This video summarizes my tips for installing a Mitsubishi MHK2 Thermostat to better control temperatures produced by a Mitsubishi MSZ FS 9k Mini-split ductless heater. As will become obvious, I am not a professional and cannot guarantee that this is the correct or best way to do this work; instead, I am merely sharing what I have figured out for others who have a DIY mentality, having wished for a video like this to help when I got started.

I have 4 Mitsubishi MSZ-FS wall units. 2 are FS06, one is FS09, and the other is FS12. For those who have this model, have they given off a weird odor when in cooling mode? All 4 of mine give off a weird stench. And believe me, we’ve had these units checked for mold countless times and they come back clean. I’ve used coil cleaner and bleach water as well as some deodorize tablets and yet this darn smell is still there literally a day after applying these cleaners. I’ve read it has to do with the condensation that occurs on the coils after cooling the room. The first time we had this weird smell was literally a week or two after they were installed. Just curious if anyone has had this type of issue with the smell they give off and if you have any ideas I could try. The installers and other HVAC folks have not been able to identify this weird smell. Also, curious what brand you use for your condensation pump for these models. Mine are 230v Aspen Orange for all 4 heads.

I haven't used ours in cooling mode yet, so don't have any data to share there, but maybe others will.

@@bradchamberlain5249ok, when you do, I would love to hear your experience with it. Hopefully you don’t have to go through any weird smells from your side.

The unit shouldn’t be mounted so close to the ceiling it will restrict the return air and prematurely damage the unit, Mitsubshi code is 5 inches minimum

Our units' installation instructions seem to suggest a clearance of 3-3/8" above the top of the mounting plate.
