I miss that old set, the times...everything back in the 1970's and 1980's. Sad times we live in...this is as close to a time machine we're gonna get. Thank you Bob for the memories.

I share your sentiments. That was when times wasn’t all that hard, and things was a little easy. Today, it’s straight up sucks. Unfortunately, we don’t have Bob Barker, or johnny olson. May both of these great gentlemen rest in peace.

I have attended three tapings of TPIR with Bob Barker. I never saw Bob leave the stage in the 75 minutes it took to tape the show. They would stop tape during the commercial breaks so the crew could set things up for the next game. It took five to seven minutes. Bob would stay out on stage and talk to the audience.
@akampfer
@akampfer 7 лет назад
I did three tapings with Bob too and he stayed on stage for the entire taping. I did go back one more time for Drew Carey and was told by people who had seen Bob near the end he was leaving the stage during the breaks and not talking that much to the audience. No one knew why, but considering the legal problems between him and former staff, he probably didn't want to talk about it.

I went to to tapings with Bob one of which was during the last month of his taping. And he did stay out on stage the entire time and answer questions. 1 marine officer asked if he could just come up and spin the wheel and Bob said yes thank you for your service you can. And then I stood up and said hey Bob how would you like to have dinner with me and my friends tonight? He very quickly replied no I can't because I have a bottle of tequila waiting for me at home. LOL classy guy

During the contestant selection, you can also see Gina Edwards-Nyman (then Gina M. Edwards) there as well helping out the process, and she's still on the show as of today (one of the remaining staff members of the Barker Era remaining). Not only that but she would sit next to the chair that had the "Right" seat to tell the contestants what to do and what not to do between each act (blue, then later green) as well as give a smile and/or wave during the opening.

How interesting, even with all of Johnny's antics and dancing about the studio; the audience was still sitting politely in their seats. Today's audience's would be jumping up and down and shouting.

I attended a taping back in 2008. I could hear everything in the studio that you hear on TV. However, it was often hard to hear the names being called by the announcer and the stuff said by the contestants over the crowd noise. They do hold up cue cards with the contestants' names when they are called. That's probably why Drew (or Bob) will repeat back a bid incorrectly, since it's hard to hear.

@AmericanPride1234 I attended a taping in April 2007. During a commercial break, someone suggested that to Bob, to which he replied, "Sure. And maybe I'll become a bodybuilder and run for governor of California". I'm sure a lot of people agree with you. Actually, there was once a showcase which centered around what things would be like if Bob were president.

These stupid contestants have no idea what they are letting themselves in for. First of all, the prizes are worthless. Who in the hell needs a "party boat," especially if you live in the middle of a city? And the cars are not worth the price of admission.! They do not come fully loaded and the contestant has to pay a 40% luxury tax on the car, not to mention the other prizes. Furthermore, the contestant has to go to the dealership to pick up the car and the dealership could be in another state, so they either have to fly or drive there. And a lot of these automobiles come with standard transmission. If you can't drive a standard transmission, you have to pay extra for an automatic transmission. And, the car you see on the showroom floor is not always the car you get when you arrive at the dealership. And who needs a trip to the Azores, or some other country that is embroiled in war? Give me a break! The contestants who win the big showcases throw themselves into a higher tax bracket. If you make $30.00.00 per year, and you win a $65,000.00 showcase, you are now in the top tier - $95,000.00 tax bracket. Not worth the trip to the studio, suckers!

Gee, Mr. Condescending Killjoy, I think your comment is worthless, what do you think of that? Do you really think you're breaking this news? The tax bite is such common knowledge it's a cliche. Also the shows generally let winners opt out of the prizes to accept something equivalent. Not sure how valid your transmission claim holds up today when the vast majority of cars are automatic. And in any event, many people become contestants just to savor the thrill of the experience and the lifetime memory they'll always enjoy.

the only time in tpir history where production is stopped to technical error instead of immediately awarding the prize, or you keep taping, so the guy who didn't have to do anything in 10 chances had all 3 prices revealed if marc breslow was directing that day, he would have stopped taping after the first one was revealed instead of awarding the contestant all 3 prizes, or the guy that pressed the red button on flip flop we would never have seen that if marc breslow was there directing, he would have stopped taping and recreated the game with the contestant flopping the 59 to 95 for 4695 i think was the price of the prize, 2 classic examples marc breslow would have screwed us out of ever knowing happened.
