Collingwood player John Bourke was suspended for 10 years for flattening (pushed over) an umpire in a reserves match at Victoria Park. Obviously he never played again. Another Collingwood player was Duncan Wright who flattened Essendon's Slim Somerville behind the play and knocked him unconscious during a finals game in the 60's. Collingwood sacked him as a result and he also never played again.
In regards to John Bourke, he didn't just shove the ump, but he also jumped over the fence and decked a spectator in the front row when he was getting taken off the field.
Wayne Carey for having relations with his teammate's significant other, it basically tore the whole team apart, which led to Wayne Carey to play a couple of seasons for my team the Adelaide Crows, he was never the same, and it is safe to say, that it was my team's biggest mistake.
was caught banging Kelli Stevens (Wayne's wife) in the laundry of Glenn Archers house during a Nth Melb family get-together charged with drunken assault of 4 cops after he 'glassed' girlfriend Kate Nielson & lied about the incident broke the AFL salary cap by $400K (with help from now disgraced player agent RN) sacked from CH 7 after a bag of white powder fell out of his pocket appeared on SAS Australia after receiving $250K appearance fee and the list goes on....
And more than once. Even as late as 2022 he was at it again breaking into a house with a machete. He loves attacking women as well because hes such a man. They talk about domestic violence yet NEVER forward this to these communities and just let them do what they want and then give them loads of money and assistance. These ppl NEVER learn and then claim police brutality, yet are blind to the brutality, harm and damage they create themselves. Their mentality hasnt changed over their existence.
Lol saying Brian Lake Wrecked his career....after he retired from the top level as a 3 time premiership player to get suspended in local level.... that's a Wrecked career?
On the Cousins front, he seems to *finally* be doing better now. Took him long enough to get his shit together, but he seems to be relatively happy, healthy, and is even going to be on Dancing With The Stars (which they wouldn't allow if he was at risk at all).

Honestly, good on him. It takes a lot of balls to man up and change yourself the way he has.
🏈 1997: Richmond's Justin Charles ( steroids ) = 16 games suspension, played 2 games in 1998 after the suspension, and then retired at age 27. 13 03 2024
🏈 Kurt Tippett was suspended for the entire 2013 season ( half the sentence suspended for 5 years ) for accepting illegal payments from the Crows. Tippett served 11 games of his sentence, and the other half of his suspension was never served. 13 03 2024
No one will ever really know and only Ben Cousins can truly understand the unintended consequences of the past day and nights while being a superstar. To say he never reached the heights at Richmond in 2009 after starting at West Coast in 1996, is like disappointment of someone who's gained weight in their 40's after being a beefcake in their 20's. I'm happy to say Ben Cousins does good AFL analysis on channel 7 Perth and featured in the 2023 Xmas pageant with his kids.
🏈🏈🏈 Brendan "The Fev" Fevola drunk at the 2009 Brownlow. Got sacked by Carlton. Went to the Brisbane Lions', lasted 1 year, got sacked again. 13 03 2024
@@Kaleen_YT well every account that tagged the date that the comment was posted are very recently made accounts, with very similar comments, and have very few comments on their channel. Some even have only 1 comment and were made a few days ago.
Reviewing career damaging transgressions by AFL players in full would take like five years. The one I remember most is John Bourke of the magpies going berserk in an army reserve match.
His teammates Daniel Chick, Daniel Kerr and Michael Gardiner also had the knack of avoiding testing. Having a coach who was also a pharmacist probably helped.
@@thattassiewargamer or could it be that the Eagles were tipped off that ASADA officials were about to drop in & said players developed a sudden case of the 72 hour cold/flu ?
Honourable mention for former AFL player and coach Mark "Bomber" Thompson: illegal drugs usage and possession ( separate from the Essendon supplements saga ). Mark Thompson's reputation has never recovered. 13 03 2024
The fact you said "minor mistake that got blown out of proportion" whilst showing then Essendon Coach James Hird is ridiculously poor editing OR, you believed what you said over the footage. Essendon is the only club to have been found to have engaged in a full blown, whole club, doping program. The AFL found they brought the code into disrepute..... HA...really? Their drugs regime was akin to using their players as test subjects for a supplement which was being investigated by WADA for some pretty nasty side effects particularly around reproductive function. How this is "blown out of proportion" is staggering. It was my belief that under the AFL charter at the time the correct punishment for the offenses committed was to strip Essendon of their registration as an AFL club all together but the AFL were shite scared about public, read 'Essendon fans' and Foxtel, backlash as the tv rights deal would need to be rejigged. The Bombers should've copped the full whack and been deregistered and forced to compete at VFL level, if at all, for at least a decade before earning back an AFL registration. The fact that Essendon essentially got less punishment than the Blues copped for salary cap breaches is stunningly insane but not surprising considering the weight of influence Essendon has over the league in its administrative positions etc and gate returns at Docklands and the special games Essendon is gofted every year such as 'Dreamtime at the 'G'' and 'Anzac Day'.(And don't give ke any of that Sheedy invented Anzac day crap...games were palyed on Anzac day fir ages. Sheedy just made it a Bombers vs Pies ONLY thing). The recipient of the Anzac Day medal means jack shite to anyone other than Collingwood or Essendon fans as its not available to any other club. Anzac day SHOULD be a day where the teams are rotated every year. The Bombers should've copped their full whack but the AFL were, and still are, gutless.
