I'd known about this 1970 Ford F250 2WD farm truck for a few years but didn't think I needed to drag it home. After looking at it closer it wasn't as bad of a pickup as I remembered so I brought it home this fall. Lets see if we can get the old 351 Windsor engine loose and running for the first time since 1998! This pickup has been SOLD!!! As always, thanks for watching!

You need to seat the spout in the can a bit deeper. The last little bit pushes the flap into the can which makes a halfcdollar size hole to pour from. Also lose the funnel.

I picked up a 71 a few months ago that was pulled out of the woods, truck had 1994 tabs. Cleaned to points, a splash of hot sauce, and she flamed right to life! Identical truck, Mine's a 70 2wd F250 with a 360 and a 4 speed and power steering. Pretty rough, but its to scratch my itch through winter to drive old iron, while my rust free toys sit in storage.

Those are new old oil cans. The earlier cans were all metal. Be careful when stabbing the spout. Sometimes the paper sides will crush and the can tips over. Greta will be pissed.

On the old oil cans, you don't need a funnel - just stick it in the oil filler and let her rip. And yes, the new plastic bottles are much better.

Great video! Great seeing those oil cans. Brings back memories. The reason why the first can was leaking was likely because the spout was not fully seated on the top of the can. And yes, in order to get the oil flowing faster, puncture the top of the can, on the other side, with a screwdriver.
@dans_Learning_Curve

Never seen a second hole made in those cans. Oil always flowed well. Don't know how they vented.
@solomonlynn7456
@solomonlynn7456 Год назад
What a great memory of days gone by! I used to give the spout a little tap to make the vent hole, then rotate 180 and send it home. That's when oil cans were metal. When the manufactures went to cardboard it was common to punch through the side of the can and get a nice little puncture in your left hand.

When adding oil to a engine using a can of oil like you are, we always took the oil filler funnel and poked a “ Small” hole on the opposite side of where we were going to put the filler funnel for pouring the oil. The filler funnels were made to lean up against the valve cover so you could go about your other business while it drained the oil from the can

Another Mortske classic revival!! Those cans brought back memories. I had to dust them at my dad's service station in the early 70's when that truck was new. Old Duff sure does clean up nice, but he doesn't stay that way for long. He also doesn't care what you are doing, as long as he's with you! That's a loyal pup right there. The mouse house in the muffler was really keeping back pressure on the engine, making it hard to breathe. Just cut them off! Who needs 'em anyhow. Thanks for all you do to keep us entertained. Til next week.

Thanks for the revival. Is what it is, old farm truck with farmer wrenching included . Remember oil in the can well. Always hunting the filler necks when I needed to add a little to the lawn mower. Found three of those suckered in the bottom of my roll away cabinet last week. When we did oil changes at the Texaco we'd vent the cans by poking holes in the bottoms with a Phillips screwdriver.

Thanks for another Mortske Monday ! Thanks to Chin for the editing as well. I use to stab a small hole like you did with the church key with the can nozzle. Then you gently stab the nozzle in the other side. When you pour it into the valve cover hole do it like you're pouring a beer in a glass until the oils below the vent hole. Its design was to use it without a funnel. Good luck🐾🍺

Puncture the bottom of the oil can after you tip it to pour. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! They made several different devices to pour oil from a can with. Most all of them leaked. You did just fine for a first timer. That crossmember hadn't had a fresh spill of oil in 24 years either and it probably appreciated it.

Memories of dad teaching a little me in the late 70's how to change oil in our 351 C, W, and M Ford's using Oilzum oil and Wix filters! I feel old. Use the spout to pierce a small vent hole as you did with your Hamm's opener, rotate the can and jamb the spout in until it seats tight to the can. You don't need a funnel as the spout fits into the valve cover opening. Yikes that put a smile on my face!!

OMG, Mortske, I worked in gas stations for years and did the old full service thing. I used to use and sell those old oil cans and funnels. What a gem! Brings back great memories.

@@MortskeRepair yeppers. I did oil changes, tune ups (very old school style), lubes, tires and repairs, brakes, hoses, wheel bearings... all while pumping gas and washing windows and looking under the hood for the customers😁.

The early 351 Windsors block were higher nickel content and the valves were slightly larger. They also had more compression than later ones. My 1969 was 10.7 by 72 they had dropped them down to 10 even. Still good motors. Throw a little zinc in once in awhile probably got it in the oil that you use lol. I remember Getty stations back east.

I like seeing the agricultural element in this episode. I’m a city guy not used to seeing that. Keep at it Kevin, we’ll be watching.

You can tell that 351w came out of a car because of the way that it is! Cars had the front sump pan while trucks almost always had the rear sump style! Good stuff tho! I enjoy watching these revivals cause I’ve done it so many times and brings back memories! Some bad memories too! 😅

You dont need the funnel first off, (1) pierce the oil can slightly with the filler neck on one side (2) on other side pierce fully into can (3) insert filler neck into oil fill hole until can is empty, or if you want to make a mess withdraw early. Another method people used to use if they didnt have a filler neck but had a funnel was hold the can firmly, pierce the can with a screwdriver then lift up on an angle and the metal top will separate from the cardboard portion of the can and pry the top clean off, then dump the entire can into a large funnel Nascar Style super quick.

That oil can is a real throwback. I remember they used to let the can drain at the pump after the customer left and got free oil after a day of residual oil in the cans
