A Millennial's Conversion from Catholic to Mormon

Today we have Jimmy on the show to talk about his conversion story. Jimmy recently joined the Mormon Church despite some major difficulties, which you'll hear about in the episode :) We had the BEST time filming with him and are ever inspired by his story. We know you'll be inspired too!
Jimmy was raised Catholic and became disillusioned with his religion. He lost his believe in God and for a few years, was scrutinized for his lack of belief. He was in an awful depression that led to thoughts of suicide. However, by God's hand, Jimmy eventually found the LDS Church and was baptized, despite disapproval from his family.
Jimmy says to the audience, “If I could tell anyone who is considering joining the Church anything it’s this: If you’re scared because of how your parents or your friends may react and you go through with it, don’t give up on them.”
Check out his full conversion story! Do you have a similar story? Let us know in the comments below!

Hi, I’m a Catholic and I just want to say I am so sorry on behalf of your bad experiences in the Catholic Church. I converted to Catholicism and can def relate to Jimmy’s experiences feeling distant from his family during a period of conversion. I do have to say that I hope you realize that the priests who called you when you were thinking about leaving the church that they devoted their life to likely did it out of love and devotion to the 2,000 year old church. The Catholic Church, like the LDS Church, has many flawed people, but the true meaning of the Catholic Church is to find truth and relationship with God and not to live a life of pain or suffering. God bless you, I wish the best for you.

I'm a little surprised that a self-described traditionalist Catholic would say that the purpose of life is to suffer. That is not what the Catholic Church teaches. If you read older catechisms, such as the Baltimore Catechism (which many self-described traditionalists love), it states things like: 6. Q. Why did God make you? A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next. The Catholic Church does teach that suffering can bring good and can help us learn fortitude and courage, and allows us to unite ourselves to Christ's suffering on the cross. I am disheartened that you left the fullness of the truth that is contained in the Catholic Church, and I pray that you will once back come back home.

Jimmy, I felt truly sorry to what you have experienced with the "Catholic style parenting". Personally, as a Catholic close to the traditional Catholic practices, I would say your parents are not practicing the real Catholic teachings I have once dated a mormon boy, and this is the reason why i started interest to research in mormon faith. I watched the "General Conference" videos, read Book of Mormon, browse the LDS church website. there are things which i found truly attractive from the LDS church, the teaching of "temple marriage", "family in heaven" are the doctrine that I found wonderful, and from what i have witnessed the LDS church community as one of the best type of community that i would like to join, it is warm, friendly, and LDS people are wonderful. in contrast, back in my Catholic parish, there are times where i felt less welcoming as Catholic youth are normally not as engaged to the church as LDS youth. This is why LDS church is truly attractive to me. But at the same time, as long as i read more LDS teachings, i noticed the similarities and difference our church doctrine uphold. The difference forced me to research the Catholic history and teachings, and other denominations' teachings. At that moment, I found the Catholic church is the only church i believe as the truth. I am not trying to convince you that catholic church is true, but i wish you have gone through the same process as me and learn about your own church. if you found that LDS church is the church you truly believe as the truth, congratulations as I am sure you are in peace. I wish you find true peace in where you belong, and will surely pray for you, and please pray for us Catholics as well

Ps: the comment he made at the end about Joseph Smith was so true. Before you can see the light, sometimes you have to walk through the darkness in faith and hold onto “the iron rod” to stay on the covenant path in times of darkness. And the same thing that happened with Joseph happened to me, Satan came to me first before I came to Christ. The difference is that I submitted to Satan for 11 years before finally seeing the light. Jospeh saw it in seconds after calling out and praying in the sacred grove. I believe that is another testament to Joseph’s unwavering faith and how he truly followed the instructions of James 1:5-6!!

