Got an Omen RTX2060 and I had to turn off turbo boost, lower cpu voltage and add new thermal paste to keep the temperature below 70c when playing VR. My games run incredibly smooth now and besides all the extra leg work, I am super happy with my purchase!
Just found this channel. I already have a pretty good gaming laptop but I really appreciate the in-depth testing you did with this comparison! You clearly go above and beyond with testing compared to many other big reviewers. Definitely deserve more than 5000 subs! Earned a sub from me though. Great job 👍
I went with the helios love it so far got it for school and gaming on the side its charging now Merry Christmas to all and down road will upgrade storage from 256 to 1tb

I personally have a weak spot for laptops with very good data transfer rates. Even though you might not use it everyday, having a computer with Thunderbolt 3 plus a SD card reader built-in is enough to make me lean towards the HP Omen even though I am not a fan of HP products in general.
Very nice video! I have an Omen 17 2019 model and love it! With an undervolt of 150mv, temps remain in check and clocks remain around 4.2ghz without max fan. I think bang for buck Omen series and Helios are best offerings on the market
YGTV(Yassir's Gaming,Tech&Vlogs) I just commented the same thing on my 2019 17t same undervolt as you and my temps have been superb. I’m glad to hear someone else had a similar outcome with the 17t model
So you have the i9 model. I'm curious now guys! My 15" Omen was very interesting with the cooling and power limit solutions and I wonder how it works with i9 which overheats all the way even in MSI GE75 Raider which has relatively good cooling. Maybe HP uses liquid metal for this config, because it is confirmed that they use it for their Omen X2s which except for dual screen is the same as this 2019 Omen. Lower specs models like mine have normal thermal paste for sure.
Hey man your videos are solid is it possible for you to do a repaste on the CPU for Helios 300 2019 and record it? I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to see that *Edit: techfinds provided us a link to a video in my other comment on this video that can help the re-paste process!*
Unfortunately I am not permitted to repaste the laptop that I test. Also I don't have those laptops anymore since I get them for limited time only for testing purposes, sorry.
Ernest Novakhov i did a repaste on mine with help of a friend. While I do not encourage you to do it without previously having knowledge in the topic, i’ll leave this video that helped me through the whole process! Dont forget to keep an eye on how you take off the fans from the cpu and gpu, do it gently ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GVBK87p3Vuo.html

you are spot on with everything you said about the hp omen. i have only had it for about 4 months and even though when i am gaming and the cpu gets around 97C i love this laptop. i am not really a fan of acer.
Wow great video! If I may ask, can the omen get to decent thermals with undervolting? And is it's fan noise better than the predator one? Those 60dbs are tragic..
Ye, Omen was much quieter than Predator both under load with max fan speed and on idle. Undervolting is necessary for Omen to get good temperatures and it actually does a lot. Thanks for commenting!
I just got the Hp omen 17t with the 2080 and i9 9880h with 240hz panel for 2100ish dollars on Black Friday and even on performance mode it had crazy good thermals for the specs. I undervolted the cpu by .150mv and overclocked the gpu and even with stresstests I was averaging around 73 degrees on cpu on performance/maxfans. The bench marks where amazing on heaven/fire strike beating even similarly speced models with higher scores/FPS. Idk if my thermal paste was really good or what but it’s been way better than I could have ever thought for the price point. If you can live without the per RGB keybored I really haven’t seen any better laptop with those specs for that price out there. Will keep ya posted
Hey, the 17" Omen is much thicker which probably helps the temperatures. Nonetheless your temperetures are impresive considering that it runns 8-core i9 and full size RTX 2080! Great deal btw!
I got myself the HP Omen 15, great laptop, runs games like a dream. I cant compare to the predator 300, but I am happy thus far! I will however need to try the undervolting, as the HP Omen runs high temps! I also got a cheapish cooling pad, but cant say it makes a noticable difference. Great video! Best comparison ive seen so far!
@@TechFinds Sadly that seems true. I do think if you have a powerful fan pushing air into the laptop fans, it will help. I put my laptop infront of a normal fan for interests sake and it cooled it down quite a bit, but I think something of the likes cooling pad wise, would be super expensive. And if undervolting can do the trick, then that is the best bet. Will be trying the undervolting in the next day or two. Cheers!
What a great review, in depth comparisons and attention to detail, amazing. However I would say that for a better comparison, you should have undervolted the omen and overclocked the GPU to match the same "Turbo Mode" from the Helio 300 .... then it would be apples to apples rather than "turbo vs stock". I have the Omen Laptop with the same configurations, and the thermals are great for such performance and price. Around 70-80° CPU and 60° GPU on most games. Allow me to say in my channel you will find benchmark videos for the HP on a lot ofgames, so people intended to buy this laptop can have a better idea of what to expect. Thank you!
