My parents had one in their cottage, but you can't get house insurance if you use it. The only way they could get insurance was to block it off and just use it as a decorative piece. After a while, they needed the space for a stove they could actually use, so had to get rid of it. But before the insurance issue, I remember my parents cooking all our meals on it.

You left the table and stove!! ;) I love those. And I love you got the Yamaha and art supplies. And the old bicycle. The old paintings are Great. Ya never know about out buildings. My in-law-grandparents were collectors; not so much, hoarders. Their large out building was (in much better shape) entirely stuffed from floor to ceiling with items that included a Lot from two furnished 3 story Victorian homes they’d bought as an investment after the market crashed when they were young. Amazing finds. Including signs, Alex. Lol. I’m a retired antique dealer, treasure hunter myself. I really enjoy you sharing your adventures with us! I love your family. You guys are awesome! There might not have been too many great finds in this video, but to me it is always interesting to watch old buildings. It's really interesting to see how homes were constructed with the technology and materials they had but also how they personalized the design of their homes. The beauty of these buildings in their dereliction is lovely to see but also a bit sad. Had they been better kept up, the area could have been turned into a living museum (see Upper Canada Village in Ontario). That overgrown garden is just lovely! Also, you should start bringing gloves with you in the car so that you're not getting covered in grime and animal waste. Thanks for the lovely adventure this morning.

Hi Alex. At minute 17:37 I share your excitement at the log house in the farmyard! See if he will sell you that building. He probably has farm equipment to dismantle the logs and load them on a trailer for you and you could use it as the exterior on your new addition! Even if the dimensions aren't the same as your extension you could use it as a feature wall, either on the interior or the exterior. See if the interior walls are open enough to see the condition of the logs. It has a metal roof, so hopefully there hasn't been water damage. I think it would be a new adventure for you to incorporate an historic log building into your new build!

That second house give me the hibby jibbies your spirit has to be strong to go into homes that are abandoned so many years. Plus you make me nervous everything you's stick your hands into years of old stuff without a gloves.

Ah dragonfly’s, the mosquitoes worse nightmare they are the best natural repellent out there. Alex I’m going to say it again put some gloves/boots on and a dust mask! Who knows what’s in that dust and old grain/mold, a small cut or prick can become something else!! One mans junk is another mans treasure!

Znow that is the best place to wear a mask. Composed manure can make big bucks selling it to city folk. It's well rotted so ready to use! You find the most interesting places Alex. My Ukraine family homesteaded in Sifton Manitoba on a quarter section of woodland. After seven years of clearing and growing crops the government gave the title to the homestead. Oh ya and they brought seven children to Canada with them and had six more with my grandfather being number seven. Thanks for the ride.

The log cabin is awesome!! The hand hewn logs, the chinking, the log barns and outbuildings were so old and so beautiful. It's so sad to see them like that, just left to rot.

It’d be neat to find the natl geo issue that first covered the finding of king tuts tomb.

we bought the land next to us and the barn was half way up with rotted hay and manure. My husband worked his tractor for a long time to get it all moved out and built up the land with it and later on grass grew on it, very fertile. You are so brave to go in those buildings never knowing what you might get into.

Oh boy, I would run, not walk away from that house, but if you did decide to remodel it, instead of “The Potter House”, you could call this one “The Hoarder House”! lol. Love your videos!
