Wow! Such an awesome collection! I’m just now building my collection so I have probably around 40 research/cookbooks so far. I absolutely love Sarah Ballantyne, she is a nutrition geek like me lol. I love Diane Sanfillipo, Mark Sisson, and Leanne Vogel. Books give me life! So glad I found your channel, it’s pretty unique and very informative. And when you can, maybe you could do more book reviews and an updated and longer book collection video. I’m dying to know more in-depth about your book collection. Thanks for this, I’ve already placed some of the books in your collection into my shopping basket on amazon 🤗
I love all of those you listed, except Vogel, I need to look her up now!!! I definitely want to do some book reviews coming up! I'm glad there's an audience for that, thank you so much for the awesome feedback and nice compliments 😊💕💕
Sooooooo many of the books I own overlap with yours but I also have about 250 cookbooks and five 4’ binders of recipes I printed from the old days of the Internet...you know, before Pinterest lol.
I used to have those big binders full of recipes printed from online too!!😂😂 I have 2 books that need to be in this stack!! You might have them too but if not they are two of my favorites that I highly recommend if you're into books like this!!! Dr. Mark Hyman's "Food, what the heck should I eat?" And Dr. Ben Lynch's "Dirty Genes" are both so awesome! I need to review them at some point!
Which Mark Bittman book do you recommend? I wasn’t able to find an AIP or Paleo book by him. I never cooked before going Paleo 3 months ago. I’ve just started AIP and need cooking help. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Sue H Thank you Sue! :) Mark Bittman doesn't have any AIP or even Paleo books, I just really like how he explains how flavors go together and technique. Kitchen Matrix is my favorite of his! But "How to cook everything" is a close second. If you are new to cooking I think The Healing kitchen by Alaena Haber and Sarah Ballantyne would be a good AIP starter cookbook...or the Autoimmune Paleo cookbook by Mickey Trescott. Hope that helps! :)
What gave you the motivation to go through hundreds of books, a very time consuming and frustrating process compared to vising a functional med doctor. Both options would have been same money wise.
trakba I already went to LOTS of doctors, including a functional physician and they didn't help me!! I go over this in the video called "My AIP Success Story" Anyway, I love to read! The most frustrating part of my journey to health was working with doctors to try to find help and never getting answers! Just a lot of weird test results they couldn't decipher and a celiac diagnosis that wasn't enough to solve the puzzle- and of course a bunch of offers of prescription band-aids.....
I have seen that video. In that video you didnt mention if they were functional medicine doctors and I assume they were all conventional doctors because of the way you were describing your experience.
trakba oh, that makes sense. Yes, I saw a functional physician as well as different specialists and conventional doctors too. The functional physician was the one that told me it was maybe my central nervous system and to just try to enjoy my life...That was in my 20's. Things may have been different now- but I had already given up on doctors.
Hi, I had modern med drs for 25yrs fail me, def make me worse while on my own it was thanks to books and websites and yrs of research to even learn about root causes. Most can't just go to a functional dr. If we don't even know about them, no reg dr is going to refer us. It took me 7yrs reading, emailing and calling every functional med dr I could find to see one. None took insurance. I would maybe not be here if it wasn't for research I did on my own. No, I couldn't buy all the books I wanted but most go to library or use kindle. I cant stand ebooks though lol. I cant hold phone or tablet that long due to pain. But a few wonderful people I met in online groups who became long time friends shared e-books with me! We even copy and screenshot stuff to each other. Idk anyone who is really sick that can afford functional med drs. The few who do had family help or are able to still work or spouse income is enough to support them and medical care. I am not in any of this situations so must count on myself. Even if I was I prefer to have as much knowledge as possible. At 17 I was at my university's medical library devouring everything. I think some of us prefer to know all we can esp when drs fail us. But my very smart RN mom who has same illnesses doesn't read anything and trusts drs, she's getting worse as I improve. She won't do aip cause a Dr didn't tell her to. :( I began baby steps learned from my research and awesome drs like Dr Cole who is a wealth of info free online. Dr Axe when 1st starting out too. Yoga, mindset, meditation, thought techniques saved my life and gave me will to do aip. I know others who simply won't try it cause they cant summon the inner strength. Stacey you said it, step 1 is mindset. I slip when depressed and too sick to shop and prep I do as most of my pain and symptoms aren't improving with aip, they require treatments my insurance won't cover so I understand those who can't get the mindset, depression comes along with these illnesses usually. Point is, after 7yrs searching for functional dr that took insurance I found one. He made me worse! Id just began aip 2 weeks and honestly that's only way I even could make hour drive. I liked a LOT about him and of course wonderful to have a Dr grasp root causes of disease and try to figure out mine. He validated a great deal and yes many things he proposed would help me however he thought aip was ridiculous. He didn't listen to me about how sensitive I am to sugar due to severe candida. He pushed his nutritionist program full of grains and also $1500. I had $300 to spend, luckily appt was 80% covered as labs but no supplements or most tests like cortisol etc (have adrenal fatigue and high cortisol). He pushed his detox kit and I clearly asked if shake had any sugar. I cant even have natural aip ok sugars like honey. He said no. I also am on many meds so detox is risky and prob no where near ready as only just began aip and in bad cansida die-off and not weaned down on meds yet. I spent all my money on this kit plus some vital supplements labs were low in. Well... I got really sick from shake and sure enough was full of sugar ,actual sugar. Pea, rice and so not aip. The detox stuff nearly killed me. My liver enzymes went sky high. When told him all this he shrugged it off. I explained the supplements were not aip, rice base. He said I was wrong to follow aip, yet last appt he didn't know anything about it now hes an expert. Other supplements had whey. I have sinusitus from candida, skin cracks and bleeds, vaginal yeast infections of course but after week on this stuff 70% Of my hair fell out too. He blamed it on aip and NOT eating grains. Yet grains feed the candida. He then suggested his hair growth program. So that was that. I left. I realize this is 1 bad experience and plenty of awesome functional & integrative drs exist but it goes to show if not for my books, my research and others help from their research not only would modern drs fail me but Id have stayed with this functional dr and never known aip or dozens of other treatments/supplements/modalities helping me and he'd have failed me too. Its scary that we cant depend on medical professionals but its fact. Ive since found an integrative dr also a MD. She's my dream Dr. She knew all about aip, knew about everything Ive tried to explain for years to reg drs. Even better she understood can't be aggressive with my complex situation like doing detox. Unfortunately everything she wants to do isn't covered and I don't have funds for it yet however doing anything I can. And at least can get labs through her and her guidance for supplements. So yes this is def the way to go for those who can. Just to have someone guiding me since I know nearly all she tells me but am not sure of it or what step to take next and get overwhelmed. I dream of day we have proper healthcare and these Drs are our 1st step when symptoms begin. My dream is a non profit that brings functional/integrative drs together w/patients for low cost or free treatment. That we have walks and fundraisers and more awareness for chronic diseases such as autoimmune. And places that serve paleo and AIP fare. My sister is a chef, my friends a baker, Im begging them to open a place together that does just this. Im in FL and nothing exists like that yet my research shows the market exists big time! A very lengthy post.;) Healing blessings to you.
