I present the use cases of the latest Ableton Push controller. I use musical examples to show in which situations I use it most often. I compare Ableton Push 3 with Ableton Push 2 and point out the most important differences. I check how Session View is handled and how the browser works with the new Jog wheel. I'm demonstrating a sketch of a song in Ableton Live 12, including parts recorded with Push 3 using the Tuning and Midi Polyphonic Expression functions. I show how to transfer Live 11 projects between a computer and Ableton Push 3 Standalone. I'm testing Push 3's performance and checking how many audio tracks and virtual instruments it can handle simultaneously in standalone mode.
Hey, please subscribe if you can:)

Polo Tremolo. Your excellent music would work on any controller. The music is the main thing.

Good & fair review. Personally, i got the standalone veraion to use at home, away from conputer. Imposing on myself such limitations opens a new creative avenues and workflows to the point that the music i make sounds different. Thats worth everything for me :)

Thanks Artur:) I totally get that. Well, you can always use an 3-5m extention USB cord with a controller , I do that with Maschine all the time so I can relax on the sofa, haha;) But still Push 3 Standalone is not a complete song making tool for me, waiting for some control over the arrangement view, again my personal view. Thanks for sharing!

@@PoloTremoloWell, it's not even been a year since Push 3 was released and I imagine the dev team was pretty preoccupied with Live 12, so I hope the work on P3S ramps up. I'm not really expecting arranger features, but for sure I'd love to see the ability to add & edit the clip and scene follow actions, which would be enough to build a rudimentary song structure. Also, P3S is completely missing anything related to creating & editing of the Racks. Let's give them time (and money 😅).

I went with a dead silent MacBook Air M2 that I found “refurbished premium” for those $1000 with extended SSD instead of getting the standalone, I’m about to receive yet the Push 3 controller but as I see I have now a laptop for some portable tasks and emergencies but of course a dedicated portable CPU for Ableton on priority, no browser windows nor other processes. Yet if I happen to need to run Ableton for a big project or the final arranging part I have also a dedicated Ableton Mac Studio. Sincerely I don’t see any better if I’m going to be around home and not always sitting in the studio. A real possibility for the Push 3 standalone would be the luxury to don’t carry around with the extra laptop, but let’s face it, it gives you a plus but The PC would always be required for some sound design that cannot be done yet on the Push 3 and for the final arrangement of a song. “Standalone” doesn’t mean let your PC go away forever, I don’t see also that to happen but maybe in 5 years and if Push 3 was successful from 3 years as from now and then Ableton would see if it is best to develop Standalone features for a more powerful CPU than the limited one as for today. Let’s bet, 5 years for an upgrade to the Standalone kit, yet today Standalone is nice if you want it but do you beware to also have a good PC with Ableton installed.

I have had all Pushes as well, and i tried to get Push 2 and 3 to work at the same time as well, but no love. Great idea, would have been awesome to use both, but alas i sold my Push 2. Loving the 3.

Siemka. It is pity that Push3 last on battery only 2h. Mayby when they move to arm procesors it will longer. Convenient it would be around 4,5h and more. I get new one when it will happend.

cheers, mate! Yes, 2 to 2,5h on avarage depending on the load and brightness of the pads backlight. So the battery won't last for a whole day trip etc. This might change in the future if they upgrade Push 3 Standalone kit, which basically is a computer you attach to the controller.

You can get the controller version for now and then add the upgrade kit when / if it happens.

Great explanative video! I'm wondering if you could control external synthesisers using the controller version without the use of a computer? given it has anyway a built in audio-interface

No, I am afraid. Anyway the USER MODE has never been developed - it only is useful for some external Max4Live plugins, ie. Push Hacker. But the stand-alone version will work great with built-in AL12

Push 3 standalone is pretty much a Gen 1 device. There is a lot of potential here to really make an impact on the groovebox market but for that it needs a lot more cooking.

Great video! Does the touch functionality work with the chroma caps?

Nope, I am afraid no. But I only realized it after a while, I don't really rely on this;) And thank you a lot!

You make good music man! Love it. I’m going to get the Push 3 controller not the stand alone. I mean I have an expensive computer might as well use it 😂

Yeah, cograts, it is a beatiful controller, you'll be happy;) Definately it is a sensible solution to go for non-controller, you can always ugprade later, just get an active USB extension cord and it will be like stand-alone;). I might be upgrading from Push 2 and getting Push 3 non-controller version too!

I bought it without the standalone and enjoying it. I may buy the standalone later but just to do some things on the road in between.

$1k is too expensive. I'd buy it for $600 to $800, but $1k is too much.