The moment I started studying the Mormon church and the Mormon religion and the teachings of the Mormon Church, I started to feel peace and comfort and in all honesty, I started to feel “at home”. I raised catholic, and I was a Cathequist for three years. I was happy with the Catholicism. My mother was an example to me. She was a very devoted person. She always was telling me that she wanted all her 11 children to be seal with her for all eternity. I never understood her desires. On 1982 she had a car accident and died. I was devastated the way she died! Soon after her death she came in dreams crying and telling me to find The Church of Jesuchrist. She pointed to a beautiful garden full of tiny lilac flowers, and kept crying. My aunt invited me to go to a catholic retreat. The room was packed with reverent people. The service was very spiritual. I had a beautiful experience seeing a baby blue book with an angel with a gold trumpet on the top of the front page in my right hand. On my left hand I had a bouquet of lilac flowers. I could not understand that vision at all! Months passed and I was not feeling well. I got sick, because I missed my mother very much, and I was depressed thinking the way she died. On June 1982 I was working in a boutique close where I lived. One day two young men came in to talk with the owner of the boutique. She was not there. I was crying, and they asked me why I was crying. I told them the story. They asked me if I want to be with my mother in the eternity. Wow! I stopped crying, and I opened my eyes. I said: "how can I do that"? They explained to me The Plan of Salvation. I was astonished! I sent them to my house to share that with my children. My two sons were in the Jesuits College, and they were having problems questioning the school principal why the catholic church doesn't have a prophet and apostles? They never gave them the correct answer. Because of that they told me that my sons had no place in that school. I put them in the public school. As soon I got home from my job, I prepared a good dinner, and they told them everything about the LDS church. My sons stood us and embraced me telling me that I can be seal with my mother for all eternity. We enjoyed their testimonies. They left with the promise of sending two young men to teach us the Gospel of Jesuschrist. Two weeks later they came I gave to us a blue book with an angel with a trumpet in the front page. I could not believe! That was the book that I had the vision! It was The Book of Mormon! Soon after the first lesson my son felt the Spirit, and told them to be baptized. Then in my son's baptism, his brother felt the spirit and told the Missionaries that he wanted to be baptized, and later my daughter. We were attending meeting in an old house. A new sacrament meeting house was in construction. We were baptized in the new building. Next Sunday we went to the new building first time. What a beautiful surprise when I saw two bouquets of lilac flowers on both sides of the stage! The same flowers that my mother showed me in the dream that I had. They are not coincidences! The Book of Mormon is true. I have no doubt of it at all! I have been a member for 37 years. I am the most happy person in the world! I know that outside are many churches, and I know that The Lord has a plan for us all, and there are many different stage and glorious mansions in heaven. The beauty of this is that our Heavenly Father gaves us the gift of the free agency!

WOW - I have been watching the 3 Mormon videos week by week after learning about them just a few months ago. I love them ALL, but this one about Jimmy's conversion really touched me deeply! It's the first time I have felt the need to comment. I, too, am a Catholic convert of many years! I started attending when I was 12 and had to wait for permission from my family to be baptized which came at 15. There was many years of conflict though not nearly as deep. (I am much older now - I could easily be any of your moms' ages - ha ha!!) But the burning I felt in my heart when I heard Jimmy share his answered prayer and describe his conversion to the gospel further witnesses to me of the Tender Mercies of God. (Read Elder Bednar's talk by the same name) I was so deeply touched at the miracles that occurred in Jimmy's life that fateful night in his bedroom. God truly knows and loves us. There will be time when that relationship with him and his Dad will be healed. Perhaps by the time I am commenting, it has been healed and Jimmy knows it, but if not yet, IT WILL. I know it!!! On a side note, I have a family member and best friend (from HS) that are both Catholic priests. Men who are both good to the core, but changing the faith of your family or the community in which you were raised is hard stuff. I get it. But when you know what you know to be true you can move forward in faith. THANKS for sharing your conversion, Jimmy!