Thanks for commenting and suggestion. I think that most of users will only overclock GPU if they have a button or stock app like Predator Sense. Not everyone can use 3rd party apps etc so i'm telling what they'll be able to do with the laptop right out of the box. ;)
I'm slightly confused about battery 1. Since the Helios is the 1660, would the 2060 version perform equally 'bad' with Omen? 2. Is it possible to charge the Omen with the USB-C thunderbolt? If so would it be wise to go with Omen with an extra 3rd party powerbank instead for light work?
@@TechFinds Ouch, such a shame Anyway would it be possible to charge laptops (specifically the omen) using mobile power banks thru the DC-in? I've seen some products in e-commerce sites but dunno whether its even possible or safe to do (for light works ofc, not gaming). I believe they could provide upto 20v with multiple dongle for the DC-in
@@rezkyputra5239 unfortunately i don't know that. If charging on the go is important to you check out the Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502. It's the only gaming laptop I know that can be charged via USB-c from power bank
I have the omen 17 cb0050nr with Rtx 2080 and i've noticed the Omen Command Center Cpu temps are fake actually they have a bad Quality temp sensor if it exists the CPU temp jumps from 30 to 80 in one second i'am sure that the temps of CPU shown in Omen Command center are based on CPU usage not on the sensor when i open an app the CPU usage increases as well as the temperature in the same second and once i close the app the temp drops suddenly on Omen command center which doesn't make sense . Also i confirmed this when i read that the cpu is 86 degrees Celsius and when i put my hand on the exhaust it was blowing cold air fake temperature as i said and results in preformance drops for no reason just because they can't place a good heat sensor .
Not really, That's probably because of the app, not the sensor. If you'll download any other program to monitor the temperatures it shows accurate results. Try Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. The Command Center app is strange and as you say it's useless if you wanna check the temperatures.
@@AT93x I have to say it's pretty good it never throttled perhaps i couldn't give you accurate info about the tenps because i don't trust Omen Command Center and i haven't tried using external temperature monitoring software also i bought in in Dec and it's freezing cold and our house is exposed to the outside ( the room temp is about 11 Celsius) , but nevertheless regarding preformance it has never throttled and continues delivering solid preformance on weekends i play for 12 hours straight and no preformance drop could be observed here are some benchmarks : in Apex legends it runs on everything maxed out at about 123 FPS at minimum and when still on the ship at the beginning of the match the FPS is about 107 ~ 132 and BTW the FPS never exceeds the refresh rate in Apex when G-Sync is turned on so 144 FPS is the maximum framerate and it usually stays at 144 FPS all the time throughout the match , but when you get into a fight the FPS would drop abot 10 ~ 15 FPS i overclocked the GPU and i got a solid 144 FPS throught the match but to be honest it's not worth it i ran the game for 5 hours straight and the laptop was pulling out warm air that tends to be cool ( again i confess that's due to the very low room temps ) but i'am eager to see how it will preform in summer when connecting my Opolar Heat vaccuum to the laptop at max load the opolar reads 42 degrees Celsius . However even if the air goes warm the keyboard and the chassis is freezing cool as it's made of aluminum and separated from the components and the motherboard so for people who say they're not impressed by the build quality i have to say they're wrong and the Omen laptop is my first Full GPU laptop i've sticked to Razer and Msi , but i wanted to try a different concept this Omen is a portable Desktop but however i have to adapt with that because it's price is just catchy
In my country both have the same price Predator with gtx 1660ti, 256gb ssd,1tb hdd, i7 9gen,16gb ram and 144hz display And Omen with rtx 2060,512gb ssd, i7 9gen,12gb ram, 1tb hdd and 60hz display Which one should i buy
The undervolting you did to the Omen is the best one? So I can apply the same one to mine. I love Omen because it has a more premium design and it's much more affordable in my region than predator, I can get rtx2070mq for almost the same price of a 2060rtx predator.
I want to buy New HP Envy 15 2020 (Top Firing Speakers, 1650Ti) or New HP Omen 15 2020 or Acer Triton 300 2020 But my decision is stuck on speaker loudness, clarity & dynamic range because I'm switching from Dell XPS L502x JBL Speakers, I'm a casual gamer and processing power is more than sufficient. Please tell me which one has better Speakers ?
Well, I think it's not only about drivers but the whole experience. I liked using Omen's touchpad more and i had no concerns about elan drivers. However I bet that I could find a laptop with toichpad with windows precision drivers that i like like more :)
I have the HP Omen 15 (boosted RAM to 32 GB). Great laptop, only drawback is you really NEED TO apply a new thermal paste as with factory paste the temps go very fast into 90 and more °C. It is no fun to have a frying pan on my desk :) Other than that the laptop feels really nice, good quality build, nice keyboard, great performance, and the display is some of the best I have seen on laptops. When I was shoopping I also looked at the Helios 300 and the only reason I went with Omen was the RTX 2060. Somehow I thought it is the better choice as the tech was newer and I work a lot with 3d apps.
