the type054 series were made to be cheap and mass producable since at the time china's navy lacked any modern warships. It set the baseline for the modern chinese navy.

I would rank FFG(X) higher than AG: Constellation has significantly more advanced sensors (Radar and EW), can carry more missiles (due to quad-packing ESSM, which is equivalent/superior to redut and having 16 NSM) and has a significantly superior ASW capability with an Variable-Depth Sonar which AG lacks completely and a SH-60+ MQ-8 combination (SH-60 being a heavier, more capable helicopter than Ka-27)

@@felixhanisch4005 Definitely agree on these points, though it severely lacks in its SSM capabilities, 16x NSMs are decent, though extremely limited range and very antiquated compared to what Russia and China are fielding.

I'm a little surprised the PLAN acquired so many Type 054A frigates as well. I guess they are still quite good for ASW escorts, and are OK in mid-range air defence. Type 054B definitely needs to come soon though

It is probaly a win for the Gorshkov because newer build one with 32 cell 3S-14 for Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon + the 32 for Air defense (probaly a mix of 24 9M96 and 32 9M100) it will out match it

I think it's a little too early to compare the Gorshkov with the Type 054B, given we only have unofficial info or what I consider fairly credible rumours on the Type 054B so far. My opinion is that the Admiral Gorshkov should still retain much better surface-to-surface firepower with its long-range ASCMs including the Tsirkon that will enter service soon, but the Type 054B should be more suitable for area air defence, particularly if it uses the Chinese UVLS as I believe it will.

It's much better to have a bunch of these frigates than a lot fewer capital ships. This strategy works everywhere, as technologies get to stuffing anti-ship missiles into tens of thousands of stealth drone boats made of plastic, warships will simply be floating docks for such boats, most likely also automatic, and all the situation, guidance and control will be transferred to satellites (which in mostly owned by the leader of an alliance). Drones will also conduct anti-submarine warfare, just like the boats themselves will also be drones, and on this the era of warships, even of this size, will go into the background

@@struvrim7637 Even the overpriced wunderwaffe zummwalt will go down after 1 hit. I don't think even carrier would survive 1 hit from modern AShM. The key is don't get hit, use decoy, EW, interceptor anything but try not to get hit.

That ship is complete and in service for several years, but new weapons are appearing that the Russian Navy is immediately testing on the ships. This ship, as the first in its class, is also a testbed for new weapons and can spend its entire career in that purpose... It is much simpler for the Russian army to upgrade existing platforms, all that is required is for the Ministry of Defense to give an order to the state-controlled military industrial complex. Unlike the Russians, the US must go through the senate at least twice to approve funding, first for the project and then for the upgrade, so upgrades are carried out periodically on all ships in the class, which is known as a block. So maybe it confuses you that that ship is still not complete...

Haha thanks for your support. I actually find Binkov's videos on Chinese naval and air power to be not too bad. He makes an attempt to be impartial, and what he says is defensible, although he does stay on the more conservative side in terms of PLA asset numbers and capabilities. For example, in his recent video on the surge in Chinese combat aircraft production, I think he undercounted the J-15 and H-6K/J/N numbers somewhat, but the estimates he presented for other aircrafts were defensible. He clearly tries to get hold of the correct sources, or have people working for him that scour Chinese language forums. I can't speak for Binkov's videos on Russian equipment or military affairs though, because I haven't watched many of his videos on that topic, and I know far less about Russian capabilities in general.

I would'nt say that. Reality speaks better than words. Look at the Moskva it sunk because it was sent out in poor condition with its defence technologies was not working. Look at the akula months before the US could not locate it in the Atlantic. Now it was spotted off the coast off Norway. Did US technology improve over 4 months or is the akula not being mantained properly hence it's stealth being deterioriated.

@@jamesmandahl444 if you look at it from another pov, given the russians relatively small military budget compared to the US and china, it's only logical that they would struggle to maintain a lot of equipment. servicing a military that requires a large yet elite navy, army and air force on such a poultry budget...it's only inevitable that there are going to be major holes when it comes to general upkeep and training. dude mentioning the sinking of the movska and the spotting of the akula is right. heck even vostok 2022 they couldn't even send more than a quarter of the ships they had announced to participate. i think the criticism is fair
