i know this is old maybe you can help tho! 04 silverado 4.8 W/T i got no power windows or power locks . Can i add DIC to my truck? i'm trying to see my gas mileage and all. THANKS!
@xikiloz8193 I'm not 100% sure about the w/t model but I think it is possible. You need to either reprogram your Custer with a tech 2 device or just find a Custer that has these options from the factory. Try ebay or a local junk yard. Hope this helps and good luck 🙂
@@T_B_C_L i got one from the junkyard but it didn't pull up gas mileage or anything. however it had driver 1 and alll on there some things mines didn't have. I'm just trying to figure out if i can see my Mpg and miles to a tank lol. Also thank you for the response
@xikiloz8193 the key is getting one that has those options. GM went all crazy different on many trucks. If you can pull one from a truck that you can look that Vin up to see what the truck had from factory, would be best. You can use a Vin look up website like this www.free-vin-decoder.com/
After I installed my steering wheel buttons, I had a lot of problems trying to get the PAC to stay programmed. I then got an iDataLink Maestro SW, and it worked first time, and it's been rock solid. The programming was far easier as well, because it's done with a Web interface on your computer. This is super convenient for dual assigning buttons. For example, I have my Seek buttons to go forward and back on tracks for short press, but then forward and back on albums for long presses.
I did not have any luck with the pac SWI-CP2. I just ordered the Maestro SW. Can you tell me what wires you used to bypass the the canbus? I have already located the green wire on the clock spring and the resistance changes with each button press. The maestro should be here tomorrow. Any help with the wiring would be appreciated. Thank you.
I know this is an old video, but my horn wasn’t working and luckily found this. I did mine just as yours, roughed up the brass and added solder and it’s working now. Thanks
Thank you for this video! Although i have the pac swi-rc1, i tapped into the green wire in the harness from underneath the steering column with the light blue wire from the pac swi-rc1 harness, then the black and red wire to ground and acc power respectively. I programmed the pac manually. Then connected the jack to the swc behind the pioneer headunit. Worked flawlessly!
Question for either of you, I have a alpine double din touch screen and just did the whole swap myself with no luck on steering wheel controls working, I have everything hooked up and wired pac up the way pac says to no avail any help would be appreciated. * Further background it was basic steering wheel swapped clock spring and wheel *
@@maxbrino7050 I would start by checking the button press resistance coming off of the green wire you tapped into. Make sure the resistance is indeed changing when you press one of the buttons. If it does change then most likely you are good to that point and the clockspring and steering wheel was installed correctly. You could then move on to troubleshooting you wiring of the pac. Hope this helps!
Thank You for the video! I have a Chevy Silverado 2003, my dealership didn't want to flash my cluster with new VCI (to unlock the RPO), but with your explanation, i dont mind that the mileage, and gas info works... I just want to be able to control the stereo functions (change songs and answer phone calls!) (have new stereo and iDataLink Maestro SW instead of PAC)!!!
Yup that's exactly my setup. If you really wanted the other functionality in the cluster you could get a cluster from a truck at wrecking yard that had those features and it would work.
@@T_B_C_L i have a cluster that has all the functions... But then again... My dealership wont flash my cluster (im in Monterrey, Mexico) so, i need to wait to the border to be open so I can go to Texas and get my cluster flashed... I also changed my passenger window control so now I can also have info on the tires pressure.
hey bud, I got a question. Did you have to take your truck to the dealer to get the steering wheel programed? Or do you not need to do that if you connect a PAC and aftermarket radio?
No need for the dealer unless you want to flash the cluster. If you only want stereo controls, volume (all the upper buttons on the steering wheel) then the pac and aftermarket radio is all you need!
hwydrifter unfortunately you are correct.... If you want the dic to work you either need to have it flashed at the dealer or pick up a used one that came with it from the factory from a junk yard
Would it be cheaper if I just install a whole steering column that already had the clock spring and steering wheel controls found one on offerup for 140
That's a decent price but you need to make sure the clock spring is not Damaged! If the steering wheel is not locked down it can over rotate damaging the actual clock spring!
