I review weapons, I call it as I see it. I shill for nobody. (but if AA want to lend me an S410 to review I'll gladly have their babies).*
www.buymeacoffee.com/drewmacfire
*Mainly because I'm thinking of buying a new S410 for Winter varmints around these here parts.
Ok - Pro Sport: I've had this rifle for about six months - long enough to form conclusions about it...
Is it worth the price? What are the bad points? What day is this?
*Part One was shooting a 20 shot group at 30yds to show how it performs in the hands of a mediocre shooter.
It will make you feel good about your marksmanship.
You can watch this with smug self satisfaction here:
• AIR ARMS Pro Sport & J...
Rifle shown:
Air Arms Pro Sport .177 spring piston air rifle.
Scope:
Hawke Quick Mount 3-12x50 AO IR
Ammunition I feed it on:
JSB RS Exact 7.33gr.
Video shot with:
Panasonic Lumix G80 with kit lens
Lighting:
Godox SL60
Hair & Makeup:
Acme Welding & Fabrication
Nobody reads this shit anyway.
(But if you did - comment 'Air Arms need to get this man an S410')
If you subscribe both our lives will be improved immeasurably. Possibly.
Drew.

@Patrick-857
@Patrick-857 Год назад
@@jimmynich4791 Well I've got a large number of rifles, and the most accurate is the Prosport, HW35, and Diana 56. The 97k is a little jumpy, and takes a lot of concentration on my part to get it to group well. It's accurate, but definitely more hold sensitive than my Air Arms which is probably the softest and sweetest of the lot. And that's after I kitted all of the above rifles too. All the HWs suffered from a sharp recoil and very harsh vibration from the factory. As for the triggers, well the Air Arms CD trigger is the best by far unless you count my vintage Feinwekbau 300S and LP80. The Rekord trigger is great, but you can't get it as light as the CD trigger. The Rekords all come up against a hard wall and break like glass, but I personally prefer a trigger that's a little softer, because I have a habit of jerking the trigger that I can't shake. I find it more difficult to know when the trigger will break with a Rekord. But that doesn't explain how the HW35 shoots pellet on pellet at 25M for me, but I get constant fliers with the 97. I know it isn't pellets or anything wrong with the gun, because I can feel when it's happened, I can tell it didn't like my hold. To me it's the most springer-ish springer I own.

What a great review! I agree with every single point you've made. Weight is my only concern, but not because I think is heavy (balance is more important than the actual weight). Is more down to my back problems. Every two weeks I see my self in front of the computer about to hit the confirmation button. This video might help me take that decision at last! It's either that or going down the pcp route, with a tank or a compressor, the limited power suply if you're in the woods... Flyers are quite often caused by a defective pellet so don't be so hard on you. New suscriber.
@TheWeaponizedHippie
@TheWeaponizedHippie Год назад
Thank you Luis. Yes, there's no doubt that weight is a consideration with this rifle. If I were to use it for hunting I would have to fit a sling for sure. As you rightly say, pcp has many benefits for hunting, but the convenience of a self contained springer unit is clear. As for my flyers - I find JSB ammunition to be so good that I really have to admit my flyers are definitely down to me!

@TheWeaponizedHippie You are very welcome, my friend. You reviewed a fantastic piece of kit and gave it respect it deserves. Again, Sir, in my humble, the cocking underlever of the TX200 is quite alot shorter than the underlever of the Pro Sport and I personally prefer that. However, personally, I think they're both gorgeous air rifles. Their blueing and fishscale chequering to me is knee trembling. I've never held a Pro Sport, but that said, I have a few air rifles and would rather shoot fewer well than a lot poorly, if that makes sense? So at the moment, my friend, I'm holding off buying a Pro Sport. Anchors and chains around my body, lol. Best wishes.

Hi Drew, Allthough I have been brought up with shotguns and springer air rifles and have as long as I can remember loved guns and shooting I have not shot an air rifle seriously for many years. I have just been given my friend's who sadly passed away, his .22 Wiehrauch HW77 so I have applied to join my nearest gun club. I only intend to shoot the rifle at paper targets in the club range. The rifle is fitted with cheap scope but obviously it must work as it has been used mainly for shooting rabbits. The rifle is very heavy and loud and I think was manufactured in the 1970s but feels like a real quality gun. Your video has inspired me to stick with this rifle and see if I can shoot well with it even though I'm 75 years young I am really looking forward to shooting again. Thanks for your no BS approach and I have subscribed so looking forward to more videos. Thanks again.

