Is dressing in traditional clothes a conservative way of life? No, not at all. Even if I wear a kimono or not, I always want to make my own life decisions. I feel best when I wear a kimono and I love myself in a kimono. My grandfather was in the kimono industry and I grew up surrounded by kimonos from a young age. When I was a teenager, I spent six years as a maiko geiko, wearing a kimono every day. Kimonos are part of my identity. I just wear what I like.
Traditions will be lost if we don’t pass them on. I want to fuse kimonos with stories, made by traditional methods, with modern life.

When moe said that hopefully one day, she'll be able to hand down her kimonos to suchan, it hit me hard on how lucky suchan is to have plenty videos of her mum on youtube, that even if one day moe can no longer be with her, she can always look back at how her mum raised her since she was her baby, and that's just so beautiful to me. I wish I had this many recordings of my parents too😢

Also, not just how Sutan was raised but how very clearly both of her parents love her, each other, their family and friends and life in general. Truly a wonderful family. As soon as I saw the title, I knew I had to click. Moe-san, you are such a breath of fresh air. I totally agree with you about the difference between dressing traditionally and preserving your culture, and being conservative and trapped in the past! You and your husband have such a refreshing relationship, and you are raising your daughter to be a confident, bright, intelligent, and caring young woman. It's truly so beautiful to see.

I love that in Japan you can wear a style of clothing that was developed hundreds of years ago and people won't think you're crazy. There are not many places in the world where people can do that in their daily life, and I think it's a beautiful tribute and shows real respect and connection to your culture, history, and traditions. I can only imagine how that must feel, since it clearly makes you feel like the best version of yourself. Thanks for sharing this with us.

It is done in the Netherlands in some places (not the big vcities) but only on certain occassions, and not many young people do it. Look up: Klederdracht. You can tell the province, and enough can tell the exact town, though some really stand out and everyone can tell, such as: Urk, Staphorst, Volendam. You can often also tell protestant from cahtolic.

Moe-san has her own brand, is a talented and autenthic youtuber, forms a beautiful and nurturing partnership with both her daughter and husband, travel around the world with her family to promote her work : Moe is not a trad-wife at all ! She's a respected buisness woman, and a beloved wife and mother. She's so far away from those fake influencers lying about the realities of a mother's and wife's everyday life. That's why you're so popular Moe-san : because you're genuine person, and your love for your work and your family is real ! Pure feel-good content you're feeding us with, for years ! Ikr, much better than tradwife influencer who told women to submit to their husband, become stay at home mom while posting aesthetic cooking video with beige clothing (link below to their merch store). Most of their viewers are too ignorant how much money these tradwife influencer makes. IMHO trad wife influencer is almost on par with fake "natural" bodybuilder influencer, selling supplement or ebook to their viewers.

I've followed you since you started and it's because you're NOT a "tradwife". I can't believe people miss how forward, progressive and intelligent you are. First of all, no real "tradwife" would have a RU-vid channel. No matter what they claim to be, it goes against traditional values and those creators are just putting on an act to be provocative and show themselves off. Moe, you're showing the opposite of what they are. You're not preaching about how a "wife and mother" should be or saying that women should stay in the kitchen. You're always just sharing your lessons in life, how you reflect, how you tried to find value in staying at home because you needed MORE. It wasn't enough for you and you were honest about that. We saw you growing into loving it. You're a philosopher and you ball idea's with us instead of preaching. You're an inspiration to men as well as women.

It is a gift to focus on Moe-san's kimono selections. Moe-san has developed a delicate sensibility in her kimono appearances. Perhaps initiated by her Maiko experiences? From designing some of my own clothing and selecting the fabrics I have discovered that by far the most subtle and sophisticated fabrics in the world evolved in Nihon. Africa evolved the most dramatic and energetic from tribal identification designs. Other fabrics fall somewhere along this continuum. The ageless joy is viewing fabric art surprises. Moe-san is unique and her partnership with Moto-san is hoped to be an influence upon their national peers.

Moe-san really inspires me everyday and whenever I feel stressed out, I just love to watch her videos!! Keep up the good work Moe-san!

