Your watercolor pencil videos are my favorites!! No one else does videos on this technique for watercolor pencil in all of RU-vid-dom… at least none than I’ve been able to find anyway (And I have searched!). I also love your book, and the videos I have purchased from you on watercolor pencils. You make them so fun, and inspiring to use. Thank you, thank you for taking the time to create, record, edit and upload this! This has made my day and I will enjoy watching it over and over.
Great to see an established artist showing just how good watercolour pencils can be. I do think that watercolour pencils have a charm of their own which this great little painting demonstrates so well. I still refer to the book you did on the subject and still have the videos that you had some time ago where a young dashing Charles roamed the countryside doing watercolour pencil sketchbook paintings including the stunning Warkworth Castle. I must admit that I use water brushes with these pencils and, as you say, you need so little to use them and are an ideal painting travel set that can fit in a small shoulder bag with everything you need.
I actually find the noise the pencil makes on the paper very soothing...lol Gorgeous painting. I've got watercolour pencils, I really must try them again. Thank you Charles for spurring me on!
Good to see you back on RU-vid again. Great painting, its amazing what you can do with water colour pencils. Thanks for the tutorial, please keep them coming.
I find the sound of the pencils on the paper relaxing. To each their own, I guess. Wonderful video. I've already tried it once with my Lyra pencils and will have another go in a day or two.
Thank you so much for this! I tried my first watercolor pencil landscape from this video and was shocked at how well it turned out. You're a fabulous teacher! 😊
That's my favorite subject to draw/paint!!!! These kind of landscapes out in the country, where only a small amount of buildings are on the frame,,are so beautiful!!! I'll paint the same, trying my new supplies!! Thanks for sharing!!!
So love that you’re using watercolor pencils, please keep doing these as some of us really need them! ❤❤❤ Plus, I so love that I’m not the only artistic mad person who wipes my brushes on my shirt. 😹
@NLSmith My son gave me an artist apron for Christmas… it has lots of pockets and I wear it whenever and wherever I sketch. I enjoy being able to wipe my brushes on it and it saves my clothes 👍
@@WendiWells what a wonderful gift. I just buy those packs of men’s T-shirts, the big ones, and then I just wipe on my shirt all day long. At the end it’s a messy masterpiece that goes in the garbage. 😇
when you draw the sceene or whatever it really helps me with my drawing, thank you so much. i so need to practice my drawing skills so i can paint much better. love learning from you 😍
I love the tip about getting the sketch down on paper with the option to do the painting later. So helpful to a cycle tourist - you can get a quick sketch done when the weather might turn and you can finish the painting later from the warmth of a dry tent! Thanks for sharing.
Nice one, Charlie. Love the simplicity of the watercolour pencils. On the point you mentioned about the noise on the paper - really made me smile. Being on the deaf side, I always have the closed caption subtitles on and the noise really confuses them. it comes up as 'foreign', laughter, applause - all sorts of things except 'pencil scratching on paper!
i love this painting its delightful, ive just reclaimed my watercolour pencils from the back of a cupboard and started using them again i'd forgotten what fun they are. This particular painting reminds me of a video I had that got me started many years ago, by John R Hughes, now sadly deceased. Ive always struggled with skies until I saw this, it never dawned on me to take the paint off the pencil then apply it to the paper I just got lines in my sky but not now, thankyou!
I’m new to your site. I found your lesson very helpful. I was given a set of watercolor pencils and using your simple methods I am creating very lovely art. My Son who gave them to me as a gift will be happy to know they are making beautiful colors on my are work. I will be tuning in often. Thank you!!!!
Love this one Charles, been experimenting with watercolour pencils for sketching, you make it look so easy. Well worth a gin on the bar at Chateau Quesmy, very much looking forward to meeting you in person in June.
