With this project we are taking chain drive to the next level and seeing how well it works with 4WD and large 32" tires. I've had great success with the chain drive setup on the CBR1000 buggy so with this project I want to build it again but this time we are making it 4WD with big 32" tires and its a two seater. we are using a T90 transmission as a transfer case to give us high/medium/low range and reverse.

I haven't read all the comments so I may be repeating BUT, I would swap the front shocks and have the hoses/fittings going to the inside of the frame to protect them against rollovers, tree limbs, obstacles and protect those reservoirs. Just a thought. Looks absolutely amazing, you do awesome work.

This thing's going to be an absolute beast! I can't wait til we get to the engine part 😁😁😁😁 doors turned out awesome too. You could do such a simple handle and cable latch system with a sprung rod or flat bar into a hole or slot. I'd probably run the shock reservoirs under the frame too just incase 👀 it would protect them from branches any unwarranted contact

@LoneWolf0648
@LoneWolf0648 Год назад
this thing is becoming a beast, great job. i would consider adding a cross bar between the tops of the front shocks because they will put a LOT of squeezing force on those bars and a cross bar would get rid of that while possibly being part of the top radiator mount.

Dude this thing is awesome. When you were moving the wheels around up front to get the new bars in down bottom, we really got to see what it would look like smashing woops and articulating. This builds great. I also am a massive supporter of a turbo. Youre gonna want this thing to make stupid power, not just plenty of power. You should try to get this thing eventually into a big name race. Like a vegas to reno nv poker run or something. Maybe hooptie x, the mint 400, etc.

10:08 mount the spare tire over the front end! It’ll throw some weight over the front to slightly even out the weight distribution. I have a feeling this thing is going to be wheelie happy. You could even try and recess the width of the tire below the “hood line” for better visibility
@bryduhbikeguy
@bryduhbikeguy Год назад
The roof..the roof...the roof would be 'fire'...(Couldn't help it.)It's out of any view.
@Ghryst
@Ghryst Год назад
@@bryduhbikeguy the roof would add to instability. over the front tyres is how it should be from a physics perspective. i like the recessed hood idea, it lowers that gravity some more, but the shocks are the high point already and cant be moved, so, it makes sense to mount a spare to that point
@eriklarson9137
@eriklarson9137 Год назад
Watch some off-road centered channels. Let me know how many vehicles you see with a spare on the front. The number will be less than zero.
@kuhlay
@kuhlay Год назад
@@eriklarson9137 there aren’t very many rear engine trophy trucks. Side by sides, sand rails, buggies, etc being the only exceptions, although technically not trophy trucks. I only suggested a front mounted tire setup to bring more weight over the nose of the vehicle. Any jumping or high speed whoops should buck the front end up and cause instability issues. Yes, the tire would be a big obstacle to get the frame around and will inhibit vision to the nose of the vehicle, but at higher speeds you shouldn’t be watching the nose of your vehicle, instead you should be looking ahead. I understand that it’s a super awkward position, but this is an always build.
@Ghryst
@Ghryst Год назад
@@eriklarson9137 because those cars are not as rear heavy as this buggy is going to be.. as it stands, he doesnt even intend to skin it. also, those other cars are not as small as this one, which will make a difference - tis will have a huge power-to-weight ratio, wihth huge tyres, and not much other weight at all. even if its not as powerful as those other cars by pure HP. this thing is going to slam its hood ojn the ground behind it if he doesnt address tht issue. he mentioned a radiator, but i dont think 10kg of aluminium and water will help much. on top of all that, he intends to rock-climb with it? thats exactly where you need very even weight distribution. your fallacy of false equivalence is invalid. #BasicPhysics
@colbygillette

10:00 you should round the back of the frame to the curve of the tire and drop the tire down almost behind the motor

@Ghryst
@Ghryst Год назад
he wants to crawl rocks in it, tyre should be over the front wheels in a rear-mounted engine setup.. needs to spread that weight or he'll roll backwards down some boulders. personally, thats what i'd do, and i'd chop off the extra length at the rear, leave just enough to protect the engine and maybe mount a 2-way aerial back there

Love following this build. You should check latch mechanisms from a RZR or X3. I think they’d work good with your setup even tho those are usually Suicide doors. Also, as an X3 owner the doors just flapping open or close sucks. A lot of guys put small shock dampeners on them.

Lookin' good bud. Spare tire. Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. The tube you have the shock reservoirs sitting on now, I would, if I were doing this build, but I'm not, mount the reservoirs on the inside edge of that tube and the res line under the cross tube to protect them. Awesome looking build.

With this information it may be easier to picture the minimal bracing required. On the bench part so old project consequences don't hurt as much. Well done on your videos. Your volume stability has always been a plus above some that crank it up for musical interludes.

26:14 Not that I've done a CFD analysis, but I don't think you need those additional tubes connecting the shock/spring mounts to the rest of the frame. The tubes they're attached to now are already cross-braced and in tension. I think it's good as is. More tubes would just be more weight for overbuilt strength.

@Ghryst
@Ghryst Год назад
that stiffness in the doors now, is a lack of rattling later. no need for plastic insert collars. but where the shocks connect to the bends at the top of the X bar, there needs to be a pipe joining the two bars at the shock mount points. its only 6-9 inches of tube, not much weight, but will strengthen those shock mounts incredibly. love the X shaped viewed from the front, looks fully sick brah, just needs a subwoofa

First, put a bend in those bottom braces to allow a little more room between tire and frame, second, I dont believe a spare would be neccesary, if a tire goes, it is probably caused by something worse. Awesome work!
