Aegon's dream strengthens the case that Jon Snow was destined to kill the Night King and fulfill the Prince That Was Promised prophecy as the great savior of the world.
@@L2L732even thought she truly believed what the king said was true, she should not have gone with the words uttered by an agonizing moribund old man. Firstly because it sounds like a hallucination, and secondly, there was no one to hear that, making her son a usurper. Even Otto didn’t believe that for a second.
lol, for real. He also literally got out of his death bed to restate his decision that Rhae was still his heir. Like, did people just completely forget about that!?
He could have set up marriages etc to but he didn’t. Alicent has no control over her son now regardless. It is to late if aegon hears it was a mistake cole or larys will use his insecurities to make him stay
Peace was never an option the moment Aegon was crowned. Rhaenyra was naive to believe his brother could be uncrowned peacefully even if Alicent realised his son was the usurper and Rhaenyra the rightful queen of the seven kingdoms.
@@tvgerbil1984 you mean the main players are naive The only ones who wanted the throne are those that aren't the dragon's blood but likes to stick into it.
This is an example of writers adding in a non book scene that is really great, and fleshes out the material. It answers the viewers question of why didn't Rhaenyra try to work things out with alicent and correct the misunderstanding, and adds unexpected drama with the queen herself going into enemy territory. Edit: when I washed this clip I had not seen the context. After seeing how the conversation occurred, I agree that it was not very realistic for Rhaenyra to go into the capitol like that. But it's still good that the conversation happened.
It's idiotic. Alicent had the chance to end this war by taking her prisoner, and Rhaenyra knew it as well. She is accused of killing her grandson. Yet she walks away free.
@kushagraprasad4367 they really did have a close bond. Additionally, Alicent had just been smacked by the news that she had brought this all upon herself by mistake. She immediately disassociated from the whole situation somewhat.
how is this good. So many plotholes written like a soap opera. Why didn't alicent just give them an easy win and yell for the guards soon as she was a good distance away?
@@aviencloud4239 I don't have the same pity for her. Even if it had been true, if the late king had in fact chosen one of her sons, she must have known the kind of trash heap that was her son Aegon (or either of her sons for that matter). She chose her corrupt awful son over the loyalty of her best friend, and if she's suffering because of it even just internally, I think she deserves it. No one's perfect in this story, but Alicent is one of the worst for the part she played in causing so many deaths and soon enough a war.
The best part about all of this is that it wouldn’t have mattered if Alicent misunderstood Viserys or not. Some way or another the Greens would’ve usurped Rhaenyra’s rightful claim to the throne.
The music in this episode was amazing. That ending score is heartbreaking. "A terrible war is looming and even a victory may be so bloody as to be counted as defeat" This is the scene everyone will come back to when the show is over.... what could have been...
I would have preferred if this moment where Alicent realises her error is at Rhaenyra’s death scene - Rhaenyra says something like ‘remember the legend of Aegon the Conquerer, of the Prince that was Promised and the Song of Ice and Fire’ to her son and Alicent realises she fucked up and tries to ask Rhaenyra what she means, but she won’t speak to her. Then she watches Rhaenyra died knowing it was all for nothing.
Alicent was particularly self righteous and stupid. She knew full well viserys never wanted Aegon for a king in any respect and even well before that she knew how unsuited he was for the role. Even after Rhenys warned her she did not listen. She likes being a tool the only pity is that she died so easily.
Too bad the entire story got ruined when Arya ended the NK instead of Aegon (Jon) and Aegon didn’t become king. No matter how much season 8 has been left in the past, it’s awful writing is felt in scenes like this, which so heavily depend on it. Such a shame.
I feel bad for Alicent, she made a honest mistake, and now she can’t take it back due to how much blood that is spilled. Especially when the blacks beheaded a toddler. Even if she told aegon the truth he wouldn’t back down from the throne now sense his child was killed. If it wasn’t for dameon than I believe it would of ended more peacefully
@@calliefinck6275 made things worst when someone is super entitled to the throne and having a sibling who has strong claim to the throne would force her hand to eliminate Alicent family line. Alicent has every right to be afraid of rhaenyra. Even she says she won’t harm her kids she would eventually will or daemon would take it upon himself to kill them.
@@calliefinck6275 rhaenyra is def spoiled as a child, but she at least matured a bit now. aegon on the other hand seems to have the same behavior. plus, luke didn't deserve to die, esp when he truly didn't mean mutilate aemond permanently. ironically out of everyone during that night, luke was the only child that seemed to only fight not out of anger but fear for his family
@@garukong. strange of you not mentioning Alicent’s greed and her lust for power and adultry. She diminished house Targaryen and has made sure king viserys is well manipulated.
I wonder if this moment included in the Westeros education system lol like what if Ned was like "oh no not again" when dying Lyanna said Jon's real name.
In the end the prophecy was just bullshit, there was no need for a Targaryen to be in the throne and the realm was not united, so Aegon's dream was just that, a bad dream.
What if this connects to Missandei's correction for the high Valyrian word of that Aegons dream* that the interpretation is not really having a specific gender* Queen Rhaenyra is really the real queen
Thing is … it would’ve made no difference since Otto planned to crown Aegon regardless but Alicent could’ve grabbed Aegon and flew him out of KL with his family I guess .
In Season 1 we see them praying together this scene is supposed to reflect that I don’t think a lot of people remember that scene I didn’t until I Rewatched it. This is the last time they talk peacefully and any form of friendship is gone. Although I mean they both should be absolutely mad at eachother and it makes no sense ali didn’t get to a safe distance and have her captured but her dagger outside would’ve gotten alicent most likely as well.
This really annoys me because the "Prince That Was Promised" prophecy was clearly meant for Jon Snow. But D&D messed it up so badly that now, whenever it's mentioned in House of the Dragon, I just roll my eyes because it feels pointless and ultimately leads to nothing.
I don't care what the books say but on tv try giving Rhaeneyra Targaryen the first of her name the queen of the andals a dignified death ....at least something far better from the last Targaryen.... For heaven sake they are dragon riders..... Some respect!!!!!!
Well, I mean are you *really* even a Targaryen if you don't have at least one son named Aegon? Provided your name isn't Aegon already. Heck, Rhaegar apparently liked it so much he had two sons with the name, that's twice as many as any other Targaryen. I firmly believe he'd have called Rhaenys Aegon as well, if Elia had let him... might actually explain why he ditched her for the she wolf.
@@manosense Hopefully we can get some clarity in the book when it comes to finally comes out. Showrunners fumbled the last season and made Arya the savior. I believe it was supposed to be Jon.
@@UNTLDEntertainment the book cannot be different on arya, becouse i saw some interview of george martin that himself told to showrunners how he wants the end of game of thrones at least on the major roles , was his words
