is too thick for your shed, you might want to try to use either an empty shuttle or a pick up stick, put it in first, turn it so that it opens the shed even more and then pass your shuttle. I have just begun my weaving adventure with an Ashford loom. I am loving it. I am trying the Kelly Casanova weaving school and it is brilliant. You can trial with a monthly subscription so it is very inexpensive. It pays for itself.
