A three-piece collection of Rolex Watches headlines today’s episode of “Weekend Watches!” WatchBox’s Tim Mosso shares stainless steel Rolex sports and dress watches as an opener for a feature packed with high horology, independent watch brands, and marquee models from the mainstream best watch brands.
The Rolex Submariner is an institution in the watch collector community, but steel-gold two tone models remain underrated and surprisingly accessible. This Submariner 116613 includes the well-known Rolex “super case” and hardware in a combination of 18-karat yellow gold and 904L stainless steel. The 300-meter dive watch incorporates a unidirectional bezel with a ceramic insert and a convenience “Glidelock” diving clasp extension for use over a wet suit or dry suit. Inside, a manufacture caliber 3135 automatic movement keeps the beat with a COSC Swiss chronometer certification; all three Rolex models on today’s show are chronometers.
Hardcore diving enthusiasts or dive watch devotees can step up to the 44mm Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller, a 3,900-meter diving watch with Rolex’s most advanced submersible technology. The “Ring Lock” case construction includes a 5.9mm thick sapphire crystal, a titanium caseback, and factory-validated resistance to a tested depth of 125 percent of the 12,800 feet promised on the dial. The Submariner’s Glidelock clasp extension receives an upgrade on the Deepsea; a “trap door” on the clasp allows adjustment while the watch remains secure on the wrist. For those who require more than 20mm of extension, a fold-out “Fliplock” extension doubles the amount of spare slack for use over diving suits. An upgraded Rolex caliber 3235 offers 70-hours of power reserve.
Finally, watch collectors with a taste for tradition will appreciate our Rolex Datejust 36mm in stainless steel and white gold. The fluted precious metal bezel rings a metallic blue sunburst dial with applied luminescent hour indices. A “roulette” date wheel with red odd dates and black even dates is included. In contrast to the two sports watches, this Datejust 116234 includes a five-link Rolex Jubilee bracelet with the low-profile Crown Clasp. As with the Submariner, this Datejust employs Rolex automatic caliber 3135.
