The Derby lightweight and the Human boiler Pacer would be my favourites. I like the tall cab windows on the lightweight. If the room was as dark as possible, the pacer while running could look like a ghost train from a distance with the bright light.
Thanks for the comment - yeah I really like the lightweight too, just a beautiful thing really! haha yeah it does actually - I think I did film it in the dark once, lol! All the best, Sam :)
Great video mate!! Some lovely locos today, loved seeing the Virgin loco and the passenger toaster😉 as of just now your 5 off 11 thousand subscribers i believe so a very well done from me!! -all the best mate :)
Thanks so much mate, glad you liked those haha! I know - just hit that today I think, thanks for all your support - it does really mean a lot! :3 All the best, Sam :)
Brilliant running session! I'm going to do another running session soon- can you watch it when it comes out in a few days? The theme will be 'Southerners in Scotland' as there will be lots of Southern Region locos on my layout at my Holiday home in Scotland.
I love your running sessions, great to see the whole railway working! I have a suggestion-maybe a diesel shunter running session? Like class 08's and stuff? I'm a big fan of your channel :D
Hi Andrew, thanks so much - really glad you enjoy those! Yes that's a fab idea actually - I'll see if I can get some more diesel shunters! :D All the best, Sam :)
Cheers mate, I like the DMU 101 best cos I have that in n gauge as a train set. I also do love the passenger grilling Pacer, lol, especially as it's yellow.👍🚂🚃🚃🚃🚄🚅🚉😁👍
Great running session! My personal favourites are the 101, voyager and pacer. The only reason I like the pacer is because I see them regularly so it is interesting to see them in model form. Similar with the voyager
Road to 11,000 subscribers! I just ordered a Class 08 that comes with 3 wagons for £33 on amazon and it was last one! I also bought a class 43 virgin dummy for £8! Nice video and keep up the good work mate! Morgan :)
Hi Morgan - I know, that's super amazing!! That's a great price mate - very well spotted on those bargains! Thanks again for your lovely support mate, Sam :)
Sam another great diesel running session. Thought the Pacer added a great humerus touch. I could smell the burning flesh here in the US. LOL! I really enjoy your video keep it up.
hey Sam's trains thanks for answering my question about Hornby and Bachmann EZtrack. my new Hornby locomotive is Beautiful! You are my favorite youtuber because you actually respond to peoples comments. Btw, you should see about getting a Bachmann Baldwin Centipede.
Hey, no problem mate - glad I could help you out! That's fantastic, really glad you're enjoying her - that's lovely to hear, yes I do try to reply to everyone! Okay mate, I'll look at those! Thanks for the comment, Sam :)
YAY!!!!!! THE PASSANGER COOKER RETURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!! the PCDMU (PCDMU means passenger cooker DMU) is probably my favorite loco I have seen on your channel! it is in my top 5
Favorites: class 108, class 101, class 221 voyager, class 110, Darby lightweight And the pacer. And by the way you also forgot the 142 and 143 pacers. Also you should check out a br class 158, class 153 & class 155 DMU.
I prefer the early diesels to the modern ones, so you can guess I wasn't too overjoyed when the voyager appeared haha, great running session Sam, if you want a better phrase you can say you have your own model maintenance service. Keep the faith - callum
haha thanks for the comment Callum- yes she did stick out a bit, but I'm sure some people liked that one! That's a much better phrase - thanks for that!! :D All the best, Sam :)
Okay mate! I'll see if I can show that... if I dare - my wiring was very shoddy in those days, and I dare not look at some of it ;) All the best, Sam :)
My favourite was the 142 Pacer (not a 144 they look different and only had a WYPTE Metro livery and 2 had a Regional Railways livery and they all had a varient of the Northern Serco Abellio livery )
Nice selection of DMU really looked good on your layout not so sure about that pacer though !!! Will you be running a Brighton Belle sometime?? I got the Hornby one 1960 i not ran it yet it still new in the box.
Thanks Michael - haha yes the Pacer is a little over the top! I don't have a Brighton belle actually, but I would love to get one! Thanks for the comment mate, Sam :)
Hi thanks so much - glad you did! Yes I'll definitely try to review that one at some point - it will definitely get done eventually! :3 All the best, Sam :)
Yet another brilliant video I would like to see either a class 70 running or a Drs locomotive or a colas rail 60 I have never seen any of these locos running and I would absolutely love to 🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻
DMU is Diesel Multiple Unit. Varitaions: DEMU is the same but E is Electric, for the transmission type. DMMU is what the class 100-129 were, and they are diesel Mechanical multiple units. Again, the transmission type.
very nice to see some morden diesels just wondering if yuo have the green ones and the toothpaste ones they were 2 tone green light green on top darker green on the lower par, the toothpaste ones were all white but had a red n blue line going though them they were common sight in the 90's late 90's
Lovely video Sam there's something about dmu's that are much more charming. By the way i noticed you have some Metacafe and superquick kits, i just wanted your opinion on how easy they are to construct and would you recommend them also could you tell me you pro's and con's
Thanks very much mate - yes that's true, lots of them really are charming! My buildings came from Wordsworth model railway - I just printed them! I did buy a few from a model shop that had been built by a previous owner, but I'm not too sure on those! All the best, Sam :)
I don't really have a favourite DMU in general. If I did, it would be the Blue & Grey 108 DMU. I can only tolerate DMUs, but they do have a great advantage above steam engines. When riding in a DMU carriage upfront, you get a great view of the railway line ahead of you through the Driver's Cab Windows on a sunny day. However, this aside, I'll always prefer riding behind a steam engine and enjoying a footplate ride round the carriages on the Llangollen Railway.