I realised I had to reject Jesus God the Son and His Word Scared Scriptures and the Only Bride of Christ (The Catholic Church) then accept erroneous doctrines of Jesus of the Mormon church who is a creature !!! which is false and full of erroneous errors. I thank Heavenly Father for His Saving Grace and Great Glory Lord God Heavenly King, Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ for the Grace to see how false the Mormon LDS Church really is. This is my story of joining the church: When I was little I would go to church with my family, I think we jumped around with churches but I was little so I don't know. After some time me & my older brother stopped going to church, I think he went to one a few years later but he didn't join it & hasn't been to any church since & I don't recall going to any church after stopping. In 2015 or 2016 I got a *Book of Mormon* which I may have started reading but stopped & a few days after getting it I became sick, in late 2016 my grandma died & a few months after that some missionaries showed up looking for my dad who was gone. The missionaries asked if I wanted to talk at which point I said no so we started talking & I started taking lessons, on February 11, 2017 I was baptized into the church. I don't pray that much but I think that is due to me not going to church for years but honestly if God wants you, he will come for you. I was looking into the LDS Church off & on as I was watching Mormon RU-vidrs but I can't say I would have made the jump to convert on my own, I would have mostly just followed it without being a member.

5zazen I am sorry you feel like you are not part of the group. I have lived in the South and in the West. I have noticed that there are differences in both places that I like and that I dislike. I believe the cultures have something to do with it. There have been people who have been kind and those who have been unkind. However, I know God loves me and I have felt his love for me as I attend church and listen to the messages. The Holy Ghost has touched my heart and filled me with joy to help me through the week. I have a neighbor who has always been serving someone in little ways for the past twenty-five years. He would cut a single ladies lawn or bring cookies to you. We have just become better friends with him and his wife because they started inviting us over for dinner once a month. I know that they had struggles in their family life but it has been good to see how they are doing much better as a couple. I believe that serving others has blessed them to see each other in a better light. I think the best calling we have is the one where we visit each other and find ways to serve them. I have family members who have had every calling possible and I have had the same ones over and over. I have decided to learn to do it better with love. If you desire to serve, ask your Bishop if there is something you can do to help. My dad has been asked by his Bishop to fellowship a few people in their ward. It has been interesting to watch him befriend people he would have never gotten to know otherwise. My dad is in his eighties, he has been a Stake President, a temple sealer but this job can be the most challenging and yet the most rewarding. Not knowing your true situation, I hope you find the answers you seek. I know that the Book of Mormon has many promises in there that we all can receive if we keep his commandments. That is the hope that brings me peace and helps me to do my best to serve. Have a great day.

My parents, both members of the church, were born and raised catholics. My dad's side are what i can say luke-worm catholics and my mom's side are devout catholics. When they join the church 3 weeks after they started taking lessons from the missionaries, my grandparents on my dad's side were not happy at all about it and gave them the hardest time about it. One day, my dad had enough, put his foot down, and said "keep it up and you'll never see your grand daughter (me) again!" They stopped after ward because they didn't want to loose me since my cousin and I are the closest out of 7 grand children they have at the time and they became supportive of that. In fact they came to my baptism when I was 8. My grand parents on my mom's side were.... eh. Like my grandfather, being very devout and raised my mom, my tia, and my tios in a way that's similar to some of our church's standard, was happy for my mom because he saw how much happiness it brought her and that's all he wanted for her. Now my grandmother, um..... she isn't the most positive person ever. So for my mom that didn't get along well and wasn't close with her growing up, she didn't really didn't care of what my grandmother says. Although they were also there for my baptism.

Jimmy, I'm from Georgia too! I had issues with depression and prayed a desperate prayer like you did. I also got an immediate response (it was actually through three different people telling me the same thing.) After a beautiful and challenging road of discovery, I became Catholic. I'm sorry the Catholics in your family let you down. You talk about Catholics being all about suffering, but yet your story speaks of redemptive suffering. Your suffering brought you to God, you say. Well, God does not want us to suffer, but He sometimes allows it for our good because he loves us and wants us to be united to Him. I don't know where you live, or if you're in school, but a lot of Catholics have Newman Centers. If you ever have any questions bugging you, reach out to someone there and ask. Maybe stop in and pray. God bless you!

