In this vid I review the Hobo Pieces Restuvus (www.hobopieces.com/product/the-restuvus) a nicely made CNC aluminum big gadget that adds saddle loops to any saddle letting you use Carradice style saddle bags.

Hi there from Manchester UK -- What this gizmo tries to solve, at considerable expense, can be more easily solved for free (or nearly so) by zip tying a piece of dowel slightly wider than your saddle width to the saddle rails. Take the dowel, two stout zip ties (cable ties) and cross fasten the dowel to the saddle rails, either inside the rails or outside them. 'Job's a good'un' as they say in Mankyland. If you want to swank it up, finish the ends of the dowel by wrapping then with twine and than shellac them, old school style. Now that is supple, and free, and you can position the dowel either closer to, or farther from, the seat post, effectively raising the bag higher to clear the wheel/fender or moving down and under the back of the saddle (closer to the bike's centre of gravity. Cheers for now, 'The Fossil'

You need to be a better social media influencer to get that sort of simple elegance across; needs to be monetisation somewhere in the equation. 😉

To everyone who thinks this is too expensive. Stop complaining and go make your own. Get a couple of pieces of metal and clamp them together with some hose clamps. Test ride it, and make some adjustments. Get a set of taps and run some threads in there for some bolts. You might have make a couple of prototypes before you get it right. When you are done, you'll either be happy with your creation or wished you would have just spent the $70.

70 dollars? This is a fine example why a lot of things in cycling are just too expensive compared to what they actually do. To me that is just too expensive for this product.

Long long ago I made a device to hang a saddlebag from an Ideale 90 saddle. It was a piece of 3/4 inch aluminum bar stock with some holes drilled for two small u-bolts that attach to the saddle rails and two slots cut with a hacksaw and a bit of file work. total cost would be just a couple of bucks. Now that you have reminded me of such things I am going to make another one and attach it to my Terry Fly on my "fast" bike.

Leo - Did your Ideale saddle have the steel, Ti, or alloy rails? I have an Ideale 90 with the vertical alloy rails that are a challenge to mate to...
@leonwebster4296

@@goldcoastjon I think they were either steel or alloy. Certainly not Ti. Most likely steel.

Way too expensive! What is that cool little Allen ratchet tool you attach it with? I love my cambium C15. Comfortable from day one...I call it an ass hammock.

As much as I can appreciate a simple implementation, that pricetag is beyond ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing expensive about the product itself. Construction is basic, calculating the weight limitation is super easy for this case and I was able to spot a very not-nicely machined edge in the compressed video. The most expensive thing about this is the material and the anodizing. Make it 20-30$ and it would be a fair enough margin, but 70?

You can do the same thing Bobbin saddle bag loops or Carradice Cyclo Loops which cost next to nothing.

A cautionary note anyone one thinking this will fit the Brooks Ti Swallow which curiously unlike their Swift Ti does not get Ti bag loops, the HOBO is too narrow for the optimum position on the Swallow and just sit awkwardly when compromised . Another observation despite being made of alloy this this is heavy another consideration for the ultra lighter . As for the zip tie and dowel , that's a no no on a bespoke limited edition Ti Swallow . Just wish the original CYCLO bag loop had a Titanium update !

@MattBeindorff

Nice! But you could also get a Carradice bagman with integrated quick release to match your Carradice bag. I use it with my Nelson long flap and it's a neat solution to also get your bag off the bike without undoing the straps.
@MattBeindorff

Can you run the Bagman without the support? If you were looking for just loops and were relying on a rear rack, that is one specific instance where this might make more sense.

Thanks for reviewing this. I too love the Carradice bags but struggled with how to easily take it on and off my Brooks. I finally found the Nitto R50 (Rivendell sells them). They ain't cheap but not that much more then these guys and it has been a super good solution for me.
@richardelsdon2027

The bagman can run with or without the support. I guess the difference with this is the angle of the support, and how/where you have space on your rails.
@67paulst
@67paulst 6 лет назад
You can. They actually sell them without the support. Although I've read of people easily removing the support bar and just leaving the QR bracket. I ordered on and it looked perfect for what I wanted (being able to get the bag off the bike quickly without a lot of annoying buckling and unbuckling) but it didn't fit on my B17. Doing further research it seemed like the Bagman was Carradice's answer to attaching the bag to non Brooks saddles. The Bagman worked amazing on every other saddle I own and I ended up selling it to a friend who is loving it. The Nitto ended up being a great solution for me. One rub is that the bag ends up being just a smidge farther back. This certainly solves the issue of brushing against it with your legs but I needed a slightly longer seat post strap to make it work.

Interesting and innovatiove add-on saddle-loop. Would it work with an Ideale 90 alloy-rail saddle? I'd have to buy longer bolts, of course...

this thing is so close to being cool.... as some others have said, why not just get a Bagman? ive been using those for years now no problem. if Hobo built this with a bag support loop(ala Bagman), id be all in for it.... but like this? nope. bag would be slamming the majority of us in the legs. but thats just me. its so close.......
@PathLessPedaledTV
@PathLessPedaledTV 6 лет назад
Can you run the Bagman without the support? For my commuter bike with a rack, the support might actually interfere.
@scootcore1
@scootcore1 6 лет назад
I THINK some of the older ones you could pull the lower support "loop" off. I also want to say that bagman made something very similar to the hobo in the past as well(I want to say Swift used to sell it... but maybe it was more of an after the fact addition for people who had older ones without the built in strap loops)... the newer bagman, you cannot pull the lower bag support loop off, its welded on. that I know for sure...
@scootcore1
@scootcore1 6 лет назад
I suppose if you've already got a rack to support your bag, this may be the bee's knees...... especially if clearance is an issue.... id just be REALLY stoked on a MUSA version of the bagman thats easier to install(the hobo appears that way) and has the quick release capability(its a really nice touch, especially when changing a rear flat, cool to get that extra weight off...!)..... BUT, I also can imagine that its not exactly an item people are clamoring for...!

A solution to a problem that was already solved and one that costs more $ The only distinguishing selling point is the appearance, which for many might be worth the extra dollars. You say the V.O. solution is flimsy, do you know of failures?
