so when do you actually need to auto-schedule?

Didn't see your comment earlier, sorry. Basically when you want you project items to move by themselves, instead of doing everything manually.

I find it hard to use auto-schedule as not enough is known about the algorithm.

You are right. That's why we prefer other solutions. They are easier to understand for an average user. Let us know if you'd like to explore other options

A side question : how do you create the sprints as tabs horizontally below the timeline?

To get that you need: 1. Group tasks by teams (View settings > Group by Teams) 2. Check the "Show capacity on timeline" checkbox 3. Have the source of issues assigned to teams in the configuration of said teams