Hello! Good, informative video. Question: The response time of the matrix for Omen in 9 ms is very noticeable in shooters and in games in general? Thanks)
Hi.. Thanks for the review Really needed it cos I'm trying to make a decision between the two laptops for Architectural and rendering softwares. Still not sure which to pick though.. Please suggest one for me. Thanks in advance
I have a question. I dont care for small differences in performance and price of these laptops. To me build quality, screen picture quality and keyboard is important. Which should I buy?
Haha havent made my choice easier! Gr8 video tho, I am battling between i7 9th gen and 2060, 17" omen or 15" predator 300. I like bigger screen, and omen is a bit cheaper atm on amazon. I dont like all the stuff with overheating, but as you mentioned undervolting 0.130 makes a lot of difference in temp and performance remains almost untouched. I think ill go with omen, hope i wont regret. It costs $1,349.00 on amazon
17" model might be a bit cooler as it has bigger chassis so more room to breathe. However be careful to not get a model with 60Hz screen as it is often mistakenly listed as 144Hz in the USA.
@@TechFinds Hmm, I would for sure aim for 144hz, would be much disappointed to receive wrong version, and since I am from Montenegro (Balkans), It would be a hassle to return it. Guess I'll need to gamble, and aim for serious and good rated seller. Thank you for your answer :)
@@TechFinds In confort mode and in normal mode the CPU power can up to 80w 😅(when I run stress bench with CPU Z), and for the XTU who did you instal it, I tried several times but never succeeded I am always stuck when launching the application. Based on your review, what laptop feels better for making gaming videos? Sorry I dont know much with laptops yet, I am a mobile gaming RU-vidr cause my pc sucks, now that i have the money to buy both laptops, what laptop do you recommend for recording gaming videos?
I think that anything with GTX 1660Ti and above will be good, but if you wanna more power for future AAA games then i recommend something with RTX 2070 to play on high settings. I think that the best performing laptop that i had in 2019 was the MSI GE65 Raider (RTX 2060). This is probably the maximum you can squeeze from this GPU, but you can get it with RTX 2070 and 2080 as well.
Hey Tech Finds... I'm still kinda confused with my choice between omen and helios especially with that thunderbolt deal breaker...Is it really worth choosing omen over helios 300 ?
Hi . Thanks a lot for your impressive pro comparison. In term of thermals wich hp omen 15 is the best . Is it this 2019 one on this video or the last hp omen 2019 also with rtx 2060 and i7 9750H but with 2018 external looking and chassis ? Therefore wich one of those two laptops has better thermals during gaming from your own experience?
You said it's an all-aluminum build, and many youtubers same the same. However, any written review I could find outside of youtube( such as notebookcheck and extremetech) says only the deck was metal, and everything else - plastic. I'd assume the laptops you and they reviewed are the same(Omen 2019, reviews done in last 4 months of 2019) What could the reason for this difference be? The reviews were for the 17 inch version, could that be it?
Well, idk how about this 2019 Omen but sometimes it happens that brands use different materials to the 17" versions. What I can say is that you can be sure that the 15" model of 2019 omen is full-metal. Edit: if I remember good OwnOrDisown made a video review on a 17" of this black Omen, maybe he mentioned materials too.
@@TechFinds Yeah, he said the same about the 15 inch he owns, as well as about the 17 inch he reviewed. It's really odd, so I also messaged one of the review sites to see their take on it( they have said their 15 inch versions were also a mix of metal and plastic in their reviews)
In my country I got the omen 15 2019 (red chassis) with i5-9300h, RTX 2060, 144hz screen (comes with g-sync) and 8gb ram + 8gb more added for about $1000USD. What do you think? Was it worth it? I’m mainly only going to be gaming, so the i5 should be good since the difference between the i5 and i7, when it comes to gaming, is basically nonexistent (from what I know).
I think it's a good price. I got few reports that there is about 10-15% difference in performance between i5 and i7, especially in CPU dependent games.
Great content, if only you talked instead of using a voice program.. it may help your channel grow.. Great editing too, it wouldnt hurt to see you on screen thouu

Hello, I want to know your opinion, I want to buy a laptop, I am between the Acer predator Helios 300 2019 "gtx1660ti" or the Hp Omen 15 2019 "gtx1660ti", what has me still undecided is the temperatures first, I would like to know if the hp are As bad as they say or without a doubt they have almost the same cooling as the Acer, and another aspect is the battery. I need the laptop to take to the university for about 5 or 6 hours of surfing the Internet and one or another basic process. You who think, thank you.
