The people complaining about the cages being horrible and the conditions being horrible... Do you know what they do in factory's? The ones that just happen to put food on your table? If you knew you would call these cages the greatest ever. In factory's their treated horribly with little food or water. The only time their held is when their about to be slaughtered. So this guy is doing a good thing providing good meat without the chem. he's caring for his rabbits before their slaughtered at least. So don't talk shit about the cages or how their treated thank you :)
Justifying bad treatment by someone else's worse treatment. Well, child abusers are fine, at least that just abuse the children, don't rape them too. And animal abusers are fine, at least they let them live. Give me a break. These cages are too small, wire bottom, and just cruel. Factory farms are much worse, but that doesn't make this ''great'' it just makes it less shitty.
I hate the rabbits for meat business a lot (B/c I LOVE BUNNIES) but from what I see, those rabbits are relatively happy. Honestly, as long as their lives are happy, I have no problem with it. Good jo!
TA - your herd great sire is Flemish gaint. His color is chinchilla .. he is not checker gaint I us raise checker gaints and flemish giants they both show breeds ..
I haven't built my cages yet but I'm debating between drop in and drop down nest boxes- which did you prefer the most? Right now I'm leaning towards drop down, but if they are a lot more work, I'm OK with the drop ins.
Trainition AZ the last buck show this video is light gray flemish gaint not checker gaint don't know tell you he was but sadly mix up.. breeds of rabbits you look it up on arba breed club link if need see it for your self ..
did you build the cages with the drop down bunny bix or did you buy them? I am thinking on getting a breeding trio or quad and wondered if you might share the building plans for them
What a great video. Your rabbits look happy, healthy, and well taken care of. I've recently begun to breed rabbits for meat. I actually used to breed and show chinchillas, so I was happy to see one of those guys, too. Is your rabbitry air conditioned?
Great video! I am REALLY interested in learning how to construct one of those drop down nesting boxes and incorporate it into my wire cages. I am gathering supplies now to start a small rabbitry. Any tips you want to share? Thanks for sharing.
Hi Tom, Thanks for the add. We have had good luck with the drop down nest boxes. The babies stay there until they are big enough to hop out on their own. We have since replaced those cages, however, because they take too much space. We love them for all other aspects, just take a lot of room in the rabbitry. Scott
i raise meat rabbits and am building cages right now so im always looking for ideas and i love the idea of the drop down nest boxes and was wondering how big they are and how well they work. like how they babies get out of the boxes etc. thanks Tom Brunell
getting ready to build my rabbitry and i never thought about the drop down nesting box. it is more natural and it adds to cage space because it is below. genius. Thanks
Nice rabbitry! I like those lower level nesting boxes but agree on your comments that it consumes a lot of room. Still tho, I might have to keep that in mind for something later, going to make up some of those hay bins right now for my rabbits!
***** No, I'm not going to put in plywood, they'll eat it, and it's held together with glue which is not ideal for them to digest. No, I'm not going to put in linoleum, they'll eat it and its made of God only knows what chemicals and is not ideal for them to digest. It seems like you don't really don't know that much about raising rabbits, please stop giving really horrible advice. They don't "need a lot of space" and they are just fine with the wire cages. They usually sprawl out on the wire floor, not the ceramic tile they have available to protect their feet that you have incorrectly assumed are so fragile.
NO! Do NOT 2 females in a single hutch! They will fight. You can spay them, and go through a long bonding process to make it possible, but don't just throw to random does together
They would be fine if they were raised together. Once you start breeding them, they more than likely will hate each other from then on. I keep 2 sisters regularly until I breed.
these cages are too small for rabbits they are just terrible and the grits will hurt the feets...how can you just do that? i can't understand how you can not see that...
WOW! this is a very nice setup and rabbitry i love how you have light coming in and the drop down nestboxes hoping to investin some! I love how you keep it clean too! I just love this video overall. very very nice! thumbs up from me for sure!:)
Adam is a pedigreed Flemish Giant who has won ribbons (prior owner). We don't show him. The previous owner stopped showing him because he was a bit timid and so was retired. Also, check out the research being done the Australian group CSIRO with their Crusader breeding programs. They breed giant breeds with meet breeds for a hybrid vigor.
If you clean the cage frequent enough/get rid of their pee and poop, etc... They stay healthy... Common sense. Please let me know how much it would be to adopt every single suffering bunny of yours? Thanks!!-Sincerely, person who CARES about bunnies :)
I think it is a serious shame that you have let the haters beat you down. Every time someone like you succumbs to negative comments and just gives up just makes it harder on those of us that are trying to raise meat rabbits. You need to learn to stand up for yourself and believe in what you are doing.... In all things in life. Yes, there will be people that disagree with what you are doing but no matter what you do in life you can never please everyone so why try? Just do what you feel is right for you, believe in it and do it to the best of your ability. I came to your channel hoping to buy some meat rabbits from you.
not all rabbits need huge 10x10 cages if you are breeding rabbits you tend to use smaller cages for space these cages are perfectly big enough for the rabbits also the wire will not hurt there feet, rabbits can go on wire you just have to watch to make sure that they ont get sore hocks and these types of rabbits have thicker fur on their feet to help prevent sore hocks its rabbits like mini rexes(thin fur in feet) that you have to watch out for.