I love this video! Thank you so much for sharing! I bought this gun two weeks ago, after deciding to get back into air rifle shooting after some years. I taught my sons gun respect, safety and how to shoot on my 1973 14th Birthday present, my much-loved .22 Diana G79 break-barrel. I wanted a new, up-to-date springer rifle and I had a decent budget because I wanted a keeper, an heirloom, to leave for my sons. I did loads of research and my final choice was the Air Arms TX 200 or the carbine version. I found a good local airgun shop and went for a look, but was captivated by the Pro Sport, an atypical impulse purchase for me and above my budget 😱 I asked the shop to order me a .22 version which arrived soon after. I collected it, started shooting with it, found it challenging and unforgiving, but still gorgeous to use. And only THEN did I come across your YT channel and this video in particular and any buyer's remorse I may have had vanished. I particularly loved your description of it as an heirloom - exactly what I had been looking for! Also, your honest observation about how this rifle forces you to shoot with more care, discipline and practice; it's been SO motivating for me - and I thank you for sharing this with us all. Should I ever run into you somewhere, please let my buy you a pint!

I had one of these in .22 when they were first introduced and it was very accurate with Bisley Long Range Gold. When I say it was accurate I mean it. It could easily go head to head with any PCP and many times it did. I regret selling it as the newer ones are not the same in terms of shot cycle owing to a longer piston stroke. With that said no one can deny the level of fit and finish leaves nothing to be desired. These are a superbly built British made classic. Thanks for a great presentation.

Good review. I had a walnut Pro Sport and in many ways, it was the best air rifle I've ever owned. It was certainly the best looking and you're right. You can sense the quality when you pick it up or even just look at it. I put a delrin guide set in it and took the power down to around 10.6 ft lb (made it sweeter to shoot and I lost no distance to speak of - just needed an extra click on the elevation at 30 yards) and it was a tack driver. However, I just couldn't bond with it. I found the reach too short and the trigger blade too skinny (I have quite long hands). It never felt quite right. I tried a friend's HW95 and it just felt like an extension of my hands. The reach was perfect and I liked the broad, flat trigger blade. After much humming and hawwing, I sold the Pro Sport and got a 95 and later a 97. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I've recently discovered your channel and I love it. Watched this particular video more than a few times. I own a few pcp's (FX wildcat, Dreamline, AEA assassin, walther reign) and a few springers (Diana 340 n-tec, Gamo magnum pro gen 3i, Gamo magnum replay, Gamo bull whisper, hatsan carnivore - hatsan s*cks btw but the gamo's are excellent) - all in fac/full power. But I wanted a weihrauch as everybody is talking about their excellent quality. I decided to go for the HW100KT, and I can tell you I was NOT disappointed. The rifle is a dream to shoot. Now, about the trigger. As I am familiar with the FX trigger, I may be a bit spoiled. The FX triggers are the best I've ever had. Granted, the Weihrauch triggers are great, but the FX triggers are better. On another note, as you mentioned, pcp's can get tiresome and boring, and I just happened to see all the positive reviews on the HW97K, so I bought that one too. I am not disappointed and that's an understatement. It shoots sooo good if you know how to handle it. I always use the artillery hold for a springer, I'll never let it rest on a solid bench. That being said, I more often than not shoot standing up as I'm no target man, I want to know my guns as you would shoot them 'in real life' - when you need them in hunting. Anyway, the reason I write this, is because I found your channel and this video in particular after I just got the HW100 and HW97 - which were to be my final purchases. But the way you talk about that pro sport... Damn. Thanks for your honesty, no BS attitude and love for airguns. Keep up the excellent work!

Super Accurate, Awesome trigger. Great PCP, but I found it boring to shoot. Bag it up on a bench and will dang near one hole at 30 yards. I like the time I get to think and enjoy being outside while cocking and loading a springer. I can shoot 10 shots in the time I would normally shoot 2. Then there's bringing out the tank and refilling. To be honest I wish I had bought the Pro Sport now as I rarely shoot my PCP's.

