A couple things the video doesn't mention, unless I missed it is clutch finger adjustment, or measuring runout on the flywheel. Also, if your going to go through the arduous task of splitting a tractor of this age it would probably be a good idea to replace the rear main seal too. Good video however thanks.

Young Lady , I'm so happy to hear you say "throw out bearing, yes mam , and not a clutch release bearing , another thing you stated the adjustment may have been out causing the problem .... but when some one...oh I'm not saying this is what happened , but when you have someone riding with their foot riding the clutch pedal the very same thing will happen ,I think you are great thanks for having a video's out like this one...Philippine John

When tightening down the pressure plate, lift just a little bit on the alignment tool. Everything is sagging a bit, and you want to counter that. Get the clutch disk adjusted so you can pull the alignment tool out with a couple of fingers. Good show, good clear communication, probably one of your best presentations so far.
@andrewsmith941
@andrewsmith941 7 месяцев назад
I was thinking the same thing. If you have to pull it out and it has very much resistance it could be out of line and binding.

Another great video!!!! I was watching this one, and my dad started to watch it with me, and he said at the end of the video... "I now want to buy a clutch."... Mind you, he doesn't own a tractor, he was just that impressed with your channel and high class presentation of how you all make things look so possible and easy... Watch, something tells me, he will be a Hit & Miss engine show some time this summer and come home with a tractor now... LOL.... Good job, It really is neat to see my ole man get fired up to play in his shop.. keep the videos rolling..

We had a 3000 diesel for years. Really used it hard! 5,000 + hours when I sold it. Never had any clutch trouble. Those clutchs MUST be very durable. But of course time and age takes it toll on anything!

18:40 ..are you serious ? you put this dirty oily piece into service again ? ;-) That was my favourite and worst part of any clutch changing....to wipe out and clean the whole housing ! Several times we noticed a little leakage from the gearbox but more often from the crankshafts sealing

@ 0:30 - You said that a dual-stage clutch is used for an independent PTO. Not so. "Independent" means you don't use the clutch at all to work the PTO. In fact, you showed the correct clutch housings for independent PTOs @ 10:45. Looking closely, you can see the splined hub in those housings which engages the outer input shaft for the hydraulic pump and independent PTO. That splined clutch housing and that input shaft always turn with the engine, regardless of the clutch operation. This means the hydraulics and the PTO will work anytime the engine is running. There is a separate control lever for a hydraulic PTO clutch, which is unrelated to the tractor clutch, to control the PTO, which is also driven by the outer input shaft. The conventional input shaft for the transmission, which engages splines in the clutch disk, is located INSIDE the hollow input shaft, and operates conventionally with a SINGLE STAGE clutch. Second, when you're installing the disk and clutch on the flywheel, try this: lay the clutch housing and pressure plate assembly flat on your lap, with the pressure plate facing up. Lay the disk in place on top of the pressure plate. Slip your alignment tool through the center from bottom to top aligning and engaging it through the disk splines as you go. Now, while holding the alignment tool so it doesn't slip out, lift and place the entire assembly into place on the flywheel, using your screwdriver to hold it temporarily. This keeps you from having to move the disk around inside the clutch housing to try to insert your alignment tool into the splines. Instead of continuing to rely on the screwdriver, which can easily slip out and cause a sore toe, start a couple of clutch bolts in 2-3 threads. You may need to substitute some longer temporary bolts for this. It would be better to just use a couple of temporary long studs for alignment but most folks don't bother. Now that the clutch can't fall, wiggle your alignment tool, which still has the disk splined on it, until you can seat the tool in the pilot bearing hole, if it's not already there. Now install your bolts and remove your tool.

Bloody perfect! I just rebuilt my 1967 Ford 3000 Diesel engine and I put the clutch in with the pokey out side toward the engine, the same way it came out. Looks like that is backwards. It still works fine though. I had a Ford New Holland dealer put a new clutch in it when they were doing other work and split the tractor. For the engine rebuild I did all the disassembly and reassembly work myself saving a ton of cash. The problem with the the engine was the #1 cylinder had a broken ring at one time and wore the cylinder so much there was not enough compression to light up the fuel. It worked ok for a while but eventually it started wet stacking, unburned fuel being blown out of the exhaust causing a black goo to dribble out of the vertical exhaust joint. It started missing too so action was required. It runs great now with a .040 over bore, new pistons, rings and bearings. The bearings looked fine but while it was all apart I decided to install new ones just because.

What should I do to correct a sticking clutch like, when I want to stop or engage the clutch it takes forever for it to engage. I can press the clutch peddle but it takes about 25 yards or so before it disengages. It seems like the clutch works fine it doesn’t slip or anything it just doesn’t want to stop.

lol, my work 35 years ago.... with a bit practice and nothing is bad i (second guy only for splitting and rejoing the tractor) did in in 4 hours with a single clutch but no electric or pneumatic screwdriver ;-). yes, time were money. It seems the engine is a gasoline one ....never saw this but one time a mechanic put in gasoline pistons instead of the ones for the Dieselengine ...a lot of work ended up in endless white smoke and an empty battery :-)

ah this clutch is made my sintermetallic pads....we dont liked them ! because they cause much more wear out of the flywheel than a normal. dampered disks were by far the best, imho. We never used a spion (line up tool) ...only a repair lamp and a good eye :-) ok, we had some old used shafts from gearboxes which do this as well. We do mostly change the big sealing ring of the crankshaft because they mostly are a bit leaking and while the tractor was split it was the right time to fix it.

18:49 a crane is a good choice; we used most times a hydro jack with wheels (idk the english word) underneath the oilpan with a wooden blanket between. And before splitting we hammer 2 wooden wedges on each side between the frontaxle and the chassis. So the whole front part could not swing left or right and it was quite easy to couple the tractor later. And yes it should do come together without using much force of any bolt.
