Fascinating. This took me back to the 60's when I was installing telephones in the Dover area. I went into one of these ROC posts on the cliffs to install a loudspeaker phone and a WB400 early warning receiver after the Berlin wall was erected. I didn't see a WB400 in this post though. I think they were mainly in Police & ambulance stations plus Civil Defence HQs.
Very informative and great to see a new topic! I was thinking this is very ‘Threads’ and then I think you showed a clip? Harrowing film. I want to watch it again but then I also don’t!
We “rediscovered” the bunker on Doles lane around 25 years ago when it was fully intact, we used to go down and play in it, I was about 15 at the time, unfortunately the druggies found about it and set it on fire. Looking back now a proper shame
Good video Paul. I think we might have been friends at uni' - up at Sheffield, back in the mists of time. Good to see you're well and keeping out of trouble too I hope! Oliver
Brilliant. You know, it was only a few weeks ago I was thinking about you and wondering what you were upto. Hope you're keeping well. So it was just purely a random find if the video?
@@WobblyRunner Yeah, just found your videos by chance: I like doing a bit of walking and exploring though so maybe RU-vid came up with you for that reason. Small world anyway! Yeah, keeping well thanks - daan sarf as they say. Hope you're all good too.
There is one at ambergate near me went down it once was in a bad state been set on fire I believe it’s been sealed shut now in the last year or so such a shame
As a grown adult, I still find it ridiculous we were made to watch Threads at school. 😂 The Aero Venture Museum at Doncaster Lakeside have a ROC exhibit too, albeit not an original one in the ground.
Something a bit different, it always makes me laugh when I see a road sign that says Secret Nuclear Bunker like the one on the A414 near Ongar in Essex