I got the call and I went to pick up my new Pro Sport yesterday and it’s absolutely stunning and the pattern in the walnut is outstanding. By the time I got home with it and got a scope popped on I managed to get a few shots let off and I couldn’t believe just how smooth it shoots and the trigger is the best I’ve ever used and that’s saying something as I’ve always shot Weihrauch’s and have quite a few of them but this trigger unit is in my opinion is top notch. I only got it part zeroed as I was pushed for time but at about 35 yards I was hitting a bean can no problem at all but if I get time later today and weather permitting I’ll tweak everything up and get the groups nice and tight and a proper zero. But I’m so glad I’ve finally got what I call the pinnacle springer, I may be eating bread and water for the foreseeable future because these as you know aren’t cheap by any means but what a rifle and this one like yours will be with me for the rest of my days too.

I can just get it out just to appreciate it. Personally I love the weight it feels substantial and It’s a joy to own. And definitely worth the money. I had a pro sport for a short time before the TX200hc It was superb but i never liked the cocking lever thats the only reason I bought the HC. Plus Carbines just look better. Hi Drew, Thanks for your quick and informative response. Firstly after I sent my comments yesterday I quickly realized I’d I mis represented the group accuracy of my TX . Today I measured some recent groups I had shot and instead of my 1/4 , 1/8 “ that I stated , the groups were more in line with 3/8” to 1/2” and the odd 3/4 . That’s using multiple different pellets. JSB 8.44 , 4.52 heads are the most accurate in the TX. I did purchase a tin of Hades but haven’t put any down the barrel yet. I will be looking forward to giving them a try. I find your hold comparison comment between the TX and Pro Sport interesting. I am not a very good off hand shooter and try to take as much of myself out of the equation, meaning bench rest, front and back bag and use a very light hold. It seems to work pretty well with my other guns, not so well with the Pro yet. Today I tried Baracuda Match 15 and they were quite good. Ya hoo!, so me success! Hope it wasn’t a fluke. This is my first .22 . All my pellet purchases for the past 5 years have been .177 and have accumulated quite a variety which is of no help with this new gun. I’m starting from scratch but almost certain this gun will be a great shooter as it just Ozzes quality. Surprisingly the Walmart Crosman 14.3 pointed, 14.3 Hollow Points and 14.3 Piranha’s seem so far, to shoot better than the expensive stuff. I guess that’s a good thing. Would you consider you’re a Pro Sport very hold sensitive ? What part of the front stock is your hand on when you are free shooting? What scope do you have on your Pro Sport Drew? I took a Helix Elements 6x24x50 scope and mounts of my Tx to use on the Pro. Can’t quite afford to buy one for the new gun yet but I hopefully soon. I can’t afford the really high end scopes but hope eventually to purchase something that would complement the Pro. Any suggestions? Thanks Drew, Al

Hi brother I experimented for quite a while with different holds on my Pro Sport when I first got it... As you said, a very light hold on the bench was fairly successful, more of a 'supporting role' than a hold, but it just felt wrong to me due to not being able to replicate that hold offhand. So I pulled the stock into my shoulder (bench and offhand) and Eureka! It all came together. I know you'll agree that what works for one may not work for another - we all have our own distinctive biomechanics - but I was glad to find what worked for me. I almost shoot it like a .410 shotgun - regarding hold. With bench shooting I got my best results resting the fore-stock directly on the bag with no hand support, left arm crooked round and back providing vertical support under stock at shoulder. Trigger hand gently but decisively pulling stock into shoulder. No rear bag for me, I could never get consistency that way. Note: I've just realised that I should make a video on this very subject - it is not easy to describe effectively in the written word! *I do have a playlist of videos about offhand practise however: ru-vid.com/group/PLdrSDREa44Go6Ys3VLVbkgtpx_xodVnRj Scopes: I have to admit I use a very budget friendly Hawke 'Quick Mount' 3-12 x 50 AO on my Pro Sport, and a Hawke 'Quick Mount' 3-9 x 50 AO on my PCP rifle. I can reliably use the 3-12 at 50yds. The budget Hawke scopes are simply excellent - withstanding springer recoil with no worries (certainly sub 20fpe). I really don't have the funds for high end equipment. I only have the Pro Sport because a friend sold it to me used at half price...I got lucky. Let me know how you get on Drew

@@TheWeaponizedHippie Hi Drew, You explained your bench technique crystal clear. Thanks . Makes sense to me. Maybe I experiment a bit I always use back bag on my other with very soft hold, let the gun do it’s own thing. I did try the Hades, boom! Pretty tight groups ! That’s a bit of a relief. The Predator GTO Lead Free 11.75 were almost unbelievably accurate. but they are so light, may be susceptible to any cross wind . I did adjust the trigger weight bull , brought it down from about 24 oz to around a consistent 14 +- oz. Big difference there. The gun is such fun to shoot. Saving up now to purchase a decent quality scope to permanently mount on the Pro. I use one Hawke Airmax 6-26x50 for several different guns. I think it’s hard on the mount screws though, always tightening and loosening them when 8 change guns. The scope you use, Hawke 3-12x50 is a great choice. Unfortunately my eyes just can’t see much at 50 yds even on 12 power. Thanks for all you great tips Drew, Al