I guess this is also a matter of an opinion all my rabbits have resting pads and stuff like that to prevent anything also my rabbit are taken out daily to exercise, but for me and my personal liking i prefer the smaller cages and my rabbits at least like them to because its there own personal space but im glad you have big cages sometimes depending on the rabbits they like a little more space to roam:) (also adding on haha you have to watch out or rusty cages those will hurt there feet)
your rabbits look healthy and I'm sure you care good for them but this is are terrible cages! Maybe it's normal for you guys in the US or wherever but for us here, cages like these are not allowed!! And I'm happy with that!
Don't advertise the word "pets" Just leave that word out and people will just ask. Watch out....the petards come acting as customers but try to get the County Animal Control involved before its all over.....I'm sure you know that.....
We will do an update within the week. Thanks for the comments. We liked your video. We stopped breeding pet rabbits because people flagged us, repeatedly, off of Craigslist.
Unlimited pellets because it says that we can free feed with no need for hay, but preffer to give them the choice. Better temperments IMO. Mine are picky little buggers lol.
Adam looks a lil like a Giant Chinchilla, flemish giants dont come in the color chinchilla, just a lil fyi :) Also when giant breeds are added to meat breeds like californian and new zealand the kits grow more slowly and have a higher bone ratio than meat breeds, so you are actualy useing more feed to make less meat , not trying to knock your bunnies !!! They all look very nice and happy :)
Uh, wire is TERRIBLE!!! Rabbits have very tender feet and wire can be very painful!!!! Maybe YOU should think before commenting something like that! And BTW spell check and you know you're stands for you are, right?:)
I'm sorry you had to stop breeding pets :( Some people just don't understand, what's worse is that they won't even try. Anyway, happy to know you still contiue your rabbitry. I just recently started with two meat pairs and a pet pair. Anyway, I was wondering how you keep your cost down, if you don't mind sharing. We limit veggies now because prices have gone way up. Mostly cilantro and curley now, but it's their favorite :) we give unlimited hay and pellets.
nice video I love your video lol. and it doesnt matter if you breed pet rabbits and have meat rabbits in your colony. i raise purebred flemish giants as pets and some to feed to my red nose pit bull. but they are humanly treated and put down. but some people just like to say what they think is what should be done. but i love your video nice job with the video. I have 1 pure bred checkered giant with 5 babies of flemish/checkered cross she had 8 but 2 died 1 was sold for snake food. but the rest
But wire cages are fine for rabbits as long as the rabbits have adequate fur padding, and are a requirement even for the angora breeds or the feces will get matted into their fur and the maggots will move in and you will get a number of lovelies such as infection and maggots burrowing into the skin etc... This guy also gives more than enough room for the rabbits, some cages are meant only for small breeds but people stick medium breeds in them.
are sleeping healthy in the nest boxs. and i know i am going to get yelled at for selling them for snake food but hey snake's have to eat to but I love your video and please do another update of your rabbits please. thank you. I also have the daughter of the pure bred checkered giant she is cross of flemish/checkered giant she looks more like her father but also like her mother. she is way bigger then momma because her father was a 23lb purebred flemish giant. and momma only weighs around
ethically speaking, if animals are treated fairly and not subjected to unnecessary stress or pain and as long as they are killed painlessly and quickly then only a vegetarian can object. the wire floors is a real concern, arizona. could you please consider an intermediate material placed on top the wire floor that can replaced cheaply & easily? perhaps a few strips of cardboard ? rabbits are sensitive (we have a pet dwarf),please don't slaughter where other rabbits can see it. thanks 4 kindness
Wow the nest box idea is great! Also sorry to hear about the Craigslist "fun", I hate those people. :\ If they get your address they'll even threaten you with it, just horrible people.
Hello? The f ing USDA and Animal Warfare dept BOTH recommend wire floor cage! But you're rabbit dorks never read about Animal Warfare Standards based on real experience from real rabbit raisers... So.....ya. Read the regs.
I have mixed opinions on this... I don't like how they are in cages as rabbits should not be kept in those although this is one if the cleanest rabbitorys I have seen.
How are they horrible? Because they are all wire? Rabbits have thick fur padding on their feet that allows them to be on wire, animals like guinea pigs have no fur on their feet so they will get bumble foot, and certain breeds of rabbits such as the giant breeds either need solid floored hutches or reinforced wire as regular wire will hurt their feet, but having multiple rabbits in solid floored hutches is bad. It would need daily cleaning or the rabbits would get too dirty and stinky.
+Erika Rabbits do not develop Sores from sitting on Wire floors, They do however develop Sores from sitting in Solid bottom cages, Forced to sit in their own urine and feces!
Rabbits have NO padding on their feet, only fur and wire floors can cause painful sore hocks on their feet. You obviously know nothing about rabbit welfare. Wire floors are easier for YOU (cleaning), not for the animal