What should I choose if I want to buy from ACER PREDATOR TRITON 300 & HP OMEN. I'M Going to buy one of them so please if you suggest it will be really appreciated. Getting HP for 947$ & Triton for 895$ not much difference.

Both will handle such kind of games with ease, but if you wanna bring the laptop to the class i think that Predator will be better as it has longer battery life. Other than that both are the same good for school ang the games you mentioned, so consider the price difference and make your choice.
Just got my HP Omen 15 (dh-0004ng) for 1800€ and it‘s 🔥🔥🔥 and I‘m having no thermal problems yet.. and now I want to undervolt my Laptop for longer life (cuz it was pretty expensive)💥
Excellent review. seems like Acer has nailed it with their balanced laptop. Now with RTX 3060 graphics. Only wish they did a AMD 5800 processor version, that would be better on temps as well.
Hey do u know how to deal with power limit throttling, my predator 300 2019 has the problem, however I didn't feel any weak of its performance,it acts as a beast
First you have to know about the maximum limits of your machine. On turbo mode the CPU power limit is 56W, so if your processor will try to go over this then limit throttling will kick in and that's normal. There's no performance loss whatsoever. Without turbo the limit is 45W. But if your laptop for some reason goes under 45W with the limit then it's not normal (at least for this laptop). Some laptops have different modes that limit the CPU power even to 30W like Omen, but you can go performance and the CPU works with it's full power.
I had two of omen laptop with gtx1660ti,i7 9750.With first of them few button on keyboard has stop to work.I sent back to the store where i buy it and they sent me another brand new laptop(same model). With that laptop after 2 week of use,one day it just stop work and start to smoke from inside of laptop, near charger adapter conector.I been in shock.I sent back again to the store, and after three weeks of waiting they offer me to send me same model of omen laptop or Predator helios 300....gues what... i give up from hp omen...tottal disappointing of omen
What about the durability and the components build quality, you misses these 2 aspects! Hp well knows with it's hight durability (usa company), in the other side acer, lenovo are Chinese companies which know by cheaper build quality components. what do you think about this?
Actually I mentioned build quality in the video. If it comes to parts other than chassis it's not like X brand laptop will die faster than Y brand laptop because it's made of Chinese parts. These are all high quality laptops, and you pay for them a lot so you can expect good quality. However as all the laptops are only electronics things you can't predict longavity. Always something can go wrong no matter the brand. Since i had these laptops for approximately 2 weeks only it's hard to review longavity. ;)
Nice, can you have review on Acer predator helios 300 15.6", Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB), 256 GB SSD/1 TB HDD, VR Enabled and the new version of HP OMEN 15-dc1009nx Gaming Laptop15.6", Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (8 GB), 512 GB M.2 SSD/1 TB HDD..thanks
Hi. Excellent video. I would like to know how you did the undervolt to Omen, would it be advisable to also undervolt the GPU? I just bought an MSI GL65 9SD laptop, and I have temperature problems, maybe I will solve it with the CPU and GPU undervolt. I'm looking for tutorials about it. On the other hand, I wanted to place an order, could you make a video of Disassembly and Upgrade (SSD / HDD / RAM) of the MSI GE65? (It is similar to mine, and I would like to make the improvements, and I have not seen videos about it, nor change thermal paste)
Hi, here you have a CPU undervolting guide made by my brother: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mTzChOt3s5Y.html There is no sense to undervolt the GPU as it stays cool. You can do the same to your MSI GL65, but that's strange that your unit runns hot, because this laptop has the best cooling that I've seen for years. How high are your temperatures?
@@TechFinds I also found it very strange, since I previously had an asus laptop of 2016, obviously less powerful and a minimal cooling system compared to the msi, and I had no problems with the same game with which I tested the laptop. and the performance with respect to fps was lower, but not a huge difference. (Dota2) The maximum temperatures I got were 93 ° C in CPU, and 87 ° C in GPU, and it was for the first minutes, since when I saw the temperatures and felt the keyboard excessively hot, I had to close the game. I would not like to send it as a guarantee yet, because the service is in another city, and it would take a long time for them to give me a solution, so I am looking for solutions that I can do myself. And if it doesn't work, if I would send it under warranty. At the moment I do not have my laptop, because I am traveling, but I really appreciate the tutorial you sent me, the method is well understood, I will apply it when I return (I forgot to mention that when those temperatures were presented, the fans were also at high revolutions, emitting enough noise, it seems to me that it was 6400rpm)
@@kevmalaga1872 Sometimes it happens to get a defective unit where they applied the thermal paste incorrectly or simply the paste is not good guality. It was a great offer to buy Scar 2 with RTX 2070 for only $1350. You won't get omen with such powerful GPU for that low price, so Scar 2 is better deal imo. Also Scar 2 has full power RTX 2070 while 15" Omen has RTX 2070 Max-Q (10% weaker)