Great video man. I just did the steering column and steering wheel swap but am having an issue. In your video you said the interface has to be analog and not CANBUS. Do you know why that is? I ask because my previous non SWC set up was a Crux SOCG-17C interface which is just a chime interface. I ordered the Crux CS-GMC2 which is their SWC interface. This comes with a wire that you plug into the back of the head unit instead of tapping into the harness. I’m getting a trouble light that says “CAN not recognized”. That’s why I ask why it has to be analog instead of CANBUS because this interface is supposed to be plug and play. I called Crux and they weren’t much help.
In order to use the cabus option, you would have to have the bcm flashed by the dealer to turn on this function. By tapping into that wire and utilizing the analog option ,you bypass this step. Hope that makes sense.
Hello. This is great! I found all the parts, but I got stuck trying to disconnect the clock spring. How did you research how to disconnect the buzzer switch and the large connection under the steering column?
The buzzer switch (heard someone else call it that) is the little white connection near the ignition cylinder. It sits right behind the Small black connection. Yes the large one- got it unlocked but can’t seem to pull it loose.
Jason Sanders I believe the wires you are talking about are for the ignition lock. This is a bit of tricky one. There is a tab on the inside (closest to the middle of the column) that needs to be depressed. Use a very small screwdriver for this. It will pop right out!! As far as the pug if I remember correctly it should have a handle you need to move one way or the other and it should come right out!
Can you make one of the buttons do something else like I wanna put 2 step on my truck and I want either the voice or prog button to activate the 2 step
That all depends on the control adapter you use. Axxess I believe has the ability to have double press buttons. I did this a long time ago so I'm sure there are many more options nowadays.
I know you did this video a long time ago. But did you have problems with windshield wiper and washer controls after changing the harness? I have a 2004 and I ordered the same part as you did.
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra. I gor a steering wheel with controls out of a 2003 sierra and a cadillac cluster. My question to you is what harness an i going to have to change out?
The steering wheel from a 2000 is different then that of a 2003 so I'm gonna guess the harness is different to. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think those are interchangeable.
Nathan Clark only the buttons on the top are able to be programmed. The bottom buttons will only work if you replace the cluster with one that came from the factory with steering wheel controls or you have your cluster flashed.
@@stephenhunt39 man I missed a lot of questions. Sorry for late reply but a gm dealer would have to flash the actual Guage cluster or you could go to a junk yard and get a cluster out of a truck that had steering wheel controls from the factory.
Hope you figured it out. All of a sudden a bunch of comments that I've never seen before just popped up. Some going back years ago. Sorry if I missed it man. Definitely was not trying to ignore anything. RU-vid and it's algorithms 🙄 yes you need a separate adapter.
It's only for radio controls. You would have to swap th cluster for one that came with the these functions from the factory or have your cluster flashed to have these functions.
hello, im little confused if i change steering wheel and harnes with the controls one will it work without any another hardwares ? i have factory radio and i have changed the cluster to 2006 year so it should have the steering controls programed right ?
If you want the extra cluster functions you need a cluster that came from the factory with those functions or have yours flashed. If you want your factory radio to work with the steering wheel controls, you need to have the bcm flashed to support this function. Of course this is all after adding proper clockspring harness and steering wheel with controls. If you have an aftermarket radio you need to ad a steering wheel controls adapter and tap into that green wire as I mentioned in the video. If you go that route then bcm does not need to be flashed. Hope this all makes sense 😊
Honestly man I have no idea. I'm thinking it probably would but your best bet would be to get an entire steering column with steering wheel from a salvage yard at a cheap price to try it. I will say, if you get it to work, that would make for a great video. Good luck!
I did the same procedure. But now I have two problems. 1) the windshield wipers and washer don’t work and when I put the key into acc. I can’t operate the windows.
Wow that's weird! Maybe check the main plug an make sure you fully seat that lever that goes around the entire plug, that's what locks it in place. I'm sure you gotta have a bad connection somewhere.
Honestly I don't recall getting that light.... If I did I probably just cleared the code. I will say I don't recall having any issues with the air bag light though.
Unfortunately no but it is possible! You need to either have the dealer flash your cluster or get a cluster from a junk yard that had all those functions than they will work!

