The second of my Pride 2020 videos is a rant about LGBT+ folk being aphobic. Sorry if it got a bit negative. We'll be back to my regularly-scheduled positivity next week :)

What gets me is that they would have the A stand for Ally before Asexual. So how is it that allies are welcome but aces aren’t??

even many bisexuals get treated like allies, and the community often treats them as straight if they're in a het relationship. lady gaga has been out as bi since the beggining of her career and people call her an ally. if the community tends to erase bi's, it erases aces even more.

Great video. Your right. The lgbt+ community includes every gender and sexuality minority. Ace, aro, gay, bi, pan, Demi, trans, intersex, etc. Everyone is included. I am bisexual myself. just know that not all allo- people in the lgbt+ community are acephobic. My ace, aro and Demi peers are all great and I hope that one day acephobes will realize that.

Some of us would rather not be members of it. Do gay people have any right to force us into a group that poorly represents us? I don't see how this is different from gay and gender-queer people wanting to be represented separately from straight people. Although at the point of exclusion I do agree, that is bad, I'd just prefer if people stopped stating that the are anymore than a half-group. We are poorly represented within the community and disrespected by the much of the community at the moment, and we have been for as long as it has existed.

Acephobia is sooo real but I don’t really go around telling ppl I’m ace bc I don’t want to deal w the gatekeeping of the lgbtq+ community nor the whole something is medically wrong w me bc I do fear my parents will/would do something about it. Before I used hide behind my religion before I knew what ace was/considered myself ace but dare god is it so comforting to know there are so many others like you. I love the ace community bc I feel it’s the most inclusive

Hey, great video! I’m glad you’re talking about the issue. I’m aro ace, and when I told my parents, my mother couldn’t understand it but supposedly accepts me anyways. But the issue that hurt me way more is my dad. He knows that I have no interest in be romantic or sexual with another person and yet, when my brother brought home his girlfriend to meet us, ever since my dad has kept saying that me and my sister will bring someone home some day, so don’t judge her. It’s not straight up oppression but it is ignorance of my identity- of who I am. Furthermore, that same girlfriend said it was ‘just a phase’. Further furthermore, I attended an lgbt club meeting at my college one day. When I told them I was ace, the guy next to me said “so how long have you’re parents known you’re gay?” This was after I explained what asexuality is. So to say we aren’t oppressed is just ignorance and lack of caring.

Great video! I recently came to terms with being a heteroromantic asexual person and have come out to 2 of my sisters (went well and was very pleasant!). I understand that I will never face systematic oppression or be denied any sort of service for my relationships (because I am "straight"), but I will fight for those who are. All gender identities and sexualities (and anything in between) are valid, the sooner we can start changing how we talk about these kinds of things in a healthy way and come together the better things will get. I will admit that I have contributed to heteronormative behaviour and even if I feel guilty it is important to identify those behaviours and internalized feelings (progress > complacency). LGBTQIA+ and BLM movement mentality go hand in hand, so we should keep educating ourselves and fight together! Have a lovely rest of your life and remember you are valid :) edit: I am biromantic now (identity is fluid!!), but my sentiment from earlier has not changed. Ace is ace you are valid! Edit: Hey I know it’s been awhile, it turns out I’m not heteroromantic, but I will always stand by my statement said earlier regarding validity. Have a nice day :)

I personally enjoy that it thumbnail includes the caveat "If they want to be". Honestly it is a bit much to expect one community to expect everybody, like sure, maybe once their done fully representing other people they'll get around to us, but we already have enough trouble representing ourselves and I'd rather not wait another hundred years for good representation. Also the fact that some aspec people want to distance us from the lgbt community due to the aphobia that comes from within it.

Fortunately in my country there's no discrimination against the asexual people from the rest of the community but I'm sure it happens in several places. We have always been here only on an invisible form, gladly everyday there's more education available and well, the future seems bright despite all of the challenges ahead.

I'm gonna be honest, I never felt part of the LGBTQ+. I don't know why exactly, but it feels like an awesome thing, but miles away from me. I love and support everyway I can, specially my friends, but maybe is because I don't get to much involved in the community in general. The most difficult people to deal for me are the older generations who can't imagine living without sex or a romantic partner. But where I live, people just don't care for real, most of the times they're gonna stray up ignore. Maybe that's why I never felt like I have to fight to be included. I kinda don't want to sometimes. Please don't hate me for this comment, it's just my personal experience. I talk here only for myself and if you don't agree that's okay ❤

Even the argument with the suppression is not really a point for ace/aro- erasing gays: There is still zero awareness probably in most places around the world. Even in wealthy countries (I am German and only coincidentally found out the spectrum exists at 24. Now I am 28 and identify as aroace.). So guess with whom we probably get mixed up if people understand we are not average? Now guess the consequences in countries where there are still err legal problems up to death penalty for anything but heteronormative sex+romance-relationship. Why do gays think only they face problems?

They are just different terms for the same thing. Personally, nowadays I prefer "GSRM" (Gender, Sex, and Romantic Minorities) because it's inclusive without having to be comprehensive. The issue I see with LGBT+ or LGBTQIA+ or any other string of letters is that it can never be fully inclusive against our growing understanding of orientation and gender identity. I use LGBT+ in regular parlance because it's easier to say, people understand what I mean, and I'm going to be excluding groups no matter what I use. I would use GSRM if people widely understood what it meant though :)