Hi Jimmy, 3 Mormons, and any Mormon Missionary kind enough to read my appeal, Please help me. I’m a Catholic who’s been exploring Mormonism, who’s been praying about it, and the more I read about Mormonism, especially from the testimony of converts, the more confused I become. First off, I have read a lot (believe a lot) of materials published by LDS organizations about Catholic converts to Mormonism and they are all poorly done. Jimmy, I’ve listened to your interview multiple times and you weren’t Roman Catholic. You seemed to have belonged to an ultra-conservative/traditionalist branch split off group that calls themselves “Catholic” but they’re not Catholic. Catholics are in communion with the Bishop of Rome. I don’t think you’re church was. I notice that LDS materials about “Catholics” converting to Mormonism were largely based on schismatics’ stories. To illustrate, should I equate your LDS community to Warren Jeffs and the polygamy for everyone group? Because that’s what a lot of Mormon materials do when they falsely depict Catholics. My advice to y’all, stop the crappy, lazy incorrect nomenclature. You say your church taught “the purpose of life is suffering.” That’s not at all what Catholics believe. We believe the purpose of life is to love and to serve God, our brothers and sisters and all of creation. And I honestly believe that something we have in common with LDS. Here’s what the very first chapter of the Catechism says: “The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for: The dignity of man rests above all on the fact that he is called to communion with God. This invitation to converse with God is addressed to man as soon as he comes into being. For if man exists it is because God has created him through love, and through love continues to hold him in existence. He cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and entrusts himself to his creator” You say “Catholics just don’t like Mormons.” That’s also a pretty silly statement. Some Catholics might not, but really it’s just we think you’re wrong and we find Mormon missionaries pretty smug. There’s a difference between not liking and disagreeing on questions of theology. And we most certainly do disagree on some matters of theology. Jimmy, you mention the LDS concept of Plan of Salvation. As Catholics we call that progression evident in scripture Salvation History. It’s Catholic 101 they talk about in CCD class, the fact you didn’t pick that up from the get go means you had some poor catechesis. So don’t call yourself a “former Catholic.” Call yourself a poorly catechized former “Catholic”. That’s not your fault, that’s a legitimate issue we’re facing in the Catholic Church. Just as record high levels of concealed depression and anxiety are a legitimate issue women in the LDS community face due to unrealistic perfectionist expectations forced upon them. And that’s not anti-Mormon polemics, it’s a major issue Mormon publications talk a lot about. That said, LDS deserves credit for its commitment to strong families and clean living free of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Mormons also have some the highest life expectancy rates of any group in the country, largely because of the strong community bonds and clean living. However good these behaviors are, that doesn't make them derived from God. There are plenty of cults that espouse clean living (I do NOT view LDS as cult, it is definitely a legitimate religion that should be respected as one but also open to honest criticism). I agree, the whole argument about bees not being in the Americas at the time of the events depicted in the Book of Mormon is a bit weird. But it hits on my major stumbling block with Mormonism. Look, can I see those plates Joseph Smith translated from? Is there any non-Mormon or externally agreed upon evidence that we can use to corroborate the origins of the Book of Mormon? Can any non-Mormon scholars confirm the existence of such a thing as Reformed Egyptian, the very language the Book of Mormon was supposedly composed in? The answer is no. Frankly, the language of the Book of Mormon is obviously composed by somebody who read a lot of King James style English, not someone fluent in an ancient Near Eastern language. And yes, I’ve read excerpts of the Book of Mormon from LDS missionary materials. My other huge issue with Mormon convert stories is they rely solely on feelings which they call “truth.” Jimmy you repeatedly say “if you know it’s true, then you know it’s true…” “Keep doing what you know is right…” You see, here’s my problem. You rely on that warm, fuzzy feeling inside that tells you it’s true. Schizophrenics might dress like batman and say “it’s true, I’m batman” because they feel they’re batman. That doesn’t make them batman. Can you give me some hard, verifiable, maybe, historical evidence that’s compelling enough that makes LDS “true”? Because that kind of testimony is woefully lacking in all these LDS conversion stories. There’s a lot of fluff and little Logos. The historical reality is Mormonism emerged in America in the 1830s during a period of religious hysteria called the Second Great Awakening, in which Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were pretty active participants. The whole translating the plates through the hat, that wasn’t novel. There’s a well recorded history of whacky American folk Protestantism that did things like that during that period. Refute me here: as a Catholic, I can look at a wealth of Early Christian writings dated to the first and second centuries AD that describe Catholic liturgy and teachings to the tee. I can go to Rome, in the Catacombs where the first century Christians celebrated Mass during the persecutions of Nero, Trajan, and Diocletian. The art, iconography, and prayers these first Christians left us in these Catacombs is the same art we have in our Catholic Churches. I would encourage you to lookup the writings of the St, Clement of Rome, Ignatius of Antioch, Justin Martyr, Tertullian, etc. Sorry, it’ll be more than 7 pages. If you’re up for the challenge, you’ll find the Church these first Christians describe looks a lot like one in Rome. I challenge you to convince me otherwise. Establishing the truth of LDS Church doesn’t depend on warm, fuzzy, feelings. It depends on the concept of the Great Apostasy; that the early Church deviated early on in its history. Now, is there any historical record of that? There is a well-trodden path of Protestants that have gone on this journey of digging through early Christian writings to identify this “Great Apostasy. Those Protestants ended up Catholic based on what the historical evidence presented (see Bl. John Newman, among many others). God Bless and work on seeking truth that’s draws from the Logos and is not dependent on warm fuzzies. So, rectify my confusion: Given the historical record, what are your rational reasons (beyond emotions and clean living) that explain the truth of Mormonism?