Fantastic to watch, Charles. I've watched it through several times and watched your painting come to life. You got a great way with you how you come across to the viewers, you encourage people to have a go at painting. Love these water colour pencils, just bought some second hand pencils off ebay. So looking forward to using them. Keep up your fantastic paintings and tutorials. All the best.
Very nice! I love watercolour pencils. Now here is a tip for all the lazy people who aren''t artists like you: I take a photograph of my favorite subject, crop it, convert it to black and white and tweek it in post till I can barely see the outlines. I then print it out on watercolour paper with my b/w laser printer (toner is waterreistant) and then I colour it with water colour pencils. Perhaps not art (if photography isn't an art) but amazing results. I get the best results when using a camera that is converted to infrared (it turns all greenery into white), but have done this process before I had this camera.
"But..but, dahling...the scratching of the pencils...I can't stand it". Hahahahahaa..hat gave me such a laugh this bright and early morning. Probably the best laugh I'll have all day! Lovely picture again..as usual. Best wishes..David.
Thank you Charles, I’m always inspired by your tutorials and you are so easy to listen to. I find wc pencils very challenging but love them nonetheless. Your book ‘Quick and Clever Watercolour Pencils is also excellent and easy to follow. Thank you again x
Greatly appreciate Charles your brilliant video of creating a painting using watercolour pencils, amazing result and explained with detail how to get the colours right. I have seen you before doing a scene similar but would like to know how you've drawn the buildings in perfect position and scale of the area available , I understand you have done it many times and your talent is inspirational.
awesome work as usual I have watched and have had tutoring from you at the art show years ago at the NEC exhibition centre and it was just me and my brother in law and since then I have followed your work with great interest and have learned so much from yourself over the years so thank you very much, Charles, from john from Rugby UK.
Thank you for your time and art that you give to others. I'm looking at painting and right now I'm going to paint too! It always looks so beautiful and simple from you :). Thanks!!! PS: sorry - google translate
Great results. I don’t seem to do as well with watercolour pencils, but I have a cheap WHSmiths set and wonder if that is the problem. ( Unless it’s a poor workman blaming his tools 😉).
this is brilliant,Love watching your watercolour pencil demonstrations.and i have these LYRA pencils in my drawer never used but i will today, was thinking why don't you wipe the wet pencils on a tissue.lol cheers.from Ireland.
Had a go with this one, but my pencils are DR's that I bought years ago and are still very much unused. The colours are different of course, I have leaf green, vivid green and your favourite, Hookers green. However, I managed, but not too pleased. Will try again. It was on Langton rough though - from you! Thanks.
It' would also make a great sketch, with Dark Sepia pencil!! I've been in love with Kohinoor Red Chalk and Dark Sepia, for a long time!!! It's like I've been married lol Watercolors are my
Charles when doing watercolor do you put fresh paint out of the tube in your palette each time or do you just add water to the wells to activate the dry paint?
Hi Charles, I'm Italian and I have a lot of admiration for your wonderful work, I wanted to kindly ask you if you could tell me what is the substantial difference between watercolour pencils and classic watercolours in godet or tube? It seems to me that watercolour pencils require more time and patience, while watercolour in godet is faster to apply. But then why buy pencils? Here ... I hope I have explained myself well, I would like to know how you think about it .... thank you very much, with sympathy, Beatrice
Une chaîne très belle, utile, merveilleuse et attrayante. Dessin très cool. Bravo. Que Dieu augmente votre talent et votre activité. Je vous souhaite du succès et un succès durable Merci pour cette magnifique vidéo. 🙏 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🏆🏆🏆🎁🎁🎁🌄🌄🌄💯💯💯
Oh charles, really…..cant stand the sound of the pencil on the paper 🫣🫣🫣…….that was a beautiful painting, thank you…..gail did you drop the camera somewhere in the middle? Went all funny…..much love to you both and thank you once again
As a matter of interest, it’s clearly not necessary to be pedantic about the little areas of white that miss out on paint? Like under a barn or amongst a tree?
