"A Son With A Gun"... A Song & Video from the Heart of a Military Mom

So your boy tells you he's joining the military.
What goes through the mind of a mother when she hears this news?
Music is my therapy, so when my son told me he was going to become a "Soldier", I wrote this song through tearful eyes at my kitchen table.
I thought the song was too personal at first to play for anyone else, but as I played it for a few friends, it seemed to have an affect on them that moved them emotionally ... so I later decided I would record it. I placed the song on my first (and so far only) album release entitled "Along the Way" (which is available for purchase from my website at www.LindaMckenzieMusic.com)
I dedicate this song to mothers of soldiers everywhere.
I once heard a "saying" that went something like this:
"... if only mothers were allowed to officiate the world of politics, then there would be no wars" ...
I think this might be true.
I know that my mother loved me unconditionally and without her, I wouldn't know how to love anyone.
Thank you mom!
And thank you God for my son ...
and thank you God for your son ...
and thank you God for mothers everywhere (for it is they who teach children how to pass along this thing called "Love").
I thought it only fitting to place my son's real bootcamp call on the beginning and end of this song.
Please feel free to SHARE this video.
A portion of the proceeds of the sale of this song will benefit the Nashville chapter of "Blue Star Mothers of America".
The Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is a 501(c)3 Organization, a non-partisan, non-political, non-sectarian organization that does not support any political candidate or endorse any religious organization .... the U.S. military represents all aspects of America as does our organization. A "Thank You" is due to:
My military mothers! Thank all of you for your photos, your sons, your stories, your monetary contributions that helped make this video even possible! Thank you to Vinny Ribas & Donna Caldwell (of Indie Connect) for the direction on how to even go about making a video! Thank you to Jonathan Fraser (videographer a la excellent ~ you amaze me), thank you Shane Smithson (for your cooperative spirit & support), thank you Veronica Mallicoat for not only creating some really cool jewlry to match this song's title, but for being there to talk to me as a fellow military mom (Veronica generously offered a portion of her jewlry sales to Music City Blue Star Moms), thanks to Rich Miller (DJ) for encouraging me & pointing me to Tim Scott Productions (the genious on the audio), thanks to Lanell Stitt for being my first military mom (besides me) to cry as my first "test mom" to hear the song over her cell phone while driving her car.... Honestly I didn't know if I'd done something wrong when I made Lanell pull her car over in tears? Thanks to Reba Baltz (Music City Blue Star Moms) for making me feel a sense of belonging, ... one things for sure, people need other people so I thank everyone who helped encourage me to make this video come to life. I couldn't believe how much time and energy goes into the making of a video!

My son just turned 20. He joined the army right after his high school graduationand turned 18. He had never been more than 3 hours away from me until then and now he has been all over the world! This song is amazing!

I just found your video and my eyes filled with tears. I enlisted in the Marines in 1987 and my mother cried for days. She saw her friends and brothers go off to war in 1941. I lost her to cancer in 1992 and I felt a hole in my life and still do to a point. I knew she was proud of me for choice but terrified at the same time. I re-enlisted in the Army in 1996 and served 12 more years including tour in Iraq. I heard her voice countless times in combat. She was and still is my guardian angel. I know your son feels the same. Thank you for your lovely song and video.

Thank you Fred for taking the time to reply and let me know that the song moved you. Sounds like you had a great mom and a close bond ... Yes I too believe we have spirit guardians, people we have loved strongly, who watch over us beyond this physical realm in which we live. War is dangerous business, so your mom cried for fear of loosing her beloved son ... loosing the soldier, ...but in a twist of fate, you lost your mom. Most certainly it is an unfair world...but at least you had her for a time and she had you. I'm sure she loved you and was very proud of you. Thank you for your courage in stepping up to serve your country and for your honesty in professing your love and respect for your mom..

I have been listening to this every day , often more than once the last few weeks since discovering it! #armymom My son's off doing his thing in the Philippines and I've just I've been feeling extra emotional! Today I decided to check out your other music and I'm just as impressed ❤

Ah thank you Jessica. My FB page is more often updated than my youtube presence , so you could subscribe to my FB music page if you wanted to stay closer in touch (my FB page is here: facebook.com/lindamckenziefan ... when you "LIke" the page, then I think it may pop up on your news feed whenever I post new stuff) ... In trying to Keep up with social media posting, it's like a full time job ... I could be better, .... but the IRL (=in real life) stuff takes up most of my time. Anyway, God bless you and your son! I know you love him! And I surely know that emotional feeling. You start looking at every military young man like he was your own son! (or at least I did that). What would we do without our sons? On another note, musically speaking, right now I am working on a song about Chief Joseph who was the chief of the Nez Perce Indian Tribe ... my influence on this song being from spending time in Montana which is a place rich in beauty and in history. A member of the Steve Miller Band is helping me record it! Yeah, that's nuts, huh? You could follow me on Spotify if you want ... that link is here open.spotify.com/artist/4jGG1suiJdzPqFqRXLfjoW I'll say a prayer for you and your boy! You can message me on my FB page anytime ... let me know how he's doing! (and how mom's holding up!) Thank you for your son's service!

Hi Linda Mckenzie, my name is Kyndal. Hey Linda I just listened to your song. And I saw that you are a military mom and I saw that your son is in the military. I am a big fan and a big supporter and prayer warrior of the military men and women in uniform. I love to support and pray for the military men and women in uniform. I feel like that is what God has called me to do, and it's something that I love to do and it's something that is very close to my heart. Hey Linda, hope you won't mind if I ask you something. Sometime when you get to talk to your son, will you please tell him for me that I say "Thank you to him for his service" And that I appreciate all that he does for our country. And that he has my total support and that he will be in my prayers.

Hi back Kyndal. I see you have such a kind heart ... my son is now out of the military but I will tell him your gratitude still. We need praying people like you who aren't afraid to give testimony to the power prayer. Take care and thank you for commenting (and not just listening and moving along).