Moe also has a supportive husband that shares the house work and caretaking with her. At first I thought like you, since I'm also working, but the reality is after I've seen from my friends' experience doing both is really difficult and you have to compromise with something, (like hiring a caretaker or asking family's help, or in Moe's case sharing the load with her husband). Ir is something that have to be talked about with family. I hope in the future you have a spouse or support system that enables or ease you to do so ! Me personally I enjoy working and achieve something, but I also wants to raise children and raise them well. And I've learned how crucial their growth in the early years. If i have to reduce some work so I can ensure them to grow well during their first years, with my husband providing for us, I don't mind. Maybe once my children is older and more independent I can go back to do more work again if I want to, or don't want to, perhaps I'll change my mind and want to be a housewife that takes care my family (that is an achievement too!)

Traditional and formal kimonos are far from comfy. Lol. You have to tie the obi super tight in order for it to stay up since it’s so heavy. And all the extra ties on each under layer are also tight as well. I didn’t realize I had to push my stomach out when tying all the ties so I only last an hour before I had to take everything off.

@@BubblyViolin11 totally understand where youre coming from! our regalia is also tied VERY tight! hahah i also have to take a really deep breath before tying up higher, or have them tie closer to my hips for comfort. there is no room for slouching whatsoever, and you have to learn to sit in the skirts without ruining the folds.. i was mostly referring to how luxurious and comfortable the cloth its-self looks. it flows so freely, and seems to be versatile for each season.

i think the generation now associates traditional dresses like kimono or sarees(where I live) as old fashioned... but the power of simplicity and culture is something ppl dont understand... i wish they would expand their mindsets too along with the range of their dresses they wear!

Dear Kimono Mum, I have started watching your video's because of my interest in Japan. I was also interested in the way of raising a child in foreign country, due to the fact that my daughter is the same age as Sutan:) Time flies so fast, we watched your video's together and now my daughter often asks me "how is Sutan doing, can we watch her growing as fast as me?" So I just wanted to say that Sutan has a beloved friend in Poland - eastern Europe:). We both send you lots of love and warm hugs! - Joanna (Mum) and Marta :))

Although I had found your channel from scrolling through youtube shorts and finding your daughter hilarious and cute, it's amazing to know that all of this had been a result of so much struggle and hard work you had put into making all this a reality. Had you never had that off chance of having your friend tell you to change your career, another asking you to a vlog and before you knew it you were uploading things yourself, we'd never be here to watch your youtube videos. Thank you so much for enduring such a journey so that you are now in a happier place in your life, and here to also brighten our days!

as a psychology students, psychologycal effects of clothes is so interesting for me! i love that you can wear kimono with confidence, love, preference, and carrying your life journey in it. it's kinda similar for me. my style is an influence of many things, such as from my religious parents that requires me to wear what they call "following religious orders", what i consider of "following religious orders" which is different from my parents, hours of scrolling on pinterest, my favorite colors and fabric, my insecurities, friends and society, and the weather in my country that only has 2 seasons. after watching this video i have an idea to make my thesis based on this topic! thank you Moe-san ☺

It's so sad that it's hard to get coriander/cilantro in Japan! I love it. My mom grows it in a pot on her back porch every summer, and it's great in Mexican food and in fresh salads! I also enjoyed the close-up shots of the kimono in this video. The fabrics, colors, and patterns are very beautiful, and I loved seeing them. Moe, you are a beautiful young lady irrespective of whether you wear a kimono or 'western style' clothes. With your background, I fully understand your perspective on wearng the kimono. The ones that you have showcased in this video have obviously some significance and are very pretty, particularly the one you made yourself. Moto is very observant to notice the difference between when you wear a kimono and when you don't. Not all men would, methinks! Sutan looks so sweet in her kimono and will, no doubt, appreciate those which you hand down to her in the future. You are a modern wife and mother with traditional values and that makes you all the more beautiful.

I was always hoping to see a video from Elegant Moe about Kimono! This is really a great one 👏 I also like that when you think that you want do something, you did it just like that! Thank you for sharing Moe! The first time I wore Kimono was when I was about 7 years old at my Auntie's house, who have received Japanese Education at her young age back when Taiwan was under Japanese Rule. I immediately feel so special, then I got a chance to experience the formal one when I was an exchange student in Japan, and a few more opportunities when I volunteered at Japanese Tea ceremonies here in Canada. I feel that everytime I put the Kimono on, I appreciate the craftsmanship of every detail hence I also try to carry out the best of me to show respect. Just like the spirit of Tea Ceremony, Ichi Go Ichi E which reminds me to Live in the moment ❤ I wished to see more of your videos about Kimono and I also hope to know how you clean your Kimonos? I got a second hand old Kimono, but i believe it is a really good one, unfortunately there are lots of stain, the dry cleaning service here in Canada even though they are pricey but no experience on how to clean Kimonos 🙏

