Their first U.S. concert. They were a late addition to the bill. Having been a fan of the band for a few years via imported albums, and assuming this German band would never come to the U.S., I was shocked when the "Line Up" was displayed on the stadium scoreboard.

I love that through the years they never tried to fit in with any trend that was popular. They just did what they did best for decades and it still sounds great today.

Courtesy of Ole Wik': Violence outside the stadium marred the July 28, 1979 concert. There were five shootings (including one fatality), dozens of robberies and numerous incidents of violence around the stadium in the early morning hours before the concert, where thousands of fans waited overnight. The next concert featuring Foreigner, Kansas, the Cars, the Tubes, David Johansen and Breathless was originally slated for Sunday, August 19, 1979. At the request of city officials, the concert was rescheduled to Saturday night at 8:00 pm for security reasons, but after receiving many complaints from parents about the late ending time, Belkin canceled the concert. Afterwards, Art Modell, the head of Stadium Corp., stated there would be no more World Series of Rock concerts held at the stadium.

They had one the following year. The stadium still booked big shows but they were less frequent. More to do with the Cleveland Indians and Browns than violence.

I spent the night in the stadium parking lot and wasn't aware of anything but music and people partying. Oh, and that freighter that slipped into dock during the night and sounded his horn just before dawn. Getting through the turnstiles that morning was terrifying. I learned how people could be crushed or trampled to death by a crowd.

I was there too! 16 and with my friends. Got there overnight and had a blast oblivious to anything bad happening. I feel so lucky to have been at this show.

Nah, your memory is failing you. I was there, too. ACDC was the opening act.... until they slipped in the Scorpions unannounced. No one had ever heard of the Scorpions before. Then ACDC. Then 4 hours of crap--- Journey, Nugent and the headliners Aerosmith, whose set was such a disaster they broke up backstage after the show. Tyler was so coked out he forgot the lyrics. Girlfriends got in a brawl offstage. Perry and Tyler got in a loud argument afterwards, and Perry walked out. Unfortunately, they reformed years later. ACDC was awesome, that's what I came for. The rest of it was godawful. And then a monster 2-hour traffic jam to get home!

Oh the memories of Bon and the band but Bon was a good friend that always wanted to hang out when in town...I was so lucky!!! Met him the first time at the Cleveland Convention Center they were just breaking into the US scene and the other unknowns were John Cougar, Mike Stanley and shit I can't remember the other one but that's when we met

Almost a riot before the show because they wouldn't open the doors at one of the gates. People were throwing beer bottles at the building and yelling OPEN THE FUCKIN DOORS! I WAS 14 YEARS OLD AND WAS RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT. DON'T PISS OFF A CLEVELAND CROWD.

I went to a similar show called Monsters of Rock at the Oakland Coliseum that same summer. The lineup was Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, AC/DC, Mahogany Rush and St. Paradise.

They must of split the tour on the west coast then? We didn't have Mahogany Rush & St. Paradise on this leg of the tour, you got shorted? The lineup in Cleveland was Aerosmith,Ted Nugent,AC/DC,Scorpions,Journey, & Thin Lizzy.
