I'm a fellow Texan and lived on Southern Negros for many years now. One thing I know is we all have different goals and dreams in retirement. For me two decades in the military traveling the world then contractor work doing the same was enough time back there. Now my only desire is peace, quiet and a simple life filled with a few close friends and a good partner. For me the food here is great, I have no issues and life is good. But, this country is not for everyone, I get that. I hope this guy can get squared away and find what he seeks. Good luck and God bless.
I know exactly what he means about the food there. Originally, I was supposed to stay in the PI this winter for 4 months but, the more I thought about it, the more I knew I could NOT handle the food for that long. So, I changed plans and will be in Thailand for 3 months and the PI the final month.

I had the same thing the clavicle I didn't know I had fractured it same as you horizontally could feel it rubbing back and forth and due to my own ignorance and being a stupid man I waited too long and I had to have two surgeries... Hopefully my friend it will not be your scenario... You're both characters seems like you've been friends for a long time and that's priceless.. keep us informed of how the VA treats you... Did 30 years myself you're in good hands.. safe travels brother!
Good luck Aaron. Have a nice trip back to the good old USA. You are making the right move. Even in the states, shoulder surgery is not performed by every orthopedic doctor. It’s a very specific specialty. The key thing with shoulder surgery is doing real physical therapy 2-3 times a week at a pet facility. Not one they send to your house. Your surgeon will get you a script and the VA will cover it.

Aaron I'm glad you're still alive it could've been a lot worse. After you get back and healed up you will be talking about your experiences in the Philippines. It's also good to hear that you're not hurting the local girls by giving them false hope like so many others do.
Where did you stay ?? It’s about how much you are willing to spend..Money talks. Have someone grocery shopping for you and cook for you. If you want to skip cooking, then eat in a buffet restaurant like we did in Boracay. We have a favorite Hennan hotel and resort to eat while staying there. You can choose the place to eat. Therefore, I don’t believe you it’s all chicken. It’s how much you are willing to spend. Anyway thank you for your service.Salute
Don't let the door hit you on your way out. This man should stay all his life in America instead of planning anywhere else. Why are these poor Western people are not dreaming of retiring in Switzerland, Austria, France or any other wonderful countries? All they have in their mouths are , Thailand, Laos, Vietnam or Philippines but expect a "5 Stars" result of everything.
@achtungphilippines Some foreighners have a very low budget in Asia and expect a luxury result, and all of them are very delusional in that respect. Try implementing that budget as a tourist in NY, you will end up in a flea-infested air bnb. And i don't know why someone got offended with my comment. If the Philippines can't offer you what you are looking for, then leave without saying bad things to the country because you can't change the culture. Value-budget (disability checks from VA) expats are having issues with that mentality. Millionaire Japanese are enjoying their stay in the Philippines. Asia is fine without your disability checks.

You might’ve been better staying in the Philippines getting treated because the VA hospitals in the US are so overcrowded. You may wait up to a month to get treatment.
He hate the foods because he didn't visit the other Islands Manila has it all, you have your pasta, steak, beans and bacon, Japanese food, Indian food, vietnam food, Thai food..you name it you can find it all in Manila...You can go to a buffet in Sofitel they have even cheese there from Europe and U.S...
It takes me 24 hr to fly to Bangkok from Toronto. Stop over in Tokyo. You need to get to Cuba. You can fly out of Canada or Mexico. I have a place and a girl in Havana . Only a 3 hr flight . But .... the food sucks .
You have to be a lil creative here. Perhaps research how to make your own salad dressings and start a veggie garden if permissable. For me I've found life a lil more interesting and become a lot more healthier in the process, all behind accepting the 🇨🇿 challenges. Although, I did bring my PS5 and Racing Sim rig, however, it's been sitting idle for 3 months now ✌🏾
I've heard foods in Switzerland are really really good. Why not considering moving to Switzerland?? Oh yeah, because it's expensive with expats' value-budget, Philippines is all they can afford to stay.

Don't say anything bad about us bc its our 'culture'. If your going to be backwards islanders, who take 10 hours to do anything and play so many scams and games on westerners, to say OH, but don't say anything bad, it's kind of sadistic I found. So while you scam me and try to juice me out of all my cash you possibly can, I better not say anything bad while trying to choke down this awful food. Man, you got to make a lot of concessions to live over there. I hope the woman are worth it.
