I am 84 years old and feel old age creeping into my life. I am surprised I lasted this long with two tours in combat in Vietnam. Life is hard enough without war making things more difficult. I admire the way the son cares for his Mom. My kids do help my wife care for me, but thankfully I can get around quite well. The Mom sets an example, her kids will have a tough time following. What a wonderful example to follow. Just watching the way she pats her son on his head as a way of saying thanks son. Thanks for sharing, my wife loved this video too.

I am lucky to have a son like this. No matter how busy he is running his business which includes frequent travel, raising two kids and being an attentive husband, he still finds time for me. His dad and I are divorced, living on opposite sides of the country, yet he finds time for him too. Videos like these warm my heart. I could watch them all day💗

@@may_laytrucker3127 The only way salt would be on that wall is if the zoo purposely put it there as a salt lick. It's not like the wall is on a beach getting hit with salty sea breezes, do you really think that salt just accumulates on inland structures like that??
I understand wanting them to be in the wild but these particular animals cannot just be released into the wild. They would die very quickly. And, if you watch anything from ape sanctuaries you will notice they have concrete and bars as well. It is required not only to protect the human caregivers but so their living quarters can be kept clean and sanitized. They lick the wall not out of boredom. It either tastes good or there was a bug or something there. They eat their own scabs and nose buggers so licking a wall is not surprising. My dog used to eat my walls! As far as them being bored - what do you think they do in the wild? They sit around a lot. They may walk farther to find food but then they sit, eat, and sleep. The animals that live in zoos today are what are saving the gorillas in the wild. People in most countries had never seen them or knew they existed until they came to zoos. Over time we came to love them because of the relationships built by zoo visitors. Then we learned of their plight and demanded they be protected. They are ambassadors and messengers so we will learn to be kinder to our fellow primates. Your strong feelings of protection for them is what is causing them to be treated better everywhere so it’s working. You might try asking questions about what you see instead of assuming it is all bad.