Good review, ok most reviews complain about the weight so I’ll address that. I’m a self confessed under lever nut! 1. Weight, it’s a spring piston rifle with recoil so weight actually helps. If you are carrying it round the farm for 8 hours add a few more ounces and fit a sling, I’ve got the HW97kt .122, HW97k .177, HW77k green laminate.177, TX200HC mk3 .177 walnut Pro Sport .177 walnut EVERY ONE HAS A SLING! They are all about the same weight. All under lever rifles are heavy 2. The pro sport under lever, I personally don’t have any issue with it. 3. Without a doubt the Pro Sport is the best looking springer bar none.

I bought my walnut .22 Pro Sport new about 8 years ago. After getting older and weaker, I decided to put a Vortek PG4 12 ft lb kit in it so that it would be easier to cock. With 15.89 JSB`s, it is getting 625 fps, which is more than enough for my squirrel hunting. I was lucky enough to get one of the spectacular walnut stocks and I`ve been using BLO on it maybe once a year. After maybe 300 shots, the Vortek kit got seated in and is producing one hole groups at the 15 yards that I shoot. My wife appreciates the fact that after the kit, the rifle got quieter also. If considering this rifle, one thing to consider is the fact that they are extremely simple to take apart and service. One other pellet that also will shoot one hole groups out of mine is the AA 18 grain. I don`t exactly know why, but the AA`s will outperform the same JSB pellet...go figure. They shoot 575 fps. For a scope, mine has one of the older Leupold 3-9x33 EFR`s which I leave on 6 power. I know this is a lot of money, but if you choose one of these rifles be sure to shoot it enough to fully break it in, and learn how to hold it. Don`t grab and squeeze it, hold it like you would your first baby. If you do that I guaranty that it will stay with you for years and years.

It's only worth the price if you are into springers. I really wanted a nice springer a couple of years ago but couldn't afford it and got an SMK cp2 - i haven't looked back, with only an additional hammer spring and a decent silencer it's lighter quieter and for me a fair bit more accurate than any springer. And of course it's a massive bargain compared to springer prices.

Hi, Really enjoyed your presentation, very informative , thank you. I recently purchased a beautiful like new Pro Sport.Previous owner put about 200 rounds through it , Unfortunately he had health issues and gun had to go. I think the gun Is of extremely high quality and remarkably smooth shooting. It is a piece of art. Bit a bit of a concern ; The gun so far has not come close to the accuracy you are getting from your gun. I have tested 11 different quality pellets but at 30 yards , from a bench, front and back bag, can’t seem to find the right pellet for the barrel ? Maybe I’m expecting to much from an almost new gun ? I cleaned the barrel using a patch worm. It wasn’t very dirty . I can’t help comparing it to my other 4 springers which all have Vortek tune kits installed. They include my TX 200, 20,000 rounds through that and basically at 30 yards, shoots 1/4 -1/8 “ holes with multiple pellets , a HW97, Beeman R9 , and a Diana 54 that are similarly unbelievably accurate. I don’t see the point of putting a Vortek drop in kit in this gun as it’s just a joy to shoot as it is. Perhaps it needs more rounds down the pipe? It doesn’t shoot loose fitting pellets very well. I’ve tried AA diabolos 18 gr and JSB, 14,3 but groups are not overly exciting. The best was with AA Field diabolos 16 gr , about 1” group. I guess I’ll just have to keep purchasing different pallets and experimenting and hoping I come across something that the bill really likes but it’s getting quite expensive. Would you have any specific pellet suggestions that I should try? Thanks again , Al

@TheWeaponizedHippie 11 месяцев назад
Hi there. Firstly, thank you. It surprises me that the barrel doesn't like the pellets you've been using, I can only relate my own experience really: I found JSB diabolos (any weight) to be 80 to 90% accurate, RWS Superfield and superdomes were around 80% accurate - but JSB Hades 95%+ accurate. All barrels are different so my results will differ from yours I guess, unfortunately. Have you tried Hades yet? If not, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I also found that when I dumped my bench rest shooting and concentrated on improving 'kneeling supported' offhand shooting - perversely my accuracy improved with this particular rifle. This tells me that I hadn't got my bench rest hold right for the rifle. Obviously this is just me but I found it interesting - and counter-intuitive! I also found that - for me - a TX200 required a different hold to a Pro Sport, strangely. But as I say, that's just for me personally, and many would disagree I'm sure. Let me know your experience with Hades if you wouldn't mind. Thank you. Drew

