Batteries weren't included in toys because they were classed as explosive/fire hazards for shipping. So if your toy was being made in China it was actualyy cheaper for the end consumer to buy their own batteries than is would have been for the manufacturer to provide both the batteries and pay for the increased hazardous goods paperwork & shipping security

I had a Jibber Jabber. I thought that thing was hilarious. I loved the noise it made. If I recall, they were extremely popular while they were available. My grandma and grandpa each had one they kept on their desks at work so that when they were frustrated with something, they’d shake the life out of that toy. My grandpa had a tendency to yell at it too, and he was a big guy with a deep, booming voice even when speaking softly. So his co-workers could hear him grumbling or yelling at the toy and that thing warbling and wailing, and they’d all say “steer clear of Bill today! It’s a stranglin’ day!”

I remember my neighbor had one and it seemed pretty clear what i was choking it to death as i beat it’s floppy head against the door jam to get that much more noise out of it. Then some kid on the news killed a baby after playing with one and i was like “yep.” That and those god damn lawn darts that we’d throw at an old mattress, if you threw them up high enough they’d bounce off and stab into other things… and ya someone always went running in to get the first one before the 3rd had even landed

I actually bought the cactus when I first heard about it, the polish cocaine rap really is included. There's 3 songs, the other two are an instrumental song and some inoffensive Spanish song. There's no way to confirm this but my suspicion is that whoever chose the songs for the cactus was a disgruntled employee who did it as a joke knowing that no one else in the production chain spoke Polish or Spanish. Also, for the record it does in fact play the entire song.

We actually had a Jibber Jabber doll at one company I worked for. Our secretary kept it under her desk and anybody could borrow it at any time to throttle it. It was a great source of stress relief after dealing with difficult and idiotic clients.

@@jacobhuff3748 It was at a long term care pharmacy. We filled nursing home medications. You wouldn't believe how infuriating, stupid, and incompetent some nurses could be. The first time I borrowed the doll was after getting off the phone with a nurse who asked me what acetaminophen was (I swear!). I've received orders for a wound dressing for a patient's left foot only to find out that the patient didn't even have a left foot (it was amputated). I've had nurses send over entire lists of medications for a new admission without so much as the patient's name, the entire cover sheet was blank. And that's just off the top of my head. There was just something cathartic about throttling that thing and imagining it was one of those nurses.

I once bought an MP3 player in a toy-store, so I could listen to some music while on holiday because I forgot to pack mine. Imagine my shock when the MP3 player already had some music on it with very explicit lyrics. As mentioned it came from a toy-store, so was clearly meant for kids. If a parent doesn't check the thing, they might hear their kid suddenly sing about doing some very adult thing to a woman's bottom.

I almost lost an eye with those large "toy" darts. The funny part (or stupidity) was that I had the "safer" version of that "toy" that instead of having a pointed end had a rubber cupsuction. Sadly toy makers always think that children will always follow instructions and play with toys are they're intended. In my case I found that you could easily take off the safety "cup" and have a blunt spike and the end of the dart and you may already know what followed: "it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye". I almost lost mine but then again I became a legend among my childhood friends. No hard feelings.

As a 70's kid, I remember Jarts. I also remember the 60 minutes story about the kid getting killed. And my ultra-conservative grandfather complaining about the "nanny guvmint" when the ban was announced. I'm sure those Jarts are still somewhere in my father's garage, along with his Gilbert glass blowing kit and his sharp-edged lead toys. But mere physical injuries at a BBQ? No; it's not a family gathering unless someone's had their soul torn into a million shreds, because psychological wounds can be hidden so much more easily.

After seeing bees and wasps fly in and out of soda cans as a little kid, I discovered that turning the tab, used to open the can, 180 degrees would cover the hole from intruders but still allow the beverage to flow through; I've always been pretty crafty. Later, in my late teens, I used to same idea at parties to distinguish my beer can from others to prevent herpes or the dreaded ash tray can.... Live in fear no longer my friend!

A lot of those dancing toys remind me of the peak dad humour of the singing fish, but, I must say, a cactus is quite endearing, with the extra flexible limbs. I see an update to the dancing fish moment. This toy could also look rather realistic and then suddenly sprout eyes and begin singing. Ideally not about crack though. I'm sure somewhere a Mexican person is deservedly ringing their hands at the potential for racist connections between cactuses, Mexicans and drug use.

I recall a game that was advertised in the 1970s on British TV called (I think) "Tin Can Alley". It featured a plastic "wall" and a selection of plastic "tin cans". But the most dangerous part of the game was a miniature shotgun that fired ball-bearings! The game was even promoted by American Western actor Chuck Connors!

I'm surprised Mattel's Cabbage Patch Snacktime Kids didn't make the list. They had the action feature of 'eating' whatever you put in their mouth. Unfortunately that included small fingers and stray hairs. There was also no obvious 'off' switch: the mechanism only stopped if you took off the doll's backpack, something only known to those who'd bothered to read the instructions. So either little Abby needed Rapunzelesque lengths of hair, or be one hell of an early speed reader.

I was wondering. What the hell? Am I going crazy? Why do parts of this video sound so familiar? I don’t believe in the Mandela effect or deja vu. I was looking through most recent BB episodes and didn’t see it there. Thanks for pointing it out so I can stop worrying that I’m losing my mind!

That thing with the stinging insect in the can of Coke happened to a girl who used to babysit me and my sister when we were little. It was a bee and she was highly allergic. They had to call an ambulance to a high school soccer game. She was fine but apparently the second string girls soccer team player who had to sub in for her probably wasn’t as good and her team ended up losing. But hey, she didn’t die so all things in perspective I suppose.

I generally avoid that by drinking diet coke. For some reason, cough chemicals cough, bugs just don't like diet coke. I've shared a orange soda with a bee before but they won't bother with diet coke. Got to watch out for those cute fuzzy terrifying bees neat the bus stops trash can. They love sugary soda.

One year my uncle took me and my cousin to see fireworks and because the establishment ran out of drinks, we were nearly dehydrated when we got back to the car 3 or 4 hours later. When we got into the car, my cousin saw an open Coke can my uncle had been drinking from and immediately grabbed and chugged it. He then spit out the contents, retched and vomited...because my uncle had been using the can to catch his dip spit. Thank you! I’ll be here all week!

How about the PEZ guns? I remember having one as a kid in the 70's. Load the magazine with PEZ candy and have a candy fight! What could be wrong with teaching a kid to put the barrel of a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger? You get candy! And using a spring loaded gun to shoot candy into your mouth... choking hazard? Maybe a little bit. LEGO 2x1 tiles worked just as well when you were out of candy and still wanted some gun fighting fun.

Errr... The ex-wife swapped her "Buzzy Black Monster" for our kids' Harry Potter Wand so if she left it out it looked innocuous if her parents popped round. Unfortunately; one of our kids took it to school and a teacher smelled something fishy....

I had a Jibber jabber! That's not how the doll worked, it wasn't squeezing the neck that made the noise, it was shaking it back and forth (like those like things you tilt and it makes a mooing noise). It just worked best to shake it holding the neck. I loved mine as a kid!!