The funniest thing I ever saw was when the eagles got off a bus and a guy in a eagles costume went around with a bag of white powder saying you know u want it the fact everyone knew what was going on yet the afl said nothing to see here was the best sight of the afl being hypocrites
In 2018 or so I stayed in a motel in Mudgee - I worked in the Wine Business - and got to know the owner. He was originally from WA, but he was heavily involved in the local Rugby scene. He mentioned his brother had played in defence in the winning 1991 West Coast side. 2017, 2018 was around the time Ben Cousins was way off the rails - he's thankfully turned his life around - and the motel owner said Cousins wasn't the only one. He mentioned the deceased Mainwaring, then he said something which stunned me. It was in relation to the Essendon Drug scandal. He simply said, Mate, the West Coast side was riddled with banned substances. He said there was a certain player who wasn't known as The Chemist for nothing. It's why I find the Smith saga infuriating in that the use of coke in our society is 'ubiquitous', to coin a phrase. The treatment he has received is typical scapegoating, and, there are Collingwood players - one recently departed - who shall we say were chronic ... but then again, they play for the sacrosanct E Coli Wobblers so, like Maynard, what's the big deal? They were all 'footy' incidents, weren't they?
Nah....Petrie played possum to get him suspended.....then Hodgey & lewis paid the Roos back next time they met....Both copped hefty suspensions, but we won the game & the war - not to mention the Premiership.
@@alansimmonds9030 Well that was stupid of them - putting their whole season on the line because they decided to be reckless (or worse) to seek revenge on team mates of the player who was choked. It cost them the match against GWS and Sydney, and therefore top spot on the ladder. Some of Lake's idiocy rubbed off onto them. As Sam Mitchell said, "Both guys knew exactly that they'd let everyone down."
Lake is right. What a BS rule for an ex AFL player going back to local footy and then having the added disadvantage of wannabe's wanting to make a name for themselves by singling out high profile ex-players. I'm sure he takes comfort with his distinguished career and premiership medallions and has gotten over not being allowed to play local football. LOL
They should not have played AFL from the start. If the played soccer instead of AFL. They can just play for a league in another country with all of that controversy left behind in Australia. Cannot do that in AFL because it is only played in Australia.
Gary Ablett Snr. His post-career "activities" were at least as bad as Cousin's. Wayne Carey's behaviour in the USA is also worth a look ... if you can get past what he did to North Melbourne while captain.
Brian lake actually works with the Caroline springs seniors now. I know him personally as he lives not far from me and I play for Caroline Springs also.
Not sure of the year or the pies name he had a penalty awarded against him . He knocked umpire to ground jumped over fence hit a spectator I think either in 7o or 80 s 9:12
Even know they are still playing.. I think Liam Ryan for bashing his missus at 4am in Kalbarri & willie Rioli boosting a ounce of pot through Darwin airport is shit bloke status.
@@Kaleen_YT I know i shouldn't use c*vid as an excuse, but i feel if he wasn't so isolated and living in a more "normal" afl environment, it may have given the opportunity to be properly mentored as an adult.
Ben Cousins was more of an ongoing slide than a "split second decision". Hell, even as you describe in this video it didn't end his career. Curtailed it maybe.
Jack ginnivan was kinda loved at Collingwood in 2022 but at the end of the season, he was caught using illegal substances and suspension for 4 games and a fine, after that, he was always the starting sub. He was in the final squad in 2023 and won the premiership but after that season, he moved to Hawthornen and became hated by most Collingwood fans
A good presentation. Ben Cousins will never be in Ruin, he is a fighter and has the ability to pick himself up from anywhere which he will prove. I follow Richmond, it was great to have him in the team. I think he would make a great Coach, he has made the mistakes, learnt and moved on. Something to Pass on. His skill set as a player was un denied. Keep Fighting Ben!!!
I'm not a Brian Lake fan, but I believe his AFL suspension total shouldn't have been carried over to minor league footy simply because the AFL tribunal is and was and always will be unreliable for their decision making. They have got a really poor record of getting it right. The Tribunal like the AFL think they are above everyone and what they think is all that matters.
Years ago I got offered a contract from two AFL clubs. I didn't even look at the contracts and told the two clubs to shove their contracts. AFL what a joke
