@@TheSpaniardAssassin honestly I don't think it is good idea from pov not only a developer but also a player. Players don't like being forced to play only in 1 way. Game with such a "controversial" requirement would be probably very niche and not very appealing for wider playerbase, which means developer won't make as much money as if they made game with many ways to play it. Imo better move would be adding game mode that loads ur last save after killing some1, or trophy(as in DIshonored) for completing it without killing anybody and being seen.

Thank you so much for posting about ghosting so regularly! Hopefully Ubi makes a game where you are actually rewarded for leaving non-targets alive. I am a long time ghost practitioner, always have been, and always look forward to you talking about it. Other than that, my favourite AC games to do ghosting are mostly for Narrative reasons. 1. Mirage: I think Basim as a character is a very noble and thoughtful person when it comes to killing people. Also, Mirage do not reward any xp for killing guards. I also love the fact that there is no knockout, guards remaining untouched is the perfect way to ghost for me. 2. Origins: Again for narrative reasons. Also the level design is phenomenal and really encourages for ghost stealth. 3. Syndicate: The mission design is excellent for ghosting and is really enjoyable, although I don't think either of the twins would care about killing folks. 4. AC1 of coursee, I have done ghosting with Ezio too, but not for the most part. 5. I cannot enjoy pure ghosting with Arno, it takes me out of the experience. I still try to kill as few guards as I could, but Ghosting and Arno for me don't go much hand in hand. 6. I completely and intentionally assassinate everyone in Odyssey just because it hugee amount of xp with streaks :)

I think the Syndicate twins wouldn't mind killing a guard if it is necessary but I think they would rather not. Both of them are very skilled field assassins, therefore they were trained to not go out killing everyone just for the sake of it. I ghost through most of that game everytime I play it, only excusing the templar NPC kills (some places have more than one templar NPC, so for a narrative reason I don't think is inaccurate to kill them).
@HistorianOfVaelris

I’d say the ghosting play style fits the least with Odyssey and Valhalla. Alexios/Kassandra are more Spartan mercenaries than Assassins, so it makes sense they wouldn’t have qualms about killing (especially against the warriors of the cult responsible for tearing their family apart). Likewise, Eivor is Viking first, Hidden One second. Also, the sheer length of these two games acts as a deterrent against the methodical, meticulous, pacifist stealth playstyle. As for AC 3, ghosting makes sense during some segments more than others (Connor, as an ally to the revolutionaries, would likely try to avoid unnecessary guard killing in American-controlled areas but not in British-controlled areas).

Assassinating enemies in these games is really fun but I think in a narrative perspective a more ghost stealth approach should be implemented by ubisoft or even let ubisoft add consequences (like dishonored as you mentioned) to your actions like killing would make the game more immersive as an assassin and make more sense lore wise. I mean most people you assassinate are guards working minimum wage making money for their families 💀

You know, I never played any of the Assassin's Creed games, but I will say that a game you'd really appreciate and that anyone who calls themselves a fan of stealth games *needs* to try. It's the Styx: Master of Shadows and Styx: Shards of Darkness games. They're not perfect games, but they damn good stealth games that make ghosting a main way to play the game.
@bloodymares

For me AC1 still counts, becauae once you're being discovered it's even more impressive. Like "how did that dude kill our man and nobody noticed him come?!". Then you just use parkour to escape, basically saying to everyone "I only kill bad people. Don't be like my victim or you're next". However, the only exception to this is probably the fight in Arsuf where you cannot progress until you clear the area of enemies and then also Masyaf where lots of fights are scripted. But when it comes to main targets, it's totally possible to kill only them and nobody else, even during open combat / chase.