15:41 Don't look at the light. I also had a random thought, if the inner line went over that hill between it and the other two lines on a not-very-steep grade, it's kind of mental, but I would try it.
Sam'sTrains Whilst the DMUs might make it over the hill, very few other trains will. But you could run through a tunnel; even a passing loop going through the tunnel and then rejoining the inner loop would increase the options.
6:24 do those couplers actually function to couple with other multiple unit trains? I find it odd that the Derby Lightweight was only referred to as a class 975/5, even thought they served into the TOPS era! are you ever going to do an electirc (loco and EMU) running session?
I'm not sure - it looks like you could do though, yeah - I'll see if I can plug the two ends I have together! If I ever get as many as 6 EMUs/ electric locos, then yes absolutely I will! :D All the best, Sam :)
The passenger killer/cooker and the Derby lightweight are my favourites. Sam I'm surprised it doesn't catch fire. Can I have a shoutout in the next video. Can you review the voyager
haha thanks! It's not too much of a hazard, since it's just LEDS! And yeah sure - though it won't be the next video, because I've filmed the next few already! :D All the best, Sam :)
Re colour schemes: the Small Yellow Panel (SYP) looks good on the green locos post 1959, but for my perspective DMUs look better with speed whiskers. But your DMUs look good in the blue/grey in a way that the corporate blue of the era does not enhance the locos, especially with the full yellow ends. For example, the Brighton Belle kept its crest on the front until the SYP was painted over it. Now, the new Belle can have the crest because the headlights have improved visibility over the SYP. Regards, Tom
Hi Tom, thanks very much for the comment mate - yes agreed actually, I think I prefer the speed whiskers on these to be honest. Ahh okay - I was thinking of getting a belle actually, so I'm looking forward to seeing that! All the best, Sam :)
Are there any OO gauge companies who make children line DMUs? When I was younger, I went there and instantly fell in love with those trains :) Great video, Sam!
Hey Formatrix - I have done a review on the Halls before - I think Albert Hall specifically - take a look for it on my channel! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah! Week would be okay... because I don't have enough for a whole month, lol! No I've not reviewed that yet - I need to though! :D Cheers mate, Sam :)
Another interesting fact about the pacer, it's a bus. They literally ripped the wheels off of a bus, put train wheel there instead and added another one to the back
haha thanks for putting up with those mate! Thanks very much - still got to upload my 10k special yet! ;D Ooh I'm not sure actually - I'll have to look!! Cheers, Sam :)
I have a WONDERFUL Idea! How about a running session without the lights on? You could run the Pacer and other models with bright lights and it would make a wonderfully different video.
Hi Daniel! That is a great idea actually - I've been thinking about doing that myself - I did shoot a bit of darkness in one of my upcoming reviews, so I'll see how that goes down! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I only own one DMU but I think I'm going to get the Brighton belle which is an EMU Does it get really hot in your loft with it being summer at the moment I have a voyager non tilt it is the 4 car version will you be reviewing it some time Is yours the tilting one the 221 mine is the 220 Is it the motor car on the 221 because if it is just unscrew the bogies a little bit it will add more play in the bogies IC82 has done a video on this
Ooh good choice - I'd love a belle too! :D Yes it gets pretty hot - I normally go up during the mornings, before it heats up too much! Yes it's the tilting one, and mine didn't have the same problem though - it was just de-railing on the tighter curves, so I added some weights and that helps to keep the wheels down on the track! All the best mate, Sam :)
Hi James, thanks for the comment - yes quite easily, just remove the body and insulate the small contacts that connect the chassis to the coach interiors.... they aren't hard wired, so a bit of tape would suffice! All the best, Sam :)
Sam why not change the lights in the Pacer for less output then you can call it a toaster! Not cooker. Great video, DMUs not my favourite but they all look like great runners. Derby Lightweight took the biscuit I think! All the best Stephen
haha that's not a bad idea - a toaster would be very handy up there actually! :D Glad you liked the Derby, those are my favourites too! Thanks for putting up with them, Sam :)
Hey Sam good sesh but you need to make a store and have a custom cow flatbed because I WOULD 💯 PERCENT buy that and I bet lots of others would too...lol
all your apcer infomation is kinda wrong, theirs like 4 classes of pacer, they ran through out the north, and you didnt the mention the one 144 that got super refurbished also wheres the sprinter?
Br green DMU looks like dayse from Thomas and friends 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚈🚂🚆🚇🚈🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Personally I prefer electric multiple units over diesel ones. Reasons? Not because of their looks or performance. Because for the abbreviation of the electrics is emu like the bird.