Just been watching your pro sport videos and I am at that point in my life now after shooting airguns for 45 years and always been a Weihrauch man for which I now have a few including the hw97 blue laminate in 22 which is an awesome rifle along with two 95k’s in 22 and 177 and my little grabber the 99s in 22. I do have a few pcp’s which are my main ratting guns and I will take a springer usually one of the 95’s when I’ve got on top of the infestation as to keep my eye in on using a springer as it’s always nice to go back to my roots using a springer. So I’ve decided to get a pro sport in as it’s the pinnacle of all springers and will be my last springer I’ll buy and one to be a proud owner of. But I’m a leftie and like always us lefties have to pay extra for the privilege and to me that’s wrong especially for what your forking out on the rifle so I hope that the woodwork will be top notch and some beautiful grain within it as I’m a stickler for an attractive grained stock and if it’s not to my liking I’ll be refusing to part with my hard earned cash, but that’s just me I maybe a fusspot but it’s just got to be right, 110% right. I have told them at the gun shop and they know me only to well by now as I’ve dealt with them for years and they always have sourced just what I’ve requested. So I’m just waiting now for the phone call to say it’s arrived and I can’t wait, I’ve opted to go for 177 as I’m really liking that calibre now after shooting 22 for most of my years of shooting and using the right pellet a 177 can have devastating effect with a well placed clinical shot.

@TheWeaponizedHippie
@TheWeaponizedHippie Год назад
I can't give an opinion on that I'm afraid - I've never owned or used one - but I'd say that if it's got Weihrauch written on it then it's likely to be great. Sorry I can't help on this one. Drew
@jimmynich4791
@jimmynich4791 Год назад
Everything is subjective but I don't think you could buy one of the cheap underlevers and make it in the same league as the Pro Sport, Tx200, Weihrauch 97K & 77, LGU no matter what you do. I read some comments about some cheaper springers being awesome but I think they really mean awesome for their price point.
@TheWeaponizedHippie
@TheWeaponizedHippie Год назад
Yeah I know what you mean. I have a cheap Remington springer which I really rate quite highly in handling, power consistency and accuracy - but a Pro Sport it will never be. It is - as you say - awesome for the price.

If they made this thing with a left-handed stock, I would buy one. I think they look great, but that cheek piece just makes it a no no.

HW97 is not at all like a Prosport. Out of the box it's a harsh buzzing nightmare to shoot. I can't speak on the Walthers but they are discontinued and hard to find. Air Arms make the best springer. There's no contest.

I'm not at all surprised to hear how good the engineering is, after all, Air Arms COPIED the Venom Mach 2 rifle! The Pro Sport was built using Venom engineering plans that an employee from a particular engineering firm in the UK STOLE, and handed to Air Arms. Ivan Hancock from Venom was in the early stages of taking legal action against AA, when the Dunblane massacre occurred. He decided that the sport of shooting in the UK had enough negative PR, so he dropped his case. The bloke who STOLE the Venom plans was sacked from the engineering company for breaching client confidentiality. The Pro-Sport is essentially a mass produced copy of the ultra-rare, handbuilt Venom Mach 2 rifle. I've recently been told that Ivan Hancock attended the AA stand at the NEC shooting fair event back in the 90's. AA had a Pro-Sport on display, when Ivan approached the stand, he told the AA staff, "I've come to see MY rifle!" AA very quickly removed the Pro Sport from display, and it didn't return for the remainder of the show. I have photographs of the Venom Mach 2, and the Pro-Sport is obviously a copy. AA even replicated the use of delrin bearings- which Venom pioneered.

This is such a shitty thing to know considering I love my air arms rifles. Companies need to be held accountable and give credit where credit is due.
@alarmactionukalarmactionuk893
Ken Turner first produced a stainless steel concealed underlever airrifle which he unveiled in 1982 at Basingstoke ARPC open competition to which the later AirArms ProSport is based and not at all a copy of the Venom Mach2 project. Incidently Ken a precision engineer by trade had a direct input in the Mach2 development by use of his machining talents.