This right here is what I like most about ac1. The capital A Assassins are based on the soldiers of a real nation based in castles spread throughout the Levant. These soldiers were almost always spotted after hitting their mark, so they only had one shot to kill one man. They did hide in plain sight and stay their blades until the time was right when they would use a dagger or poisoned arrow to kill a powerful figure. It’s a damn shame that Assassins creed today has strayed so far from that historical accuracy.
@MyOwnNameWasTaken
@MyOwnNameWasTaken 2 месяца назад
You're not wrong, but the historical Assassins were feared to such an extent that a corruption of their enemies' insulting nickname for them became the word for "political killer" in, what, every language in Europe? not because they were uncatchable, but because their strikes almost always resulted in their deaths--and they did it anyway. But that's not sustainable in a video game, as you couldn't develop a storyline if you played 9 characters for only one mission each. Therefore, while Altair usually strikes in the open to send a terror message, he then manages to escape, which in real life would be next to impossible. In the continuity of the AC games, then, it does make sense that most assassins would ghost to maximise their survival chances, as they were not expected to martyr themselves.
@matthewkendrick8280
@matthewkendrick8280 2 месяца назад
@@MyOwnNameWasTaken Pierre Bellec actually makes a remark about that. He tells Arno to complete the mission by any means necessary and Arno says “As I’m cut down where I stand?” Bellec replies “that was the Levantine way, before Altaïr.”

My favorite game for ghosting is Aragami and Aragami 2, the first is a true ghosting experience as detection normally means death and there is no way to knock out enemies so if you’re going to kill only the required target you have to keep everyone alive and watching. It is easier to ghost than any AC because you can move to areas a lot easier but being extremely limited on your abilities that help you to remain unseen (3 abilities 2 charges each and usually only 1 to two places which restore those charges per mission) do add a unique challenge. The second game does add the ability to knock foes out and more tools to remove enemies non lethally making it much easier but it’s still rewarding nonetheless.

Yes I believe Ghost Stealth is canon✨ because it upholds the tenets of the creed But I found the ghost stealth play style in the Ezio trilogy frustrating because the level design often forces non-target kills, making it feel like I'm treating guards as target dummies. It's called a Ghost playstyle because you're supposed to be like a ghost, completing the mission and leaving it as if you were never there. That means leaving no trace of your path (except those mandated by your objective i.e. assassinating a target or stealing an item), and by definition choking someone out wouldn't be an option. It's not purist to say that just objectively doesn't make it a ghost run anymore. That just makes it a simple non-lethal run, which is its own thing. Ghosting isn't about lethality, it's about 0 suspicion.

Honestly I wish more stealth games didn't actively _punish_ you for being non-lethal. In some games guards will wake up after a while if you choke them out, or choking them out will take much longer than killing them, all your ranged options are lethal, it's very easy to accidentally kill someone, etc. Hitman at least punishes you for killing people you shouldn't, but with games like Dishonoured (Specifically 2, as I haven't played the first one) non-lethal is just objectively harder and the only reward is a different ending. I'm aware that higher chaos means more guards and rats, but that isn't a problem when you can efficiently kill them and move on (Hell, speaking of rats, they can be actively useful since they devour bodies. Which is another thing that makes non-lethal harder)

This is why playing as an assassin didn’t make much sense to me since ubisoft made every game so hard to ghost through. You have to clear the enemies to advance to your target.

This is why better reputation mechanics are a good way to offset powerful playable characters. Being able to ghost in a game and strike fear into the enemy in a way that has mechanical benefits is a great to justify having OP Assassins Can you massacre hundreds of guards? Yes Should you do it? No. Because it compromises the brotherhood and would make things a hassle to the player in other meaningful ways Metal Gear Solid V and Hitman: Blood Money were effective in encouraging players to be as discreet and clean as possible. Its baffling how Assassin's creed with all its social stealth elements and traversal choices, chose not to go this route

I do this in Splintercell, but AC, for me, is too clumsy. The assassins either stand oddly or move far too fast for my ability when it comes to these rules. Not to mention NPC awareness like Mirage where I was spotted thru walls. I prefer characters who do this, so I'd love a more stealth based AC game but as of right now, I won't be doing so in any ACs but I will in other franchises.

