If your vehicle is left from days and weeks the battery will slowly deplete due to various systems eg alarm etc. So this small solar panel can be used to charge your battery via either the supplier 12v crocodile clips or the obd connector which is ideal because it’s not an outdoor panel. It attaches to the front of rear window via suction cups and can also just be left on the parcel shelf whichever suits you best. We are using ours in a van, you have to unplug it when the engine is running though, I also show the panel working and the voltage via a multimeter.

This has helped me as I'm off soon for 6 weeks and needed something to charge my battery as my dash cameras are hardwired in and always running.

How come mine doesn't come with any suckers? Is it safe to attach to a caravan battery whilst its still hooked up to the caravan?

I've just had mine on the volt meter and it's only reading 20mA..... But at the same time the battery has drained for some reason.... I think 20mA is absolutely pathetic though. 😬

Always having probs with my newish battery as I have retired n don’t use my land rover verry much,so,invested in one,and three weeks later my truck fires up first time,will let ya all know if it stands the test of winter though???. Ps,I find the crock clips work for me.

Hi Dom, I have a discovery 2 and a renault master van. I've got these solar panels hooked up with croc clips on the van (batt in cab floor) and via obd2 port on the discovery 2 and it keeps them topped up. With the larger diesel engines due to cranking amps required you need to give it a good run to charge it up because after short trips or standing around you'll find it's flat then it wrecks the battery.

@TheSunbeamAlpineChannel 3 года назад
When it is wired in what voltage is it supplying to your battery? You say that it will regulate the charge, have you found that it does? If it keeps on pumping 19+Volts or more into a battery it will ruin it. It needs to reduce the voltage down to the level of an alternator, around 14.3V. I expect that it does this but can you confirm.
@DanielJohnHowTo
@DanielJohnHowTo 3 года назад
I haven't looked at it too indepth but what I can tell you is that on a good sunny day the charge voltage is around 17 volts, it has built in over-charge control and haven't noticed any battery condition issues either hope that helps.

Could you in theory plug multiple solar panels into a splitter via the cigarette lighter or can you just have 1 in?
@DanielJohnHowTo
@DanielJohnHowTo 4 года назад
Well the panel produces around 15-20v, so if you had a cig lighter splitter it would double the voltage so probably not a good idea really.
@thew4rrior5code
@thew4rrior5code 4 года назад
Daniel yeah makes sense. I've got mine plugged into cig socket because mines always live. Yesterday I started car with it in and quickly remembered to unplug it would that break it? It was only in about 3 secs while engine was on.

Daniel yes but did you start vehicle while plugged in? is it ok to start car with it in cig socket? I know you're supposed to disconnect it first but you can forget sometimes lol like I did yesterday
@DanielJohnHowTo
@DanielJohnHowTo 4 года назад
@@thew4rrior5code I have started it a few times with it plugged in and nothing happened but you really want to unplug it, the voltage from the panel is one way. The charging current is low and the voltage is around 17v etc but just keep it unplugged to avoid any issues.