Tribesman2010, I really appreciate your comment, and your respect for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In regards to your first question, I appreciate you describing the difference between the different Catholic beliefs. I wasn’t aware of that. It’s frustrating when people equate Warren Jeff’s “religion” to the LDS church, so I can definitely relate to your frustration there. In regards to what I think was your 2nd question...may I answer with a question? What would happen if we DID have the plates Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from? Because of the nature of how the Book of Mormon was brought about, wouldn’t that dissipate the need for faith? There’s purpose to God restricting what is given to us with undeniable proof, and that is the need for his people to practice faith. ALL Christians need to practice faith. There is no undeniable evidence that the events in the Bible actually took place either. God designed it this way for a purpose. Faith is important. Hebrews 11:6, 4:2. Ether 12:6, 12

Louise Hunt Peter and the Apostles did not keep the offices of Apostle filled faster than they became vacant. Thats why the highest office of the priesthood in your church is Bishop. Bishops are local leaders, not Apostles. One office of the everlasting priesthood do not succeed any others. Once the offices of Apostle was completely vacant there was no longer an authorized priesthood order on the Earth. The “Catholic Church” hasn’t had authority to administer the will of God ever since. Any Church protesting from the Catholic Church yet retaining the traditions of functioning without Apostles ordained by Apostles before them is as unauthorized as the Catholic Church is today. The authority had to be restored to Earth by those who last possessed it. Those who last held the keys to the authority to administer the Church returned them by personally transferring them by the laying on of hands to Joseph Smith and other Latter-day Saints in our last dispensation (this “age” of the Earth). Only through angelic ministering by the resurrected men could the authority to administer the Church exist among man on the Earth. It is the marvelous work and a wonder that Isaiah the prophet wrote of. It is the stone cut out of the mountain without hands that Daniel saw while interpreting King Nebuchedneezer’s dream... The Catholic Church is not an authorized church of Jesus Christ today.

