Reaching the end of the Shropshire Union Canal on our electric narrowboat travels as we make our Winter Plans, we think this is one of the most stunning stretches of canal we have travelled. Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. That part of the canal system is wonderful. Every time I look at those hand dug deep deep ravines I'm gobsmacked by the sheer scale of the undertaking. Imagine countless men physically carving them out of the English landscape over years and and decades. What a testament to human ability and knowledge.

Hi Paul, Anthony and Dexter Dog, Another lovely Vlog. What beautiful scenery you are having of late. Seeing the mist rolling along on the canal must have been rather magical. Anthony, I had my heart in my mouth (Is that the correct saying) when you jumped off the canal gate-wall down onto your boat, then took a huge step up onto the opposite wall. That's not like you, or is it? Well done, as there is no way my old legs would allow me to jump that distance down, and then up on the other side. Very impressive non-the less Anthony. Nice cruise on some narrow parts of the canal, plus those nasty Bi-wash(s) that Paul had to navigate thru, which he did really well. Hope the boat was OK after striking an underwater rock. Do you think one of the plastic (can't think of their proper name) boats would have been OK too? Paul looked nacked carrying your bike up the canal bank steps. The canal was very high above land at that point. So you have bought a 2 draw Ninja. They are great. Happy cooking. Enjoyed the Vlog and all your chatter together. All the very best. Spoolbox.

Thanks Spoolbox. Loved this canal. That is the right phrase and definitely isn’t my usual lock operating but was easy enough so may start to incorporate it more often. Not sure a GRP cruiser would have been affected as their draft is not as deep as a narrowboat and they are a lot tougher than they look. Love my air fryer. Just brilliant. I’m not a camper but a good friend is and she even does winter camping when there is snow on the ground! She uses an electrically heated mattress pad and an electric blanket at night to stay nice and warm - personally I didn’t even know electric mattress pads were a thing ! She has an ecoflow battery that she reserves just for her electric mattress pad and blanket - I don’t know if this would be an idea for Anthony - wanted to mention it as it’s hard to get a good nights sleep when you are cold, and working the following day is hard because everything is when you are short on sleep

My back yard has as many greens. I have been told by visitors from Los Vegas that it hurts their eyes but now they see why I have so many greens in my pallets ( either watercolor of pencil) made for home compared to palettes made for the southwest..lol( which seems to only grayed greens .)

Oh to have that weather back. Hope the wind hasnt had too much affect on the boat or camper. Lovely scenery on the canal but so narrow in places. The water level seemed quite high as well. I love my airfryer, had for over a year and hardly use the cooker now, excellent buy Anthony. This will be your last vlog before Christmas so hope you three have a relaxing quality time whatever you are doing, much happiness for Christmas and all through 2024, love from me xxx

Happy Christmas weekend! 🎅🎄🎁 You sound like me about getting up early. I had to get up at 4:30 AM when I worked and I hate any time I have to get up early now. It ruins my entire day. 😊 From the by-wash and mud on that lovely day you must have been between storms. I read there is another one. I saw Lisa's 2nd video of Lincoln. What a great house to stay in and right in the middle of everything. I use my air fryer just about every day and couldn't live without it. I have a single basket so it is smaller. Sometimes I wish it were a bit larger but mostly it works for me. ❤Have a Happy Christmas and take care!❤

Anthony, Paul and Dexter, What an amazing cruise this week. Such narrow starting this week. I think if I were at the helm it would be like in an old pinball machine bouncing right and left. The views of along the way were fairytale like, just so much greenery. We just love your fleece jackets with your new logo, so smart looking well done. Anthony, we can see that you are slimming down, way to go! I've been suffering with plantar fasciitus for the last 4 months and have had to stop walking. Finally gotten it under control and back to my 4 mile daily walk to get rid of extra pounds. Hope you all are warm and safe. Sending holiday wishes. Hugs to all. Hey guys. Absolutely loved it. Very narrow in parts. I am sure you would cope with the steering. It is ok when you get used to it. We were blown away by the viewer who made us the fleeces. Hi … l have just found you and have watched almost all of your blogs… it was lovely to see when you were at the show some fellow bloggers l have watched before… Did you mention the cost… did l miss it…. Or did you not mention the price…. I agree with a few things you have said… my husband is not as keen as l am… We rent at the moment and l have watched quite a few tubers on how much it cost to live on a narrowboat but we will only have a state pension when we retire so we would never be able to do this… But l will watch yours and other bloggers and live the dream through you xx

Welcome to the channel Debra. I am glad you found us. We absolutely love our life aboard and have made so many lovely friends. We have a great time at the boat show and so good catching up with fellow vloggers. Yeah, you are right, you both have to want to do it or it just doesn’t work so renting is a good compromise. We never mentioned the price of the boat because it will vary dependent on fit out and we didn’t want people to be saying to Oakums that our boat cost such and such. We have been on the water for just over 3 years now. Enjoy the canal holidays and who knows, we may even see you out on the cut xx

Hey Carol. I work 2 days a week and fortunately they are consecutive. I sleep in the van if we are over an hour away. Go on the Tuesday and return Thursday. Happy holidays ❤️

Question. Is it compulsory to Moore up over winter or is it possible to keep going thru winter on the cut. What are the permissions to travel . Xx

Hey Tazmin. You don’t have to moor up, in fact, we continually cruise through winter. Many of the restricted mooring such as 48 hours turn into 2 week moorings unless it says “all year round” you have to move every 2 weeks otherwise unless you pay for a winter mooring. Good question.