I didn't even know this was an concept people do. But it's funny on my last skyrim play through I wanted to play stealth but I didn't want to kill everyone. So I made it so if had a bounty or retrieve an item quest, I would only kill my target or not kill anyone and just retrieve the item. It definitely made the gameplay more interesting and fun. I also did it because I wanted outlaws and such to fear/dread my character, knowing that they could be killed anytime and not see it coming.

Most likely unrelated to the video at all but if you are familiar to the fate series, you would remember the servant class and how it was only made up of the hasan assassin clan members(with some exceptions), well on day i decided to really dig into my brain and think a bit, an assassin would never be famous because the only people who knows who they killed is themselves and the person they killed, now that isnt to say there name couldn't be just thrown onto the murder case, but a true assassin wouldn't even have a name to go by. Take jack the ripper(a little girl in the fate anime if i remember correctly) is only know by a name given to him(real life) by the public, in all meaning of the word he truly was a assassin, he struck, he killed, and he left all without anybody beside his victim knowing he was there. But even then he wasnt the best assassin. Why? He was known duh Jack was a good, murder/assassin but was still know, so what about someone who isnt know, but still an assassin, then you get nobody. And thats the problem with finding assassin that are truly assassin, there in, there out, and the person they saw is dead sometimes without even knowing the assassin was there. But you can be famous or infamous if your unknown, truly unknown. You can hide your face, voice, and everything about you but you still leave something behind Now why am i talking about this on a video i didnt even watch(yet ill watch later seem interesting). Well the same reason you even seening this message being interested by the topic even if you dont understand cuz to be fr i aint even talk about the throne of heros the main reason you need to be famous in the first place.

I'm actually enjoying the idea of ghosting but it is difficult. I've watched some videos on RU-vid of people ghosting in AC Mirage but it all looks to be very choreographed and it's obvious that a great amount of trial and error has gone into it. I would be very interested in watching videos of people onsighting missions with a ghosting strategy and seeing how they get on and how they would approach each mission.

Alot of the times this is my preferred playstyle. I've done this a couple of times throughout various games and it just feels so rewarding not only in a game sense but in my mind too, like i always feel so badass. I also don't like when stealth games forced you to kill someone. I'd say the only times i actually wanted to kill is when i wanted to see the character's sick animations and just that

while I believe that ghosting is the 'canonical' way to play AC, I don't think that AC as a series was designed to be played as a ghost. for instance, I'm in my 3rd Dishonored run atm, this time playing ghost clean-hands, and it's just so obvious how this game was fine-tuned to allow this playstyle to be played. also, in AC, I also get a feeling that all the enemies are actually evil. for instance, in Unity you can constantly see guards harassing the common people and every once in a while actually killing them. it's not like in Dishonored, where you get the feeling that the guards are innocent amidst a huge political conspiration which they don't understand at all, all of this while thinking that it was you who killed the Empress

Assassins Creed isn’t dishonoured where ghosting and killing people actually have an effect on the story. Idk why you insist on making it a thing in assassins creed. In assassins creed anyone can be a target because the guards are always oppressive. Why do you think some assassins have double hidden blades and can do multi kills. It’s because they’re lethal killers that don’t just assassinate their main targets. Assassins don’t ghost. Technically ghosting is not killing anyone including the targets. It’s also not a tenant so this “A true assassin only kills his targets” is bullshit.

I play AC in a way i personally think is unique and i havent seen people talk about. I dont do full ghosting where i do every mission not killing anyone. If the mission isnt an assassination mission i try and get the flashiest stealth kills i can to get through without ever being fully detected. If it is an assassination i try my hardest not to get detected and to not incapacitate any guards and go for the unique kill if possible

I’m pretty sure the games do a lot to show the guards and foot-soldiers are indeed not innocent. Regardless of them being arms of an oppressive state, the game literally desynchronizes you if you kill too many innocents. That right there is the devs saying guards are not innocent The order of assassins would never consider those that arm themselves against their own people to be innocent, because the order exists in part to fight against those individuals