Berkey Family God has revealed to His One and Holy Apostolic church. Those outside the Church who are true truth seekers will eventually find themselves in the Catholic Church. We are one body in this one Lord. Jesus choose the 12 Apostles not man. And to fulfil the requirements of a Apostle scripture supports they had to choose one person who had been living and a disciple from the beginning and with them up to the time of His Baptism and Accession into Heaven. Which one of your so called apostles can fulfil the word of God? Mormonism was birthed out of the distorted truth of Protestants. Check your history. You may not believe in the one and only Bride of Christ which is the Holy Catholic Church on Earth but you will when your die.

J J I've always been a Christian, but the LDS doctrines in particular make a lot more sense to me; like heaven and hell not being the only destinations after this life, and the idea of there still being apostles on Earth today who communicate directly with God. Also, the need for a Restoration definitely makes sense to me; I learned about the LDS faith at school this year, and ever since then its stayed in my heart, and there's something about it that I just can't shake. Until now I've been meeting with missionaries online, and lately I've been wanting to meet with some in person and attend church. I just told my parents today that I'm interested in the Church and they think it's a cult :( I'm just praying that with time they'll be able to see all the good that the church has to offer.

I can empathize too brother. I'm a very proud Lds / ex catholic too.. smh MANY many catholics sure are quite proudly cruel, very resentful to lds, and religiously, viciously disrespectful. I know how it is.. Others on the other hand have shown me respect and friendship. Anyways, don't let anyone, especially those that are supposed to be Lds, other Christians, friends or family ruin your happiness in the church. I've suffered and endured so much life experience myself from losing a parent to suicide, another to cancer, drug abuse, gang affiliation, brutal military experience, despicable "family" turning on me pretty harshly over religion, or politics, everlasting depression, homelessness, traumatic injuries, ptsd, you name it. Still here and making it. So can YOU brothers and sisters of the church. AND out the church. We're all brothers and sisters from the very same mold of humanity. We're all suffering in this same life of Earth so we need to help and heal each other as much as possible. Despite any differences. Don't let what I deem petty differences like that between Catholic or Lds faiths divide us. We, catholic, lds, atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, Hinduists jew, other gentile, etc. can very much all bridge the gaps that keep breaking apart the ONE human family of God. We shouldn't have to be enemies for crap like oh I left your church or oh well I left yours too. Lets get along. You really want to fix this world and help everyone's Christ, than lets get it done. All of us TOGETHER ❤🤝💙

I am sad that you and your Dad were not able to see eye to eye until he passed! But, as we know now, he must be saying to the missionaries in the Spirit World how proud he is of you!

Edelweiss Montera I pray for all the Mormons and those who reject God the Son of the Father. I wanted to join but I thank God for His Grace to remain in Him In His Holy Catholic Church. The Devil has his plans for the righteous. I fear only bad Catholics who condemn themselves, by committing apostasy. God the Son warned and give us His Church, The Chair of Peter, and the Twelve, The Early Church Fathers to protect Her. How sad that the dark people in this cult think that a prophet says your worthy what about your grandfathers weren't they worthy too. What makes you different. How great the fall from a false prophet. Priests never go anywhere alone they either take a chain of Soul to Heaven or drag them all to Hell.

