How come you guys are so smart and educated and able to see situations from so many points of view and give such pertinent, compassionate, logical and common sense advice ?! I have never met anyone who is able to address so many different subjects with so much delicacy, logic and being respectful but so firm at the same time. I love and respect you guys so much, I am glad I found your channel, I always learn form the 2 of you :)

Men who humiliate women don't love and respect them. This man probably has no issue with his daughter being insulted because these people are simply abusers. They hide behind religion, culture and religion. You have offered sound advice for them to move out. I wouldn't live with these people nor would I allow them to live with me.
@SohailJafar1

Pattydole70 they shouldn't even bring up the religious card as the women should be protected from vile pieces of shits. I would never let that happen.

Can't she tell her own dad if her husband won't listen? Then her dad can speak to his dad, and maybe he'll respect his point of view more because theyre from the same generation.

Now that shes married shes not a kid anymore, and adding her parents to mix will create more chaos and problems. So she has to handle it on her own with her husbands help and take a stand.
@user-lb4nf9nx8w
@user-lb4nf9nx8w 7 лет назад
that will make it such a big deal and cause conflict
@thebunnybeee
@thebunnybeee 7 лет назад
ambeaux goddess I think from the point the lady in the email said 'my family have fulfilled all of the boys families wishes', it's clear the boys family have the upper hand between the two families. The girls family were most probably trying to please the boys side from the point marriage talks started. Even if she tells her dad, her father in law would most probably make it seem as though the girl is at fault and her father would then have nothing to say to back her.
@SohailJafar1
@SohailJafar1 7 лет назад
She should go to her husband first, cause if the dad comes in not only would he pissed at her father in law, he'd be furious that her husband did nothing.
@aparwani9263
@aparwani9263 7 лет назад
If you are reading this, do not waste your time by telling your husband because men in that situation, they always side with their families. Sometimes they are also immune to the mistakes that their families make, they either ignore it or not notice it. But like they said, talk to your husband first and if he does not solve the problem, talk to your father in law directly. Things can be done nicely and without making him feel disrespected. Be the bigger person but do not let him walk all over you. In laws need to stop taking advantage of their daughter in laws and they need to stop treating them like they are not human beings. I am sure a lot of women can relate to this issue. All daughter in laws want is basic respect because they deserve it.

TBH this man is angering Allah since it is his duty to give both his parents and wife their rightful rights and not give to his parents more than his wife making her feel so lowly of herself. Shame on him and his father.

I have learnt about life that whenever you meet people first, you should not be your overly friendly self and that you should set up boundaries. If you want to be nicer towards someone that you have understood to be a respectful individual, you can do that later. You can't set boundaries after they start walking all over you.

I have been married since 2002 and have no children (which is still cool) but if I had children - a daughter perhaps I would never allow my daughter to live with in-laws . Her future husband would have to keep her separate from interfering in-laws; my experience of in-laws has made me firm in my decision ; get married and never live with in-laws.

UmarH27 If there are benefits to living with the in laws why is it always the man's parents? If it is so great and awesome living with your in laws than if men love it so much why don't they live with their in laws? Why is it the man promoting it but the woman having to do it. The men love it so much then they can do it. But of course no Asian man would ever do that because they force their women to. They are sexist and selfish...so easy to say how great and wonderful living with in laws is...but funny how men would never do it themselves.

Its funny how its only asain girls or girls with asain guys develop an interest in living with laws, she didn't want to be alone? where were you living? fact of the matter is, one a women reaches a certain age, she wants and needs her own space, the need or want may dissipate due to cultural brainwashing or expectations, you can try and convince us otherwise, but living with in laws is seldom rarely a good idea, in islam we are advised to live apart, its one of the rights of a woman, for a good reason, even if she is convinced the latter is better for her, or that she doesn't actually want her own space, Allah has written it in the Quran for a reason, and that should be respected look after your own parents its your responsibility not hers.... she has her own parents, her duty is to them..... as a husband you should give your wife her own space so your family don't annoy her, which is what will happen when your all living under each others noses, religion comes before cultural preference no woman on earth who is not brainwashed wants to live with her in laws, if she has a choice, when you passively oppress your wife by not giving her what Allah ordained expect to be judged negatively she wants to live with my parents she wants to cook for everyone she wants to look after my parents, yeah yeah yeah, she wants to, because your culture dictates to her that is what she should do in order to be considered a 'good wife' yes i know i can't spell asain sue me..............

The only thing that will work in her case is to limit her contact with her father-in-law to the time her husband is there, and to inform her husband of the situation so he'll notice if it occurs in his presence. The thing is, though, if her husband isn't the type to stand against his father when he's wrong or doesn't usually voice any different opinions than his fathers' then the entire family will blame her of "turning their son against them" and she might even find they'll all become as nasty as the father-in-law or worse.

Okay, so I don't normally comment but in a previous relationship I felt like my potential future in laws had some kind of a problem with me, his dad would always pick on something about me and say that it wasn't good enough, or say if I questioned something that my ex questioned me on normally, it would automatically be like "why are you questioning him" even though he did it all the time. Like, they would always act like their son was completely perfect and my parents really hated it, because my parents are the type of parents that see their children's faults first so I was already getting a lot of criticism from them when I did something wrong, I didn't need someone else's criticism specially when he wasn't getting any and they barely spent time with me to know me. eventually, we broke up and it wasn't just because of that, there was other stuff wrong with the relationship but this is one of the things that I can't take.

I'm sorry if i'm understanding this wrongly but I get the impression That you are saying it is OK for blood family to treat you in what ever way they wish. I am a girl in my family and my mother and father both treat me like that property and not the daughter. Banter is one thing but when you know that your parents are being serious and whatever they say to you that is quite another. They never cease to belittle me, disrespect me and constantly remind me that they never wanted a blind short girl. My mother is absolutely terrible for doing this. When I try to talk to them about all days they never want to listen and constantly talk over me. They always seem to conveniently forget everything that they have ever said to me, insults and all. they also say that it is their right as my parents to do and say as they wish.

@MommyMariam
@MommyMariam 7 лет назад
basically when you marry a woman you have to fulfill her rights too which includes getting her own personal space. your parents have rights on you not her. so you give her, her space and take care of your parents. As people said you don't have to live with them to look after them you can visit them bring them over for some time. you could get them dinner/lunch. help in cleaning on weekends. well you can find many ways to help them if you really want. But living with them is just putting responsibility on your wives shoulder.

Is it weird that i can never relate to other Asian people (or Patan's because i am one.) its just that my family in general is so different being British and a Muslim as well, i'm sometimes appalled by hearing peoples stories about family and culture.