I noticed that she looked like she didn't have many if any teeth, what does she eat ? Do they give her extra supplements to keep her healthy? Sorry, this is the first video I've seen of her in awhile.
Thank you for your comment. Nene has no teeth due to gum disease, but she has a great appetite. She likes to eat leeks, lettuce, cucumber, eggplant and tomatoes. She eats fill of real foods, so the zookeepers doesn't give her any supplements.
Seems like Nene is licking the wall because she has Pica. Examples include stress, cultural factors, nutritional deficiencies, or pregnancy. I had a cat who licked the walls. Come to find out he only did it when I wasn't home, his was stress related.
I only dream of a day when they could live free and safe and as just being girills- who and what they are.But the evil of humans messes up everything...iIt breaks my heart to see them disrespected and on public display like this in zoos.
I feel so bad for them. Why can't they grow food in their area, plants that they eat in the wild, and why does every fn cage have no color, paint it green, and have it resemble the look of their natural habitat. Zoos are sad. People gawking all day at these beautiful majestic cousins of ours. It's heartbreaking.
Annie is a lot like her grandmother. Down to licking everything. It's a shame they don't get along. It's evident how much Annie has learned just from watching Nene. She also looks the most like Nene, even more than Ai which is kind of odd.
These poor animals look like they are in a prison, they have no grazing room to roam, it pathetic, I know your trying to save the species but it doesn’t have to include this being on display
I’m slowing down myself with age diabetes neuropathy don’t eat as much as I use to nor do I go running around I take my time going to and from my various concerns. .
I think it is discrasful they are kept in a cement enclosure they are majestic creatures that deserve to live in a natural habitat park etc. We took Way their habitat we owe them that
@Kim My opinion. That's the difference in food. The Shabani family eats a lot of vegetables, and the Momotarou family eats a lot of grass and leaves. Grass and leaves take time to digest. Therefore, all the members of the Momotarou family have bloated bellies.
@@Kim-lc3fv the Momotaro family do get vegetables but they are fed inside in the morning and evening, they have browse (leaves and grasses) outside during the day. The inside viewing rooms have been closed due to covid and have only recently been opened to videographers. So now you will be able to see the Momo family eating more vegetables.
@@sallypenhalli The Momotarou family also eats vegetables. However, it eats more leaves and grass than the Shabani family. The Shabani family has 70% vegetables, 30% grass leaf beans and nuts (information from the zoo-keeper), and the Momotarou family has 50% vegetable nuts and beans 50% grass leaves (information from enthusiastic fans). It may not be accurate, as the percentage of meals in the Momotarou family is not information from the zoo-keeper.
Wow. I didn’t know that. I wasn’t sure. Wow. Why do u think he was so mean to her. And I know nene is old. She is such a sweet old girl. I love the family and watching them. I just wasn’t sure all the things that happen.
Physical characteristics and traits to help me identify each gorilla in the Shabani Troop at the Hagishiyama Zoo in Japan. Nene: Short, tiny and cute is just the beginning of my description of the 52 year old matriarch of this gorilla group. Her nipples droop as well as her chest. Rolls of loose skin form a “Washboard effect down the front of her. She appears to have a furry pouch in her lower belly area. Most likely the effect of giving birth to a number of babies over the years. Nene’s black fur has a light dispersement of silver strands showing her enrollment into the Silverback group.I look for her most notable feature of a large cowlicks on each shoulder and on her left elbow. Sometimes Nene’s fur looks like someone took a weed-wacker to it. Most of the disarray appears to come from many less noticeable cow-licks in her fur. Nene appears to favor her left leg which may bother her at her advanced age. Can you give us more information on the life span of a Lowland gorilla? Nene’s back has a distinctive line in her fur that makes her back look square. Her fur has a rust color that meets the ending line of black fur and that gives her back a very square look. Nene has a habit of protruding her lower lip in a relaxed manner. I had wondered if the dark pink inside of gorillas’ mouths was an indication of their gender, but have seen this darker coloration amongst the males so obviously not a gender indicator. Please tell your audience if there is a way to distinguish the genders. Since these videos are coming from a zoo it would be nice to get more facts in your text boxes and please leave the text boxes on display for a longer period of time.Nene also has a cranial crown that is covered with rust colored fur. Nene’s brow ridge is quite large. The bony protrusion continues around the outside edge of each eye giving her eyes a sort of binocular look. I’ve seen this little female gorilla chase huge Shabani around when she’s angry. She screams all during the chase. So amazing to see her tiny body going after such a huge male gorilla! Nene has deep lines in the skin around her nose and face. Shabani: He’s silver and he’s huge. His forearms are covered in long black hair. I call them his shirtsleeves as he tends to wipe his food off along his :shirtsleeve”. Shabani has “black socks” on his feet.Otherwise his body is covered with silver fur. Shabani’s massive head is also covered in silver fur except for his “cranial crown” which is covered with rust colored fur all the way down to his brow ridge. His crown is a perfect shape. His nose is the shape of a heart and his ears are the only thing about him that is small. His eyes are a striking gold with a tinge of orange looking out from under his large brow ridge. While playful with his son Kyyomasa, it appears that Shabani is also teaching his son some “fighting moves” as they wrestle and push at each other. Shabani opens his mouth, showing his massive canine teeth, and then puts his open mouth on Kiyomasa’s body during these play sessions. Shabani, as the leader of the troop, seems to be watching all the gorillas at the same time. Others in the troop give respect and a wide berth to Shabani. I’ve been amazed at the politeness of each individual of the troop as they wait their turn while in line to return inside through a window-like opening. Kiyomasa has a cute habit of tossing his food up and catching it with his left hand before putting it in his mouth. I have learned from other videos on mountain gorillas ( I just learned from the zoo’s website that the Shabani group are lowland gorillas. It would be nice to have this explained. that the leader of the group is probably the biggest and the strongest male. So it seems like Shabani is training his son to perhaps take over the troop some day. Kiyomasa: is the son of Nene and Shabani. He is a very skinny version of his father. His cranial crown is not big but he has the rust colored fur on the top of his head. He is quickly changing from a skinny youth to getting some muscles developed. His fur is taking on more of the silver hue. When he is viewed from the side his “waist appears very slim and his legs are very skinny. There have been some videos of him being very annoying to his father. He has stayed close to his mother who appears to dote on him. His forehead has a black triangle on it from a formation of a patch of black fur. Sometimes it appears that it is caved in but that is just an illusion. Annie: is Kiyomasa’s sibling and they look very much alike in their physical shape, She does not have as much silver fur. She however has a cranial crown the size of her brother’s but has a lot more rust colored fur on her head. Her fur shoots up past the crown but gives her a disshelved look. She likes to lie on her back with her feet up often entangled in the ropes. Annie strokes her head a lot and loves to wrestle with her brother. Annie also licks the wall by the window-like entrance. AI. This female gorilla has fewer distinguishing characteristics. But she is one of the few who have all black fur. AI is a daughter of Shabani’s and likes to be close to him. Her belly is huge.
