I have been using air brushes on models for well over 40 years now, and I must say that this short video of yours was very well done. Your explanations of the problems and the solutions were well done. Keep up the great work my friend, and I am looking forwards to more model videos from you. :-)

if you are new to airbrushing i highly recommend vallejo's line of paints that are pre-diluted and ready for airbrush from the bottle, it can save lots of time too

So you're okay with paying a premium for watered-down paint? 🤔

@@Chilly_Billy if you are new to air brushing yes. But if you’re more experienced then Tamiya is the way to go.

After trying for literally years to get a good feathered edge for camo patterns (German WW2 and Russian middle east, Yom kipper war etc) the clay is the way to go, for me.. even with an Iwata, lowering the pressure, thinning the paint etc. it still makes spatters where you don;t want them to. So you have to go back and retouch, either with a brush (usually defeating the purpose) or the airbrush again, which of course, just makes more different colored spatters... where you dont want em... With the clay you can still ge a good feathered edge, just mold the top part out a little over so yu make a "shelf" and spray from directly above, not the side (so you don;t make too sharp an edge) the r esults are very pleasing and - no do-overs.

do a practical "how to thin paint" showing exactly how its done
@AirsoftAddicted
@AirsoftAddicted 6 лет назад
It's very easy. Take two small glass containers, put milk in one of them and paint to another, than add thinner to paint and compare both containers - the paint is ready for airbrushing when both, milk and the paint have the same consistency. Works every time.

Very nice. I'll pass along something that I tried just today. I was having a problem I could not resolve. it was either clogging or dry tip and no matter how tried to clean the brush and tip I could not get it to function properly. Pulling things apart right down to the spring and needle it all looked clean there was no obvious reason. Finally, I threw all the parts in an ultrasonic cleaner with the brush for a half-hour using just soap and water. When done all was working as new.
@Shadows_Inc
@Shadows_Inc 4 года назад
You can thin acrylic paint (Tamiya paint) with water just fine, just add a drop of dish soap, it will prevent the paint from collecting and thin everything out. 1:1 paint and water with a drop of dish soap works great.

Hey David, I found this video really useful as I'm getting an airbrush in the mail soon. I have a question that you may not be able to answer but I think you're my best chance. If I'm spraying a coat of gloss or Matt varnish, does it need to still be thinned? Cheers, Archie

Hello David, I must say you have published some of the better "tips&tricks" videos I've found here on RU-vid. I have a question about paints: in this video you use Tamiya acrylics, are the tips from this video applicable to all the others kind of paints? I mean Lacquers (like Gunze) and enamels (like Humbrol or Model Master)?
@idaemonplasmo
@idaemonplasmo 7 лет назад
No, but is same. It does not depend if you use Humbrol, Gunze our Tamiya. Everything is about thinner and pressure.
@PreppoAntani
@PreppoAntani 7 лет назад
Thanks for the reply David. I know that everything is about paint/thinner ratio and pressure. I've found interesting how you check if the paint is correctly thinned. My question was about this: do you think is possible to check if the paint is thinned correctly in the same way you do in the video also using other kind of paints?
@idaemonplasmo
@idaemonplasmo 7 лет назад
yes, of course, you can. In principle, are all colors same

I pre-thin a jar of Tamiya paint and have another of the same colour as standard, I thin the paint as per Andy Klein from Andy's Hobby Headquarters, and it work great, I am currently working on a Tamiya 1/48th FW-190, best regards from Australia.

Ahoj Dávid. Obdivujem tvoje skilly a musím povedať, že veľmi mi tvoje videá pomáhajú. Snáď nenájdem jedno, z ktorého by som si niečo pre seba do budúcnosti nevzal, preto prosím ťa vydrž a rob naďalej to čo robíš. Je to úžasné! Zaujímalo by ma, ako postupuješ pri miešaní farieb v určitom pomere. V tvojich videách step by step, i vo všeobecnosti v návodoch, sa často miešajú farby v istom pomere aby vznikla výsledná napr. kamuflážna farba. Oliver