What a sweet kid. Tell him to listen to the conversion story of Bill Carpenter. That is who he reminded me of. Bill's story is absolutely awesome! And so is yours kiddo! Keep staying strong! Truth is truth and now you can help you dad get his work done and hopefully the Angels can get him to accept the truth in the spirit world

I think it's great you found the right place. I think that its fantastic and I am happy for you. Your dad didn't understand your choices. I'm sure he was worried. But I bet he still loved you. As a mom, I want you to know that we love our kids and want them to be happy. When a baby is born we have a lot of hopes and dreams for them. When you guys grow up and stray from what we imagined for you, it can be difficult to adjust. Especially when it's an unexpected... and when its percieved as a choice kinda off the beaten path. Sometimes what looks like anger is a mask for worry and fear. We grapple with some pretty big questions. Is this my fault? Did I do a bad job? What constitutes guidance and what constitutes pressure? Is this a rejection of me? In terms of religion, it can be very tough for a parent with a strong faith watch a child take a different path. Remember, the strength of thier faith in Catholicism is as strong as your conviction in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is. Your parents botched the discussion with you. Emotions won out over cool heads. Its crummy, but it happens. I'm guilty of it myself. I'm on edge. Watching my teen navigate her way to adulthood is pretty rough at times. I don't drink, but if I was going to, it would be now. Like you, shes a great kid. Mature, intelligent, with quality friends, wonderful activities and fantastic grades. I'm proud of her. I'm terrified of landmines. She's leaving the nest soon. Our relationship is changing. I did my best. Now we find out if I gave her the right tools for life. I'm betting that your parents struggled with very similar questions.

joey puvel Ever heard of partaking the sacrament? The priesthood says a blessing and bread which is a sign of Christ body and we take it and then they say a prayer on water which is a sign of his blood and then we drink it.

Just a straight girl “eat my flesh, and drink my blood” “my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink”. Unless you eat of the flesh of the son of man, and drink of his blood, you have no life in you. Translation of Bethlehem: house of bread, or house of meat. Depending on the language (Hebrew or Arabic) Jesus was put in a manger. A manger is a food dish for sheep. He’s the bread of life. Not just a sign. God bless you.

Yo I just wanted to apologise on behalf of the Catholic Church for the experiences you had. Traditionalist Catholics don't reprisent what being Catholic is actually like nor do they show Christ's love. It must have been horrible growing up in that environment. None of the things that you said they taught you are actually believed by the mainstream Catholic Church. I'm glad that you've found happiness finally.

I agree. It's such a shame that Catholic Church treats people like this. Not good at all and robs people of the true presence of Jesus Christ.

No, the Catholic Church is loving. If a Catholic person is mean to you, its just because they're mean, not because they're Catholic. Its the Traditionalist Catholics who don't show Jesus' love.

Liv Luketina-Giffney God isn't about our happiness. God is about what is good, true, and beautiful. Those lead to true happiness. The LDS isn't God's Church. To be in it is to accept lies.

How ridiculous. You have no idea how traditionalist Catholics operate and to suggest that traditionalist Catholics are all how he states his father is is ridiculous. I am a convert to Catholicism, and I consider myself a traditionalist. Traditionalists are some of the most beautiful, loving, Christ-like people in our Church, and they embrace the theology of our Holy Catholic Church.

As soon as he mentioned he was originally Catholic, I knew there would be an overwhelming amount of Catholics claiming that's not what Catholicism really is. Go figure. No one is ever wrong according to themselves. And any bad instances and experiences don't ever count.

There is a book called Catholic Roots Mormon Harvest A story of conversion and 40 comparative doctrines. I highly recommend reading it. Here is a little bit about it: Eric and his wife, Marilyn, were happy with their Catholic faith. Both rooted deep in their beloved religion, neither one dreamed that they would ever leave it. But when they moved next door to a Mormon family, their lives changed forever. This is the story of their conversion, as told by Eric, along with a respectful and enlightening comparison of 40 key doctrines between Catholicism and Mormonism that testified to them of the restoration of the gospel. Find yourself touched, challenged, and educated as you share Eric and Marilyn's journey from Catholic roots to Mormon harvest.

I'm happy to hear you got out of an abusive situation with your parents. But I'm a little confused by your story. How did you know the LDS church is true? When you talked about visiting the LDS church for the first time, it sounded like the main impression you got was that it made you feel good. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't understand how feeling good is enough to make you believe a church is true. Can you explain that a bit more?
