This one has been a request I get reasonably frequently and I finally had the opportunity to address it. I had this engine out to make for good visibility so I could show how a PTO clutch is adjusted for many International and Massey Ferguson tractors.

Dave, you make it look easy, try doing that up through the inspection plate. We also found that the heads on the adjustment screws on the pressure plate fingers will become worn and if you turn these screws a quarter turn then a new surface will be used and PTO will engage properly. This was problem occurred more on tractors used with front end loaders.

Thanks for the tip on the lever bolts! Loader tractors definitely take more abuse to the clutch. Thanks for watching!

Great to know. As I was watching I wondered, jumpins do you have to split the tractor. Any way, great video, hope you had a good Canada day weekend.

Yes. Thank you for this video. Your other one of MF 175 2 stage clutch assembly was helpful as well. I'm still having trouble really understanding how these two stage clutches work to understand the "why" on the adjustments - if you have a written explanation or can do a video that explains how the components work as the clutch pedal is pressed in or let out that would be useful for some of us.

The 3 bolts he adjusted, screw into the main clutch pressure plate, as the main clutch disc wears that pressure plate will move forward and cause the 3 bolts to be further away from the PTO pressure plate, dictating their readjustment.

Its tight but you should be able to get to it through the inspection plate on the bottom of the clutch housing. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much Dave. This is super informative and clear. I have a 1966 IH B414 that my dad is its first owner. You mentioned it can be done via the clutch's inspection plates. Sorry for the dumb question but where are they located? TIA

Dave, exactly what i needed for my 444.. i was about to split it for the first time but i will try thru the inspection plate first. The trans clutch works fine, the pto clutch doesn't work at all.. Any chance of showing how to replace the pto lever on a 444? Mine broke off and i have the new one.. you explained it once to me but a video would be easier to understand.. Wish u were near me in Michigan! Thanks for the vids, i watch them all. - steve

FIXED! Dave, today I got under there... Rotated the engine by hand found the three adjusting bolts as you indicated. There was way too much clearance. I adjust them down to .80 as you said. I then adjusted almost all of the play out of the clutch pedal, and then with someone standing on the clutch pedal as hard as they could I use a hammer to bang on the clutch and it split apart. I tested it and it seems to be working... First time in years. It sat in a barn for years and I think the clutch just corroded together. Thanks! ( Oh, and I did it through the inspection plate). That alone makes up for all the smoke you guys sent last week, wow that was thick here! :)

cast iron plate on the pressure plate, the carbon is in the release bearing. Those pieces aren't available separately so you will likely have to buy a complete pressure plate. Thanks for watching!

I'm not familiar with a 616 but if it's the tractor in your profile picture it looks a lot like a 414. I understand in the UK there was a 6 cylinder version, your 616 may be one like that. Thanks for watching!
