We are clearly being trolled hard here. Don't fall for it. Although I will admit Troy Glause does look eerily like a baseball playing Golden Retriever.
I mean one of your largest criteria was how well the baseball is presented and I gotta say, that was a solid double play on film. Every shot has reason and they all make sense. We see the fielders make a routine play and Air Bud steps on the bag. It's pure baseball.
They even took the effort to make sure we knew it was a double play by showing the runner sliding into second as well as running to second at the same time. I don't say this lightly when I say it's a masterpiece.
Actually, the runner they cut to is running to first. Had to watch it multiple times to be sure but you can see the catcher behind him, but I wouldn't have noticed unless I watched this video 5 times and paused the video. Thank you for having me watch this masterpiece of a scene like 10 times. This was clearly done with the greatest of love for the sport.
Thats the entire angle I thought this was going. When the video started audibly I went "a dog played first base om queue with catching the ball, what more needs to be said?"
There's no way to explain how astronomically prophetic Troy Glaus to alr BuD truly is. It was basically staring us in the face as a divine proclamation of events that would come to be. How can people think this a joke?
Bro I watched this with my dad and he thought your list was amazing until #1 he burst out laughing sooo hard he was choking and I was litteraly dying then he said “We wasted 1 hour and 9 minutes for AIR BUD" and I started crying of laughter best 1# movie ngl.
I was still working on seeing all the movies. After I saw Air Bud, the whole list changed. I thought it would've been obvious when I posted about Air Bud over 3 months ago on Reddit... www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/z83kja/what_at_bat_footage_did_they_use_in_air_bud_4/
@@BaseballsNotDead god, thanks for proving your channel isn't worth watching since you're either really committing to a stupid bit or you've convinced yourself that that play looked like a major league play based on some childhood bias towards the movie. I'm glad I watched with adblock.
After Bull Durham I was really scratching my head on what number 1 could be and then you dropped the “speaks for itself” nuke. And just started laughing. Also, the Ken Griffey Jr shot deserves it’s on place. Most beautiful swing in the history of baseball. To catch it down the line like that is magic.
The fact he took so long to tag the bag no way he woulda made the out. From the time air bud catches the ball and tags it was just bad. Big papi coulda beat it out.
Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch is one of the rare moments in sports where something blessed a team rather than curse it. Having two MVP caliber players isn't enough to get the Angels to the postseason, but the Air Bud Blessing got them a damn world series victory.
"Also, the Padres hitter changes skin color 3 times in 7 seconds." What a diverse and powerful movie, where even individual players are able to over come color and become human mood rings.
Gotta say, i didnt think you were joking about air bud being number 1, but i did feel a sense of blue balls from your other video. I watched an hour of detailed, interesting breakdowns of movies, and wanted to hear what you had to say about air bud. But then you cut off the video without breaking it down, basically removing the big finale moment. Left me somewhat disappointed, it was like doing a puzzle and right before you put in the last piece, your friend throws it in the garbage disposal. so actually thanks for making this breakdown cuz i wanted to see this lol
After watching the entire video the first time, it was clear to me why Air Bud was number one. There's a real audience reacting correctly with the right sounds, the play makes sense in context of the game, they're using a real ball (which is low enough for bud to catch) and the batter has the right sound effect. It was all leading up to this!
I'm still waiting for the sequel. He should have won a grammy. I know grammys are for music, but he should still have won one. He was a good boy. RIP. #believeallwomen #stopthesteal
I didn’t realize til watching the original video how Disney owning the Angels in the late 90s/early 00s led to the franchise being featured in as many baseball movies. Proximity to Hollywood helps too I reckon…
Hey... thanks again for pulling my leg. It had cramped up during the night's sleep and really needed to be stretched out. By the way, "Air Bud" was directed by the actor, Charles Martin Smith, who portrayed Terry the Toad in the classic film, "American Graffiti." Everyone should notice the George Lucas influence.. it's all through the film.
A couple of baseball movies, really old ones, that were off your list were "It Happens Every Spring" about a pitcher who invents a substance he can put on the baseball to make every pitch unhittable. The other was, "Fear Strikes Out" about Jimmy Piersall's struggle with mental health issues. That was a pretty good film featuring Tony Perkins (who it looks like never threw a ball or swung a bat in his life) and Karl Malden. Some scenes were filmed at Fenway and other scenes were filmed in what was supposed to be Fenway....but had PALM TREES over the outfield fence.
I love that when Air Bud touches first to win the world series the Angels outfielder is just standing there chilling in the outfield straight faced as if nothing special has happened lol
I think you might be on to something here. I have two personal favorites for baseball movies, "A League Of Their Own", and "The Sandlot". There are others like "The Rookie" with Dennis Quaid, or "Bull Durham" that get honorable mention's but for me those are the movies that made me want to play ball.
the fact that his videos are usually weeks apart and this came a mere 4 days after the original makes me wonder if he had this video premade, also, if people took it seriously and were angry, is there an alternate timeline version of this video? I NEED TO KNOW!
I honestly got a good chuckle at the reveal, lmao. I didn't think people would get mad at such a talented doggo. (personally not into the Air Bud films but I do like dogs, so. xD)
Another reason that makes this the #1 baseball movie is because Air Bud was also the Bo Jackson of baseball! He would later play football in the documentary film "The Golden Receiver"! (Surely also #1 on any realistic football movie lists.)
Something that most people don't give credit to Back to the Future Part II for getting the Cubs World Series correct because they think it was a year late, but that movie came out before the strike season when their wasn't one, so it was still the same World Series technically since it predicted they would win in 2015, but the Strike pushed every World Series after that back by a year, so it still represent the same one sequentially as they didn't predict the strike but the World Series was still at the same number played in total at the 112th. So they did predict who would win the 112th World Series correctly, it was a year later though.
Wait…are you telling mean that no one else saw that? I mean it was the same year! FYI Air Bud Returns releases in April ‘23, co-staring Trout and Ohtani co-MVP’s and Cy Young… winning it all against the Dodgers, sweeping the Trashtros in 4 for the AL pennant. You heard it here first!
I've been an Alan Trammell fan since 1989, and I did not know he had a cameo in this movie, until this fantastic breakdown. I also thought Air Bud being #1 was a joke, and I was wrong, but in our defense, you didn't give any legit commentary in the first video for why it was #1. Thank you for this explanation.
This is completely off topic and i don't know if you will even see this, but there's an anime called Ace of the Diamond and it is legitimately amazing in terms of going in depth with high school baseball and the storyline is fantastic. If you've never heard of it, it is def worth a watch and what kickstarted my fascination with baseball
To add to this, there’s another great baseball anime, although a little more story focused then ace of diamond, it is called Major and while it is more fictitious, it still does a decent job representing baseball!
How did you miss the stupidity of Brendan Fraser's character in "The Scout" not only making his ML debut in Game One of the World Series but also BATTING FOR HIMSELF despite the game being at Yankee Stadium?
A dog playing first base in the World Series is the best baseball movie of all time? Literally would break the dogs jaw with every throw to first base and would chase the ball after every throw / hit ball. Ahhh baseball at its purest.
I mean it was in the title of the video that he’s ranking them by how well the actors play baseball. Real HOFers play baseball pretty well last time I checked
