Advanced Honing is Out in KR : My Early thoughts and what it could mean for LOA Endgame

Put together a quickie about this. It's looking good for LOA as a whole so I wanted to spread my positivity over it. Hopefully this doesn't age poorly.

I think as I understood it it's not 70% cheaper, it's 70% of what normal honing would cost, meaning it's 30% cheaper.

Yeah you might be right, even if it is 30% that's huge at this point.

I think advanced honing is the future. They seem to be using it in a limited capacity as a trial of sorts and would expand its support in the future if it's well-received.

New honing system starting at 1620 is absolutely a positive, but they do need to ease up on the honing pains to 1620 as well. While a lot of people will say it's not that bad to reach 1620 we are still seeing a lot of player burnout and loss of player retention due to this 1600-1620 push. With the announcement of the new system along with big titty momma raid NA/EU players realize that 1620 is the final goal (1630 if you want Thaemine HM) until at least the end of summer so the whales at this point are done. Now is the right time to slam a juicy honing buff to help people reach 1620, even help those support alts hardstuck 1610. You want to target the non-whales and get the grinders to stick around and convince more people to either come back or stay so they buy your skins and your battle pass. You give NA/EU a honing buff to 1620 and let everyone relax and chill a bit on the endless vertical progression we've had since launch while still having a high content cadence (Thaemine then 4 months Enchida) and it will be a net positive overall to just trying to grind people down into swiping for this dead zone instead. It would help with the support issue as well, since a lot of players have a split support roster it's just too costly to push those last 10/20 ilvls to get into PF and start filling roles, we are unique to KR in this, we learned long ago having a few supports in your roster makes a huge difference in getting your weekly clears done and with a declining player base, most of the supports that remain in LA are someone's alt. There needs to be something to help get those alts able to run current content, or the PF will continue to just get worse than it is now, which is basically impossible to get a group going.

thanks for showing this off. its cool that they are reducing the variance between good and bad honing rng. moreso than being excited about this though, i'm excited that honing is generally less important post 1620-1630ish. i know there is still a lot of rng in things like elixirs, but those systems are imo way more interesting than honing where you just click the "id like to be disappointed please" button again and again and flush all your resources down the toilet. so yeah, very cool in a way. excited they are spending development time on this issue. but for me personally, im just excited that between voldis hm and echidna there is a very small ilvl gap and honing is not the most important part of being ready for new fights. lost ark is a successful game, and when you have a game with a recipe for success its harder for the devs to justify changing that formula. can honestly say i thought we were stuck with honing in its current form (and ability stones and all the other rng power systems) forever. so i take the fact that they are working on this as a huge w.

If only they'd push this a little bit earlier into the ilvl gap (maybe somewhere around 1600?). But yeah, it looks freaking awesome and I can't wait to use it. Echidna this summer??! xD

I might actually consider returning if they retrofit advanced honing to earlier content and fix support shortage.

Yeah, I should had stated it more clearly that I do wish honing in general got an overhaul.

Im not sure how to feel about it simply because each tap is 1ilvl for the piece or .16 ilvl or 1/6 collectively instead of 5 ilvl per tap on a piece or .87 ilvl or 5/6 collectively (what we currently have). I guess the experience of tapping is better, but the weight behind it is losing a lot of value. Sure, it's 70% cheaper in terms of gold, but you are only getting about 20% of the value from a tap.

Yeah, it all really depends on how the put the level of future content. But if they continue with the trend of how Theamine and Echidna isn't a huge jump, it could be a pretty good W overall.

I don look on path so u say ot 70proc cheaper then tap previos so previos give 5item lvl and this 1 so 30proc x 5 150proc so how is it cheaper?

Yeah, someone else commented and they read it as 70% of the cost, so 30% cheaper. So it might be more that way and I misunderstood with ye olde translation. But yeah, getting 1 ilvl per hit is smodge, but it's already that bad getting there with these .83s or what not in the Akkan gear. But yeah, this crawl in item levels and not feeling all that much more powerful is pretty rough for the cost.
