They absolutely write their own songs. Miyako, the pianist, is the one who writes most of their music. That was 100% English she was singing but with a strong Japanese accent. This video was copied from a DVD and uploaded by a fan which accounts for the low quality. The band is relatively new having formed in 2016. They have yet to tour in the USA which accounts for them being unknown. They won the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best new band. Midori and Miyako are one of the best metal guitar duos playing today.
Sorry mate, your remark about being unknown because they have not played the US had me creasing 🤣. You need to express yourself a tad better. They are already known to the world regardless of where they play in the world live!! The band itself is based around UK style metal and that includes the rest of europe ie Germany. Metal does not wholly centre around America in fact the ressurection of this genre and the centre of the metal world is from Japan!! Apparently most of Japanese metal is and was influenced by NWOHM not AOR from the 80's early 90's. One band from Japan called EZO in the 80's had Gene Simmons on board and in truth it never lasted, tacky I would say though bands like Judas Priest with Rob Halford were treated like Gods, not my words btw but a friend of mine who played with them!! Sorry for the rant but inferring that the US is centre of making good bands known to the world is narrow minded 😎🤟

These women are extremely talented, skillful and exceptional musicians. They really shine in their live performances. It’s rare to react to this song for the very first time. Welcome to the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. Miyako is also a professional-level classical concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude". They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. Lovebites is a great band! They remind me of the speed metal of my youth. They are incredible instrumentalists. Japan is killing it with all female Rock & Metal bands. I would like to recommend another killer called BAND-MAID they are more Hard Rock/Metal that have an incredible extensive catalog of tracks ranging from classic riff based hard rock to a more progressive slant with their current stuff. They are a special band that should not be passed on. They single-Handedly reignited the Hard Rock/Metal fire within me which I had felt has been long gone and never to return. I would recommend a track but I feel you cannot go wrong with any track. I changed my mind because they have a diverse catalog and I believe many times how someone is introduced to a band can effect their perception to go further if it is a track that may not hit the same as others do. So I will provide the road I took when introduced to this band. Yes Miyako is the main music composer, and she plays piano in 5 or 6 of their live songs , the studio stuff as well. A genius. The other girls have also studied piano too, and the singer Asami completed 16 years of ballet, so she is a great dramatic front person, and comes from an R n B background. They are headed to US Aug/ Sept and are selling out all the shows. Edge Of The World, and Break The Wall are killer live performances too.

All 5 women are classically trained pianist all 5 are composers, the one who does most of the lyrics is Asami the singer. Nightwish is not even close to their caliber as well as many bands out there, they stand alone and in a league of their own, they call themselves the Lonewolf of metal. They are in complete contrast to what the norm is in metal, the evil dark dreary side of death, they are more on the positive, uplifting and encouraging side of new metal they have created. Every one of their 70+ songs are sung and performed in English apart from 1. Asami writes lyrics, Miyako composes along with Midori and Haruna. The most talented band in the world right now. Japanese musicians are educated at a very young age as part of Japanese school curriculum then from school they are encouraged to continue to improve. May I suggest you check out Band-Maid, another all female Japanese group. Five superb musicians who collectively make one of the best and charismatic rocks bands in decades. The Maids compose their own music and lyrics and the lead and bass guitarists and drummer are geniuses. Review anything live (Domination, Dice, Freedom, Onset) or online live (Manners, Black Hole).