The blue Kimono was my favorite, but the story behind your favorite Kimono was really inspiring. I would love to see you show or even dress in the Kimono gifted to you from your Grandmother. I never ever really thought to label you as a "trad wife". Yes you are at home and staying to take care of Sutan but you were able to grow than simply being a housewife. You get to make business alongsides Moto (such a supportive hubby 😍). Travel around the world to promote it too. You do so much more than just staying at home and thinking "this is the only purpose I should have". You get to genuinely enjoy cooking, show your amazing relationship with your daughter and husband, and expand your horizons that so many housewifes could never go coz of unsupportive families and responsibilites at home. Don't ever label define you, Ms. Moe because to me, you are so much more than that!

Kimono Mom, thank you for sharing your one week vlog wearing a kimono. I was always excited to see what you would wear for your next day's vlog. Like you, I also loved traditional things. Even though I don't come from Japanese I fell in love with your culture, the clothes, the food, the beautiful scenery, anime and more other stuffs that related in Japan. Specifically I have a soft spot about kimonos. I can't stop myself being mesmerized unto people who are wearing and most specially can wear kimonos alone. I'm really interested on how to wear one and I hope one day I can buy one for myself 😅 I tried to look one, just like you said it's quite expensive. Still not loosing hope to wear and if the opportunity comes, will also buy one. Thank you for this vlog. I was really excited, that finally you filmed and show us specifically about you wearing a kimono, choosing your outfit with Sutan ☺️ and telling us a glimpse of your past life; talking about your Kimonos and where you got it from. Btw love your cooking vlogs 😍 I hope to see you one day , when I visit Japan, I will definitely come to your store ♥️ Please be safe always, praying for a happy and blessed life to you and your whole family. Thank you Kimono Mom ♥️ Felt that love and sincerity you have in all of your vlogs.

@@zbridgjpxupzmshe wants to distance herself from tradwife label and influencer. Which is understandable. She shows the reality that she's still working, earning money from youtube, from her business. All of those are possible because of extra help from daycare, her husband sharing the housework, etc. To me she's far from traditional and they both kinda similar to my parents. Earn money by starting business together and share the housework together. Tradwife influencer usually sell the fantasy of women being submissive to their partner while earning money by posting aesthetic cooking, cleaning video with beige clothing (link below to their merch store) and sometimes do OF with 1950 clothing 💀

Moe-san, My grandmother was very happy that I wore Kimono for my wedding. Grandma made me some of the smaller ties for me and my husband. She tied my obi on my wedding day. I still don't know how to tie obi. My sister wore Grandma's kimono as bridesmaid. My Grandma had worn the kimono to my parent's wedding. We are American but Grandma was a Japanese naturalized American. The older she got the more she missed Chiba. I'm sure it was not the same as when she left in 1952 and it would have been a shock to return 70 years later! When she developed dementia she was more comfortable speaking Japanese. I wished I knew more of the language. Some of the nursing home staff thought she couldn't speak English. I had to tell them, "No, Grandma is bilingual but english is her second language." Even when she couldn't remember who we were she still liked my husband's Japanese cooking. He made Grandma some tasty nigiri, kani salad, and sunomo for her birthday in 2019. She passed away of old age in 2021 wondering why no one visited for two years (COVID still had nursing home on lock down and window visits were not the same). The best I could do was drop off her favorite red bean mochi and senbai from our import store and kiku to make her room smell nice. I brought extra passover week as Grandma didn't like the stricter kocher menu at her jewish nursing home (she was Christian) and would often forget the jewish dietary restrictions. Sometrimes I had to write directions for the staff if it was freezer mochi and needed to be defrosted or refrigerated if not consumed all at once. When I miss Grandma I make some chirashi, spinach gomaae, and carrot tempura (matchstick cut) the way Grandma used to make for family pot lucks. Actually, my husband makes better spinach so I ask him to make it. I haven't got the dressing just right yet. I married a chef. Grandma liked my husband's spinach better than her own. Thank you for your channel. I like cooking and I'm not a trad wife either. -Renee PS My Dad gave me his childhood kimono but it was worn by 4 boys. How can I clean it and mend it? It is silk. I'm thankful that my childhood kimono was (cotton) yukata that Grandma made. It was easy to pass to my neices. My adopted step-daughter wore my yukata to my wedding.
