MORE PLEASE! Totally fantastic tutorial on VoiceAttack's more advanced features. I am going to try to get this to start my head tracker and center it then load music player. Fun stuff. Please do add more tutorials on VoiceAttack. I'm not a programmer or coder and it's good to see examples so I can wrap my old brain around the VA manual.

Great video. Very detailed. I have watched so many VA tutorials it starts getting a little confusing when you see the same thing done several different ways. Your explanation breaks things down pretty good and I can actually understand what you were doing and why. I understand people get pretty comfortable with what they are doing and forget what it was like from the beginning, I can be that way myself sometimes lol. Hey bloody hey, followed this vid, stopping and starting, listening and carrying out the instructions for the setup of the vlc player - and more than a bit chuffed that it all worked just like you demonstrated, i now have a full on voice activated media player, and also the confidence to go and try out some other tweaks and improvements of voice attack for myself, learnt a lot listening to this, - many many thanks, it is appreciated , oh and subbed as well (goes without saying) :-)

Hello captain !! great video. I learn a lot. I have only one problem that i have to work on. Impossible to minimize VLC. I've totally prepare my music reader, adding volume options. You can do a lot of this quality tutorials. That's really usefull to understand all what is possible to do with VA. You have th good rythme, it's very good filmed, it's smart presented. Great Job. I had to use these parameters for Telnet to properly work "--extraintf telnet --telnet-password=admin --telnet-port=4212 --random" if this helps anyone.

Love it.... are you sure there isn't a way to turn volume up or down? That would be the coolest thing! I've been in game and had to use the "old" mouse to change volume when it would have been much cooler to use the "new" voice command, if it's possible! I tried setting up another set of commands but it doesn't think the instance started with your command is the same vlc. Is there someway to point a command at that running instance of vlc? What my profile does, it works in a regular vlc window is feed a string of copied "down volume" keystrokes (ctrl + down arrow) to zero it and then adds the number of "up volume" keystrokes (ctrl + up arrow) to meet the percentages i require. I guess what i'm asking is how do I point voiceattack to the instance of VLC that your script opens up?

Awesome video! Some questions? Are you able to add multiple playlists and play via VLC such as "My Awesome" and "Jazz Attack" and be able to call up one by name...Also conceivably using VLC could you do internet radio or podcasts? How would one go about that?

First of, thank you very much for this great idea and video. Unfortunately this did not work for me anymore (Win 10, Python 3.6, Voice Attack 1.6.1). So I had to edit everything a bit. Here my working solution for everyone who might be interested. Btw. I did not find a better way to control VLC out of a running game using Voice Attack. 1. Telnet is disabled by default in Windows 10. So enable it first. 2. start VLC with the parameters added by Steve. Might still work with the default solution, I did not try. But better be thorough and give telnet every detail you need. 3. I used the parameter "clear" to create the "stop music; clear playlist" command. By this I do not need to kill the vlc process and avoid any tabbing issues. 4. Python 3.6 throws type errors with the old python script. So you have to convert the to be read strings into a byte type (simply put a "b" in front of the string). The input strings however need to be clearly defined as string. I paste the new working script down below. 5. Set the window style to "hidden" instead of "minimized". My system would tab out of E:D otherwise. Note: Telnet will not accept folder inputs sometimes (for the add to playlist command). As far as I know this depends on the location your python script is located in and / or the number of subfolders you are using. I put my script in the same folder I copy the music in. The music itself is put directly into subfolders. I am only using these two levels. It should work fine for you, if you follow this as well. If not it can happen, that your files are not added to the playlist. Have fun and ad astra, CMDR! Very well explained thank you, however I'm having 1 issue, I followed all the steps but on the "load awesome mix section" I just get a plain black python window pop up and then nothing. Any ideas?

Every time I use a command like pause song ect it opens a 2nd vlc window before the command functions

ok kinda cracked it there is some kind of issue, which I couldn't fathom, with the path setup in windows 10 which meant that the sys.argv command in the script wouldn't work correctly without prefixing with 'python' or 'pythonw'.. I probably need to spend some time investigating setting up path settings correctly I got around it be setting up voice attack to run the script like this Put pythonw.exe in the application field (this also stops the console popup with out need for ticking window style) and then in the parameters field C:\location\of\script\vlc_command.py add C:\location\of\music\folder it aint pretty but I am no python programmer and it works so job done Apologies to Cap for spamming his otherwise sterling tutorial..but hope this helps any other wandering soul that happens upon this tutorial. As an interesting side note, if you like to avoid the risk of having vlc jump to the front window and dropping you out of the game then the command switches --intf telnet --random will launch vlc using only the telnet interface with no gui....just means you need to remember its running but as cap explains how to kill the process from voice attack it shouldn't be a problem. This works for me if it doesn't for you I take no responsibility and if you come up with a way to fix it so you can run python scripts without the need to prefix python.exe when telling voice attack to launch a .py script I am all ears Learned way more about python than I planned to and thanks to cap for that :D crawling back under my rock now :D

Awesome video. I've tried hard, but vlc is not playing my playlist.... Vlc is starting and stopps if i say. It all works fine like your video....but when the Python window closed there is no music in Vlc :( have anyone ideas ?

Thx for this captain !! I ve got one question.... my voice attack version is 1.5.7, and I don't have the contextual menu on the "other" button. I m interrested in "play a radom sound". I don't have this option on my version which is "up to date"... Can you tell me please.?

i have no sound at all. nothing happen. just the black loading window for a split second and thats it. dont know what i need to change in the vlc player. i cant change the password. sombody ideas ?

some python codes do not look good, could you upload the file or put the text here in the video?

Think something has changed in either voice attack or vlc? either way I cant get the dam script to pass the command to vlc I think the issue is in cmd=" ".join(sys.argv[1:]) if I substitute cmd="add c:\sometunes" it updates the play list and works but thats just proving that the telnet interface is working...its just not handling the parameters Brain fried ...

I think my firewall is blocking your python script I am getting this error thrown to me in the dos window "no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"
