Like the NBA, NHL, NFL of the 80s:90s/2000s they more or so just “let them play” and than we got to this point where they slowly tightened up but it’s tightening up so much in all the sports it’s making it a crappy un watchable flag/penalty happy type product and that’s NO good! The NBA is averaging about 10 LESS fouls per game than they did the 80's and 90's, on FAR, FAR more attempts. Roughing the passer and pass interference are ruining the game. So many times QBs get out of the pocket and break tackles because the guys are just terrified to hit them. It’s too easy to draw a flag for helmet to helmet collision.

I completely disagree. The drop off from the top QBs is ridiculous. Nobody wants to watch Browning, they want JB. It is insulting to hear QBs being praised as better than their predecessors for averaging better stats during an era where the stats are clearly heavily inflated because the passing lanes have been opened wider than ever by the rule changes...In 2003 the yr before Polians pass interference illegal contact and defensive holding focal pt of emphasis was instituted leaguewide and b4 all the anti concussion and QB safety rules were instituted only 1 QB in the NFL threw for 4000yds in a season...Dan Marinos single season records of 48tds and 5000+yds in a single season hadnt been sniffed by anyone in almost 20yrs...Peyton immediately broke the TD record after they changed the rules in 2004 and both of those records(48tds&5000yds in a 16game season have now been topped by 3 or more different QBs, some of whom have done so with 1 of those 2 records multiple times each. In 2020 the last 16game season 15different QBs had 4000+yds in a season...Int totals and avgs are lower and passing yardage avgs/totals, completion%s are higher... Brady and the Pats complained when the refs and/or the league didnt do their jobs correctly...Brady complained above all else when the refs refused to call PI/IC/Def holding after obvious violations that had prevented his teammates from catching his passes...Gronk gave a member of the Bills the peoples elbow on 1 occasion after the refs let him get away with about 3 different holding violations against gronk on 1 play.

Honestly, this is just another step in the "back in my day" ladder to nowhere. 10-20 years ago, older players were saying the same thing about the group of people complaining today. Same 30 years ago, 40, and so on as long as the game has been a legitimate sport. It's true that QBs should play smarter to limit exposure of their receivers but it's even more true that the fundamentals of football need to be defined and enforced. The fact is, players out there today are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. You can't expect the pre-2000 game to exist the today with those factors. Every sport evolves and football isn't an exception.

He aint lying about young players not getting developed. Not only do we expect some cats that were just in college the year before to have the poise, accuracy, and experience of a 10 year vet, but we will throw them in the trash if they take longer than a year to figure it out. I'm looking specifically at Washington. Terry McLarin is a beast, but they never developed in him a way to get open/break the bracketing on him. Chase Young (coming back from an major injury too) was given no time to refine his form, and no visible coaching on how to get better. Then because he was not the absolute best D Lineman that ever played the game, Washington threw him away for a 3rd round pick...
@TurtletheShell

I heard that Young wanted out of Washington since the beginning of the year. That's the real reason he was out with a "stinger." He was looking for a way out. Could just be a rumor though. Now, in part for the reasons you mentioned, he's somewhat justified in wanting out. Can't blame him. That said, I can also understand "throwing him out" if they knew he wasn't going to come back anyways. Went to a great team in return so it works out either way. Otherwise I agree with you. I also, however, feel like the severe lack for veterans on teams has a big part in limiting development too though. Like Young looked much better when Kerrigan was playing with him, then they throw out Kerrigan, Young has an off year, gets injured... comes back, Kerrigan's then coaching him, and Young starts looking significantly better again.

One thing I will say is that tackling is being taught differently now. When I was a kid (2010ish) we were taught to tackle shoulder to thigh with our head across the body. In highschool we were told that “new studies” showed this was in fact dangerous, and we were told to tackle with our head behind the body and to “gator roll”. This led to less concussions but more broken tackles and more missed tackles

Penalties are so out of control and unpredictable in todays NFL that whenever my favorite team (the Raiders) score a TD or Crosby gets a sack I hold my breath and wait till I know the refs aren’t going to throw a flag then I’ll celebrate. All the new rules has definitely taken a lot of fun out of the game.

As to the quality of coaching and lack of player development, I believe this is an instance of the league suffering from its own success. The exposure of the game, the huge money that has came into the NFL over the last 2 decades has made a win-now culture so pervasive few owners are willing to put their faith in a coaching staff. Coaches that have their jobs on the line throw caution to the wind and toss undeveloped players into games for the sake of saving their own career. Especially at the quarterback position.

Thank god someone finally said it. I’ve felt that way for the past 5 years now. I don’t even watch football like I used to because it’s so predictable and problematic. The fouls that decide games when they are borderline is what really pisses me off. The coaching as well. No one tackles anymore. They all go for the strip and it cost them 10+ yards when they miss it. The babying of QBs as well and QB taking advantage of it. The NFL is rigged and we all know it. Why is the NFL partnering with big gambling money? Why did they allow an NFL team to love to Vegas? It’s because the NFL like our government has been compromised by big business

The game is absolutely rigged and always has been. That's why "New York" decides crucial challenges in games (and takes like 10 minutes to do so). That's why you can have a game where the refs "let them play" all game, then call a game-deciding penalty in crunch time. That's why you see those "bad beats" all the time, where a team scores a meaningless td or fg late in the game to go over or cover the spread (fumble recovery td by the team with the late lead with seconds left is a common culprit).
@ElliottEats
@ElliottEats 9 месяцев назад
The NFL as an organization is not rigged. It makes no sense for any professional sporting organization to commit fraud by rigging outcomes at an institutional level. That said, are there refs that are poorly trained, poorly paid (only part time), and have a motive to fix games, yes. There is a simple fix to questionable reffing, full time officials with an annual salary and mandatory off season training. The NFL as an organization is not rigged. It would require too many people in the know to pull off rigging at an institutional level, and it would leak out easily.

@@vknight7497as far as the players and coaches, no, but you can’t tell me that some of these refs aren’t out there making questionable calls during big moments in the game. Texans had to beat the bengals and the refs a couple weeks ago. Refs did everything to try and keep the bengals in that game they didn’t even review the illegal touching on that TD in the end zone they just went to commercial break and came back saying it’s been reviewed no TD. Like wtf they didn’t even let the viewers see why really happened

And it's cause there's no great QBs anymore. It's legit the worst QB era ever. Surprisingly the one prior was the greatest QB era of all time with Manning, Brady, big Ben, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner, Brett favre and many others. I'm genuinely disgusted by the atrocious QB play I'm watching on TV every Sunday. It's never been this bad. 😅

I DON'T disagree with Brady/Rodgers, but his knee injury is what was, in my opinion, was the beginning of the turning point to where we are today (Not blaming Brady the person). But I remember getting frustrated watching games where he was overly protected, and now it's the rest of the offensive players in the league. It is seemingly part of a strategy to get a roughing passer or targeting rather than drawing a play to make a catch or run for a 1st down.

I just don’t see it tbh. NFL viewership has been steadily rising while other leagues are struggling hard. We’ve been spoiled with actually exciting super bowls over the last decade. There’s def way less big hits than I remember in my childhood, but guys also aren’t dying in their 40s from CTE complications like they were. In my 30+ years watching this sport, this is the best it’s been by a mile.
