Advice for new French learners & Learning method update

In this 54th episode of Follow My French I update you on what I'm currently doing to keep my French learning alive! I also offer some tips for new French learners and French beginners, with consistency being my biggest piece of advice. At the end of the video I discuss with you something I have planned to celebrate reaching 10k subscribers on my channel.

I am English and have been teaching myself French since late 2014.

So i learn a little bit of english on the school (i take it all years since pre schoold but it was bad..) but mostly watching youtube, at and now like 4 years later im fluet in it (kinda) and OMG im another person when i speak and its so funny cause im a very shy person in spanish but in english im a sassy bi**ch

Honestly speaking the beauty of livestream is that you do not have to have it planned. Most RU-vidrs who end doing a livestream they just engage with the chat and that sparks a discussion whether it is in a format of Q&A or whether you give advise to those seeking it. Regardless the stream is dynamic and nobody knows what direction it takes. So don't feel pressured to have something to talk about since the chat will create that for you. Good luck hitting that 10k milestone. 🙂

Hi Aurella, just wanted to thank you for your videos. It's so comforting in a way to see someone learning the same language as me make mistakes and get frustrated as I do; it's all part of the process, and the fact that you push and keep trying is to be commended. Even if the level is too easy for me, thank you for reminding me that making mistakes is not only ok, but necessary. Cheers and bon courage! We'll be fluent one day ;) haha. I think a livestream would be a great idea. What about doing a babbel review or looking over your french notes? Or just maybe telling stories about your trips to France or anything really? And however long you want to stream for is fine with us. Congrats in advance for 10K!

OMG YES PLEASE DO A LIVESTREAM!!!! It could be a chatty video about learning French and stuff, we could ask questions too! Also I think body language is important, as it helps me remember some of the words and things, as I can attach the gestures to that word or phrase. Anyway thanks for putting out this video, and congrats (in advance I guess) for 10k subscribers!

I love this video, sounds like how I think haha! I have the same motivation, my partner is French and I would like to be able to be able to talk with his family and childhood friends. I however am worried being in my 30's I'm too old to learn a language! We shall see, thanks for the video!

I'm so with you on the grammar books, bought one and only read the first page! Love Babbel though, still learning on that at the moment and did the same thing when I worked in a kitchen, had an hours train commute everyday so that was the perfect time to squeeze a bit of French in! Definitely agree with consistency, everyday me and my partner make breakfast together and speak French throughout! Also wondering...do you ever dream in French?

That's such a cool idea to have breakfast in French everyday!! I've had dreams where I thought I was speaking in French, but when I woke up I realised I was just speaking nonsense 😅

The book "English Grammar for Students of French" has helped me TREMENDOUSLY along with babbel. Don't avoid grammar. It's like trying to do math problem without the formula.

Si vous comprenez bien, lisez ceci ... Je ne parle pas français, mais j'apprends depuis environ quatre semaines. Je n’ai vraiment pas envie de faire des tutoriels ou des cours, alors j’ai décidé d’enseigner moi-même. Ce que j'ai fait, c'est que j'ai recherché un traducteur et que je viens d'écrire des phrases et des mots que je voulais savoir. Cela aurait pu vous faire perdre votre temps. Pardon 😂 English translation.... If you can understand me read this... I don’t speak French but I have been learning for about four weeks. I really just don’t feel like doing tutorials or classes so I decided to teach myself. What I did was I looked up a translator and just wrote down sentences and words that I wanted to know. This might have wasted your time. sorry 😂

I would watch your live stream, 1 hour could be a good time? who knows, but that would be cool!

A 5 - 15 minute live stream sounds good. The live stream could be a question and answer segment with maybe an intro from you on daily French conversations that give some common phrases new learners could/should know. ]You have a roommate to practice with and many of us do not, so knowing what is more common to say would be helpful. I taught myself some common phrases and numbers up to 100 for when I went to Paris, but not being able to practice with someone as you mentioned makes learning almost impossible.
