Gouldfish on Games donated a parts machine ZX Spectrum Plus, but can I get it working? Or does it even need fixing at all?

Its always sad when the ULA dies, there is just nothing you can do apart from find a replacement and they are becoming less common as time goes on.

Fingers crossed we'll start to see more of the modern replacement versions as chips become more available.

6:46 The Samsung made machines use different transistors - most of which are Japanese 2SC/2SA types. The pinout for these is always Emitter, Collector, Base (left to right). TR4 is a 2SC2236A in this case. As you note, the extra pads on the board allow the usual ZTX65x to be fitted

I'd like to repair my Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128K+ Toaster model, that I accidentally powered up with the polarity reversed one evening, due to being utterly exhausted and even had a polarity tester right night to the Spectrum. So going by online comments, I gather it will be RAM chips blown and I assume parts associated with the power supply input on the board. Does that sound right to you? If yes are those RAM chips easy to source?

I've not had the pleasure of a toastrack model to work on yet, but in my experience of the 48k variety when the wrong polarity is inserted it can be a whole range of possible faults. Could just be a few fried chips, or the CPU, or in one case I had just about every IC went faulty. Hopefully on the 128k version they incorporated a bit more protection than they did on the earlier boards. For one thing the voltage circuit must be very different as there's no need for a -5v rail. I wish you luck!

If you're lucky the 7805 and the voltage converter circuit will be bad, and nothing else.. but it can be a complete wreck