Hey.. my names Joseph and I was hoping to get some info from you about your steering wheel controls. So I know you changed the steering wheel and clockspring but did you have yo do anything with the bcm..? Like get a new one or get it programmed..? Thanks
You won't need anything done to bcm as long as you are using an aftermarket radio. If you want upgraded info from your cluster now that will need to be flashed or replaced with one that had this from the factory. Hope this makes sense 😊
Just got done this swap, very straight forward. I have yet to get my cluster flashed for DIC and install my SWI-RC. But should my buttons illuminate with the rest of the dash at night? Or will getting the cluster flashed and the pac Installed supply power to the buttons after?
If you did the clockspring swap then the lights on the steering wheel should be illuminated. Make sure you check all your connections and test your other steering wheel functions like blinker windshield wipers, horn ect.

@@driggersoutdoors3902 yea that is odd maybe try checking the air bag connection. My steering wheel was new as well as the clockspring and I had no issues. Could be maybe the wheel was out in the weather a little to much! Wish I could help more.

Just put the SS trailblazer steering wheel on with the controls ( Exact same look and fitment as the silverado wheels) Im just wondering if you happen to know if i were to put the 03 Clock spring harness in my 99, would it plug right in? or no? what are your thoughts on this.. All i want is for it to light up and to be able to control music. Thanks man!
I'm not sure honestly. I do know the steering wheels are different from a 99 to a 03-04. If it was me I would try to find an entire complete steering column from like a junk yard for cheap. Then you can see if the plugs are different or maybe you could even peice the 2 together to make it work.
Pre 2003 bodystyle had completely different electrical systems in them. The steering wheel controls post 2003 use can bus networks to function hence the reason you need a module to utilize them with an aftermarket radio. Not sure it's possible to use a newer steering wheel without having the harness and control modules.
I am not talking about the PAC. The factory radio harness you removed from the back of the radio to the Pioneer radio. I used a Crux CS-GMC2 and this wiring harness will not work with the PAC. Thanks for the fast reponse
Yes, you will most likely have 1 or 2 plugs (I can't exactly remember how many ) left over that is for quadrasteer. Everything else should plug right in.
Yeah, in order to get the controls to work on the dash you basically have to go to the dealer or possibly some J2534 programmers may be able to enable the feature. The DIC is not that informative, so aftermarket radio controls is making sense to me. :) Thanks for the video.
@@T_B_C_L I already have a Denali with all of the features. It also has trans temp gauge. I could move that over with the steering wheel and everything would work? Do the clusters or PCMs store the mileage count?

Yes as long as the clock spring has not been broken so make sure the steering wheel is pulled out and locked as to not over rotate and break the clock spring!
This is mainly for radio controls but it is possible to control the Guage cluster. You would have to to have your cluster flashed or get a cluster from a vehicle that had steer wheel controls from the factory.

Hi, The video straight to the point 👌🏻. I have my 2004 Yukon, When I have checked the price for the harness it was ~ $245 is this the actual price? Also from where I can get the wheel steering itself.
Yea those clockspring harnesses are expensive so that sounds right. I did try to find a steering wheel awhile back and it seems they are discontinued so they are hard to find. I think those years are just getting to old now, so these manufacturers are not making these parts anymore.
Yes unfortunately it is. This was my situation and made the install much more difficult, but as you can see I was able to get it done. I just took my time and transferred all the connections one at a time from the old harness to the new harness.
If you don't have an aftermarket alarm either way would be easy. I will say, if you are looking into a used clockspring changing entire column might the way to go.

You don't have a green wire on the white din plug that goes into the swi-rc? You should only use the black (chassis ground) red (12v switched) green (goes to pin b31 on the steering column harness plug. If you don't have that green wire maybe you received a used swi-rc that someone messed with.

I have a 03 Silverado gonna switch out with a tbss steering wheel my truck has a vipar alarm i know I need to switch out clock spring but why would it be more difficult to do with a vipar alarm I thought it was just plug in the new clock spring wiring?
It's more difficult because half the alarm wires are connected to the clockspring. So you have to transfer all of those wires to the new clockspring as you are removing and installing the new clockspring. It's not impossible just a pita.
@@Cesarramirez-vj5ww yea the clockspring is just plug and play. The only problem I had was near the ignition lock I believe. It was kinda tricky. I just took my time and figured it out. Other than that it's pretty simple.
It's been a long time since I did this but I believe you are referring to a plug with like 6 wires all different colors. If so that is for the quadsasteer and will not be used. Just tuck it away.
It's been so long man I can't say for sure but maybe you are talking about the I believe single wire plug. If so, It may be where the Ignition cylinder is.
